Vb6 runtime error 53

vb6 runtime error 53

Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error `53' · I had the same problem, and found that it was due to incompatible Adobe Add-in "linkCreation.dotm". Suddenly, whenever I open an Excel or Power Point document, I get an annoying pop-up message about "Visual Basic for Applications" and "run. Following this, Excel (Microsoft Visual Basic) should provide me with a message saying "Your order has been submitted by email. Thank you.".

If you have custom DLLs created in VB 6 or VB 5, you might get error 53 (file not found) in the declare statement itself.

Private Declare Function fDLLFunction Lib "C:\My Documents\DLLs\SomeDLL.DLL" _
(Byval strParam1 as string, lngParam2 as Long) as long

This is caused by a missing Dependency file (runtime files) on your machine that's required by the DLL. The error message "File Not Found" is not being generated by the DLL file itself, but Access since it cannot locate the other required DLLs.

To find out if the DLL has any dependencies, you can use one of these two methods.

  1. Download Dependency Walker  Search your hard drive for any dependent files and make sure they exist and are registered.
  2. Use Windows NT's QuickView utility to view the DLL's Import Table.   All dependent files should be listed here.  Note that Windows 95 and 98 versions of the QuickView utility do not allow you to view this information.

Hi Franky,

Could you provide a screenshot of your Word client version number?

Besides, you can refer to methylation's solution in this thread File not found error 53 on every startup and quit of MS Word for Mac 2011, 14.6.6.

I had the same problem, and found that it was due to incompatible Adobe Add-in "linkCreation.dotm".

It is located at:

~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word

Once you remove the file and re-start Word, no more errors.

"

James

If you don't have any Autorun macros that you know of, then you should replace your Normal template, as it would seem to hold a macro that is trying to execute constantly.

How do I resolve runtime error 53, File Not Found?

I've a project that I didn't write and am making modifications to it, but am getting Error 53, File Not Found.

If I run the project from within Visual Basic, there is no error, but when I compile the executable and run that, is when I see error 53.

Can someone tell me the best way to go about troubleshooting this? If the error was happening inside Visual Basic, then I could use debugging tools, but it's only occurring with the compiled executable, and I have no idea what file cannot be found.

I just went through the entire form (where I believe this error is happening) and added the application path to every command where a file is being called, but still receive error 53 when running the compiled executable.

EDIT: I was able to locate the file that can't be found. I can see the file is in the project directory, but cannot be found after the executable is built. Is there a special way of opening, or referring to this file?
