MicroSD Card I/O device error, recovery options?

Diffuser wrote:

I have an SD card that still opens up correctly and I can see the file directory, but when I copy, it stops partway through with the error message "ERROR " and "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I've tried copying using WinRoboCopy as well as trying to copy the image using Win32DiskImager and get the I/O error message for both.

I've also tested two different SD card readers and get the errors.

Any suggestions on my best course of action? I am looking at data recovery software, but not sure which to use.

Thanks!

Might I clarify that were you talking about:

  1. a SD card had those error when it was read by a card reader, or
  2. a micro SD card, inserted into a SD card adapter and when it was read by a card reader to have those error?

For the later case, might try another SD card adapter since these adapters, no matter what brand they would be, not always reliable. Also a poor contact of the micro SD and the adapter would also cause problem. Re-sit the micro SD card sometimes would be alright.

Wish the previous read attempt hadn't corrupt your original information which would need recovery software for the job.
