FAQ: Error Messages

In a popup dialog, I get "Error: The device is not ready"

This error occurs if a drive µTorrent is trying to access does not exist, or is missing. This most frequently occurs if a drive letter has changed, or if the data µTorrent was looking for was located in a removable drive that is no longer in the computer. To resolve the issue, make sure the paths µTorrent is trying to use are all existent, utorrent error read-o. This means that all torrent jobs should not have their Save As field set to a directory on some non-existent drive letter. The same thing applies to the Directories preferences.

If a torrent job is using a drive letter that no longer exists, make sure you set the download location for the job.

In the Logger tab, I get "Error opening Windows Firewall"

This means that µTorrent was unable to add itself as an exception to the Windows Firewall using the standard Windows Firewall API. This occurs when Windows Firewall is disabled or not present, or that you are using an operating system that does not support the API (operating systems older than Windows XP SP2). The error is non-fatal, and can be safely ignored, utorrent error read-o. If you want µTorrent to stop trying to add itself to the firewall exceptions list every time it starts, then you can disable the Add µTorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions option in the Preferences. If another firewall is present, you will still need to configure utorrent error read-o properly to allow µTorrent to utorrent error read-o the Internet.

In the Logger tab, I get "NAT-PMP: Unable to map port with NAT-PMP"

This means that µTorrent was unable to map (forward) the port with NAT-PMP. If you have a green status light in the status bar, or the Setup Guide's port checker verifies that the port is open, then you can safely ignore this error. If otherwise, utorrent error read-o, you'll need to manually forward the port in your router. If you want µTorrent to stop trying to map its listening port via NAT-PMP every time it starts, then you can disable the Enable NAT-PMP port mapping option in the Preferences.

In the Logger tab, I get "UPnP: Unable to map UPnP port"

This means that µTorrent was unable to map (forward) the port with UPnP. If you have a green status light in the status bar, or the Setup Guide's port checker verifies that the port is open, utorrent error read-o, then you can safely ignore this error. If otherwise, you'll need to manually forward the port in your router. If you utorrent error read-o µTorrent to stop trying to map its listening port via UPnP every time it starts, then you can disable the Enable UPnP port mapping option in the Preferences.

In the status bar, I get "Disk Overloaded"

This means that the disk was not able to keep up with the read/write speeds, utorrent error read-o. To utorrent error read-o this, you should try tweaking your Disk Cache settings in the Preferences. Note that disk overloads may also occur if the device you are writing to or reading from is inherently slow by design (USB hard drives, for example). In such cases, tweaking the cache settings may help, but it isn't guaranteed to work.

If you get this error message when you add a new torrent job, consider utorrent error read-o normal due to a design limitation in µTorrent (which should be fixed in the future). You can ignore the message, as it does not actually indicate any real disk overload. The message will disappear after a short amount of time.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error:"

This means that an error occurred the last time µTorrent was run. Since µTorrent does not remember error messages, no error is specified. Try resuming the torrent job, or forcing a re-check to see if any error occurs again.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: Access Denied" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

Make sure you are not using a misconfigured incompatible software that can cause file access issues. If you are not, then make utorrent error read-o you have the right credentials to be using the target file and/or (containing) directory.

On some systems, Windows Explorer may attempt to preview media files when you are browsing the containing directory for the files. If this happens while µTorrent is attempting to write to the file, then µTorrent won't be able to access the file, and accordingly, it will throw this error message. To prevent this from happening, make sure you don't view the folder in "Thumbnail" or "Filmstrip" mode. Additionally, you may want to consider unregistering the shell media file property extractor in Windows by visiting "Start" > "Run" (or by pressing Windows+R on the keyboard), utorrent error read-o, typing regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll into the "Open" field, and pressing "OK."

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

This error is not an error generated by µTorrent, but rather, an error it receives from the hard drive. The error indicates that the hard drive was unable to read or write the data because the sectors are faulty, or are about to die. Cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors are often signs of possible future disk corruption. Running chkdsk might help fix the problem, but stronger recovery tools (such as SpinRite) may be required (assuming the disk is at all repairable).

In the torrent job status, utorrent error read-o, I get "Error: Element not utorrent error read-o and µTorrent halts the torrent job

This error may occur when you remove or rename files from a torrent job. If this is the case, try to re-add or rename the files back, or force a re-check on the torrent job.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: The requested operation could not be completed due to a file system limitation" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

This error occurs because of a problem with the way Windows Vista handles sparse files and NTFS compressed. When a sparse or compressed file reaches this (currently unspecified) limitation, all writes to the file will fail. The utorrent error read-o way around this is to make a copy of the file, delete the existing (sparse/compressed) file, and replace the deleted file with the copy. It is recommended that you disable diskio.sparse_files if you are running Windows Vista. If you would like µTorrent to not fully allocate a file upon write while using Windows Vista, use bt.compact_allocation instead.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: Not enough free space on disk" when I have more than enough free space

This error occurs only on drives or partitions formatted to FAT32 because files greater than 4 GiB cannot be created on FAT32 partitions. The only fix is to convert the drive or partition to NTFS, or use another drive or partition that is already using NTFS.

To convert a drive to NTFS, read Microsoft's knowledge base article KB307881.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: Parameter is incorrect" when selectively downloading

The cause of the error message is currently unknown, though it is being looked into. There is no workaround apart from not using selective file downloading on these operating systems if you receive the error. The error should not happen again if you simply resume the torrent job.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

See the question regarding Error: Access Denied.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

Make sure utorrent error read-o are not using a misconfigured incompatible software that can cause file access issues.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: The system cannot find the path specified" and µTorrent halts the torrent job

This problem may be caused by a limitation in Windows with path lengths. Windows limits the maximum path length (including filenames) to 255 characters. Try utorrent error read-o the torrent contents to a location closer to the drive's root, such as C:\Downloads\.

In the torrent job status, I get "Error: Unable to save the resume file"

See the question regarding Error: Access Denied. If that isn't relevant or doesn't help, make sure the directory µTorrent is using as its settings directory exists.

In the tracker status, I get "A socket operation encountered a dead network"

Check to make sure you don't have an incompatible software installed. Previous reports on this error message indicate that BitDefender Firewall can cause such issues. There is utorrent error read-o known way to fix the issue other than to uninstall the firewall (and replace it with another one if necessary).

If you are not using any software firewall, make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your network card, since this problem may well be caused by buggy drivers. It may also occur if your network gets physically disconnected (like if the network cable is disconnected, or if your modem or router shuts off).

In the tracker status, I get "An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full" and µTorrent halts

Check to make sure you don't have an incompatible software installed. Previous reports on this error message indicate that Norton GoBack can cause such issues. Updating the application or uninstalling it entirely should solve the problem.

There is a Windows Registry entry in Windows 2000/XP/2003 that can cause this error. Read Microsoft's knowledge base article KB196271 for further details.

This error can also be utorrent error read-o symptom of improper configuration. Check this FAQ entry regarding interrupted connections, as the suggestions may solve this problem.

In the tracker status, I get "Connection closed by peer"

In general, utorrent error read-o, this error has manifested itself in cases where the user's ISP is interfering with BitTorrent tracker communication. Consult the Bad ISPs list on AzureusWiki to check if your ISP is known to interfere with BitTorrent traffic.

Error access is denied (Write to disk) uTorrent in Windows 10

BitTorrent is a communications protocol of peer-to-peer file sharing which utorrent error read-o very popular among internet users. Its main benefit is high speed of data transfer, since the file is being downloaded not from one server, utorrent error read-o, but from multiple computers and every user, utorrent error read-o, who has already downloaded the file. One of the most popular BitTottent clients (a program to download\upload p2p files) is uTorrent, however multiple Windows 10 users lately report many issues with this program due to changes in Windows 10 security settings. One of the most annoying issues is “Error access is denied (Write to disk)” message while trying to download a file using uTorrent.

You can find users complaining about this error message on multiple forums, though on every forum you can find a simple answer – just run UTorrent as administrator and download will start.

Well, that’s true, the problem will be solver for this time, however when you try to download another file by double utorrent error read-o on torrent file you will get another error message.

It seems like uTorrent is already running but not responding in Windows 10.

The workaround is simple – you can add the torrent file to the client manually.

It’s not as convenient as a simple double click on the file, utorrent error read-o, but still helps.

For me these workarounds are very doubtful and inconvenient, since every time I forget to run uTorrent as administrator and I’m too lazy to add a torrent file manually since I have to find it in my crowded Downloads folder. As it turns out it takes only 5 minutes to fix these problems once and for always.

How utorrent error read-o fix?

To fix the problem you need to make uTorrent run “as administrator” by default at all times. But that’s not all, there is one extra step you need to take.

Hit Windows button and start typing uTorrent.

Right click on the icon and choose Open file location.

Right click on the uTorrent icon in the opened folder and go to properties.

In properties, navigate to Compatibility tab, utorrent error read-o, set “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows XP Service Pack 3” in the dropdown menu.

Scroll lower and put the checkmark next to “Run this program as Administrator.”

In other words, make sure you have everything like on the screenshot below.

Now hit Apply and Ok button and go utorrent error read-o to the uTorrent icon. Right click on it again and click on Open file location.

Find uTorrent.exe file, right click on it and choose Properties again.

Navigate to Compatibility tab again.

Repeat the changes like we did with icon and save them.

You might think that doing changes to exe file is enough and the step with changing the icon can be skipped, but it turned out that we need to change both – exe file and icon, since the application is launched by Windows 10 in different ways.

Now, double click on uTorrent icon and you will see that everything is working now.

We hope that these simple steps utorrent error read-o help you, but if you need any additional assistance with this or any other computer related issue feel free to contact our User Support department to get immediate remote help.

[Fixed] uTorrent Error the System Cannot Find the Path Specified [Partition Manager]

A great many users encounter the “uTorrent error the system cannot find the path” issue while downloading a file. What causes the uTorrent system cannot find the path error? How to fix it? Now, let’s explore the answers together with MiniTool.

uTorrent is a proprietary adware BitTorrent client and it is very popular among users. It can help users download and share large files like movies, games, videos, utorrent error read-o, and so on within a few clicks. However, this client may run into some issues like uTorrent disk overloaded, uTorrent not downloading, and the one discussed here.

According to user reports, the “uTorrent error the system cannot find the path” message often occurs while downloading a file or sharing files with peers. The error can be caused by different reasons, including overlength file path, dots, and spaces, incorrectly downloaded torrent files, read-only destination folder, drive letter changes, utorrent error read-o, and even uTorrent versions.

Torrent starts downloading for a few sec. then I get this error "Error: The system cannot find the path specified. (WriteToDisk)". I use Windows 10, uTorrent 3.3. Tried running as administrator, changing download directories, changing folder security properties. Nothing helped. Can anybody suggest a solution?https://forum.utorrent.com/topic/83634-error-the-system-can-not-find-the-path-specified-writetodisk/
uTorrent the system cannot find the path specified

Fix 1. Restart uTorrent

The most straightforward fix is to restart your uTorrent client. To do so, utorrent error read-o, you can close the uTorrent process in Task Manager completely and relaunch it.

Step 1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at the same time to open the Task Manager window.

Step 2. In the Processes tab, right-click the uTorrent process and select End task. After that, you can relaunch the client and re-downloading the torrent file to see if the utorrent error read-o message still appears.

end uTorrent in Task Manager

Fix 2. Check the File Path

One of the most common reasons behind the uTorrent the system cannot find the path specified error is the overlength file path. Windows has a limitation of 256 characters for the file path. So, make sure that the file name and the download location of your torrent file don’t exceed 256 characters. Here you can download the torrent file to a root directory on your hard drive or use a shorter name for utorrent error read-o file.

Note: The file path includes both the name of the torrent file and the location of the download folder.

Fix 3. Check for Dot Characters and Spaces

Some users reported that the program utorrent error read-o a dot or a space at the end or beginning of a folder of a torrent file every time they add a torrent. To fix the system cannot find the file specified uTorrent error, check if there are any dots or spaces before or after the folder or file name. Then remove them and see if the error gets fixed

Note: The space characters can be added to the end of the destination folder as well. So, make sure that you check the file path for any unexpected dots and space characters.

Fix 4. Check the Destination Folder

If the destination folder you store the torrent file in is set to read-only, you may encounter the “uTorrent error the system cannot find the path” issue when making some changes. So, we recommend you check the destination folder’s properties.

Step 1. Press Ctrl + E keys to open the File Explorer window, and then navigate to the destination folder, right-click it, and select Properties.

Step 2. In the pop-up window, navigate to the Attributes section and untick the checkbox for Read-only.

Step 3. Click on Apply and OK to save the change.

untick the checkbox for Read only

Fix 5. Delete the Torrent File and All Other Related Files

It has been proven that deleting all files associated with that torrent can fix the uTorrent the system cannot find the path specified error. This is because the error can be caused by incorrectly downloaded torrent files.

Here you should delete these files: the torrent file itself, the torrent file registry from uTorrent, and the partly-downloaded file. Open your uTorrent client, and then right-click the affected torrent file and select Remove And > Delete .torrent + Data. After you delete all these files, you can start the download again and check if the “uTorrent system cannot find path” error is fixed.

delete torrent file

Fix 6. Set the Download Path Manually

Some users reported that they fixed the “uTorrent cannot find the path specified write to disk” error by setting the download path for each individual torrent file manually. Let’s have a try.

Step 1. Open the uTorrent client again.

Step 2. Right-click the affected torrent file and select Advanced > Set Download Location.

Step 3. Select the folder into which you want to download the torrent file and click on OK. Then repeat this process for all other affected torrents.

Alternatively, you can set a new download location for all torrents by following the steps below:

Step 1. In the main interface of uTorrent, select Options > Preferences from the upper left corner.

select Preferences in uTorrent

Step 2, utorrent error read-o. In the pop-up window, go to the Directories tab from the left panel, tick the checkbox for Put new downloadsin. Then click on the Three-dot icon to select your desired directory.

set a new directory for all torrent files

Step 3. Click on Apply and OK to save the changes.

Fix 7. Check for the Derive Letter Changes

Sometimes the drive letter could change in the destination path, utorrent error read-o. If the drive letter is changed to a nonexistent drive letter, you won’t be able to save the torrent to that location. To avoid the uTorrent error system cannot find the path, make sure the destination path is located in an existent drive letter.

Fix 8, utorrent error read-o. Revert to the Earlier uTorrent Version

If none of the above methods fix the uTorrent system cannot find the path error, you can try reverting to the earlier version of uTorrent. For example, if you utorrent error read-o using uTorrent 3.5.5, you can go to Google and search for uTorrent 3.5.1 or 3.5.3, and install the version. Then you can download the torrent again and see if the error gets fixed.

The recorder shows that I get a ReadFile error on I/O error, especially when I force check some files when moving their folder from one folder to another, they worked fine when moved, maybe they were in the original folder.< / p>

I have looked into these errors a bit and checked for errors on my hard drive, WinVista Check Disk says there are no errors on this hard drive and I am not using any external files to store the torrent files that exist in the added tasks Torrent (which is why I keep things that are no longer ordered in utorrent).

I didn’t modify these computers at all as I know I should have saved them as they could get full delphi xml parseerror a particular file would not retain its integrity by putting it almost entirely on my MP3 player, utorrent error read-o. could write it now or put some overhead on some other data integrity. One last thing I might add if I think while I was peeping some files on many of these torrents I am getting a “this is in use by another process” error so I am now pressing CV on these guys hopefully that the callback specific would be somewhere else (not sure what the exact error is, but clicking on the app has always worked for me).

It’s my fault that I bought Opera 9 and it broke!

On uTorrent Mac, stable and beta, it never stops until I stop.

On reboot, it will check and show the correct part again, but there will be a read file error in the log. it says,

I get the following error when executingLoading the big file I just skipped:

Also, in beta 3.2, a brand new feature says “empty buffer” and capturing forever?

But since there is a wonderful error message about the recorder, everything is fine in it

You can remove the Sygate firewall type for Winsock issues.”

I’m deleting files and almost certainly not setting the download status to “Loading”. I then insist on re-checking, utorrent error read-o. Shouldn’t this be okay?

Can I try out your new sorry firewall together? I like this great one.

I don’t know if I signedAm I on you. If you want to remove all versions of torrents with the same name, then I have no problem, I rarely come across torrents with utorrent error read-o names, utorrent error read-o.

And again. What confuses me is that at some point the entire data transfer went fine and could be read by whatever this one opens the file. Then after checking the hash or whatever utorrent does to read it, the results suddenly become non-existent?

Well actually I am now trying to get all the old data back so that I can boot Windows without errors and now I boot with the new firewall (which I have always been suspicious of). If anyone has any new suggestions, I will spend several days and nights here until everything is safe. Thanks again for the replies!

The steps below will show you step-by-step on how you can restart uTorrent safely:

  1. On your computer, press on CTRL + ALT + DEL and click on Task Manager from the selection menu.
  2. After that, find the uTorrent client from the applications running on your computer.
  3. Lastly, click the uTorrent client and hit the End Task button to close the program.

After that, go back to your Desktop and run the uTorrent client normally to see if the uTorrent “Access is Denied” error would still occur.

2. Run uTorrent as an Administrator.

Another common reason for uTorrent to throw the “Access is Denied” error is that if it can’t access the set download folder on your computer due to lack of privileges.

To bypass this permission issue on your operating system, you can try running uTorrent as an administrator to grant it full access to your system.

Follow the steps below to guide you through the process:

  1. On your computer, go to the Desktop and find uTorrent from the list of programs installed on your system.
  2. After that, right-click on theuTorrent and select Run as Admin.

  1. Lastly, click on the Yes button when the confirmation pop-up appears.

Now, try to download the file that you are having issues downloading to see if the “Access is Denied” error is already fixed.

On the other hand, if the issue still occurs on your computer, you can try checking the permission settings of the Downloads folder.

3. Make Sure Downloads Folder Is Not Set to ‘Read-only’.

If the ‘Downloads’ folder used by uTorrent premiere cs4 ac3 generic error set as ‘Read-only’, then the program would not be able to download files on that folder since the write function is disabled.

To fix this, you can check the folder’s settings and make sure that the ‘Read-only’ option is disabled.

You can check the steps below to walk you through the procedure:

However, if the error message still appears while downloading files on uTorrent, you can try doing the next method below.

5, utorrent error read-o. Disable Third-Party Antivirus Software.

Antivirus software is a great way to protect your computer from malware and viruses.

However, utorrent error read-o, such software is known to flag torrent activities on your computer as a threat and block any access from the uTorrent client. This can cause the “Access is Denied” error on your computer as the uTorrent client cannot access the folders on your computer to download the files.

To fix this, you can temporarily disable any third-party antivirus software that you have installed on your computer whenever you are downloading files using the uTorrent client. After you’ve disabled the third-party antivirus software, try to re-download the file (Method 4) and see if this fixes the problem.

On the other hand, you can also permanently uninstall the third-party antivirus software on your computer and instead opt for the built-in Windows Defender which also works well in preventing malware and other viruses from infecting your computer. It’s worth mentioning that, if you do have Windows Defender running in the background, then try to disable it temporarily and then restart uTorrent to see if the issue gets resolved.

6. Delete Update Files.

If the uTorrent app does not function normally, it is possible that some of its files got corrupted during an update or the actual update was not installed properly on your computer.

In this case, you can try manually deleting the update files on your hard drive to revert back to the previous working version of uTorrent.

Follow the steps below to guide you through the process:

  1. On your computer, press on the Windows Key + R to launch theRun Command Box.
  2. After that, type %appdata% and hit Enter to open the AppData Folder.

uTorrent Access is Denied Error

  1. Next, utorrent error read-o, open the uTorrentfolder and scroll down to find the Updates.DAT file.

In some cases, your system may show an error saying that the torrent failed to write to disk, there is no space on the device. There can be several reasons for this problem.

I also have this problem with a torrent located on a good Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive. “Insufficient disk space on the device” occurred after a rescan, which some chose not to perform for reasons, while others tried to download again.

In addition, the number of torrents is now 479,339, down from 3,000.

UTorrent memory overflow error occurs after the access speed reaches a certain threshold. In most cases, the error lasts for about a minute (during which the download stops) before returning to normal. However, in most cases, the error recurs after about a few minutes.

In this case, one way to ensure that a crisis does not occur is to maintain an environment menu when submitting an extended prerequisite form.

Remember that recent versions of utorrent are much more disk space efficient because they no longer create single-threaded I/O. If this scenario is likely applicable, you are indeed running an older version of utorrent, remove the installation you find and install the latest version available.

This issue has been fixed in newer versions, but if someone doesn’t want to upgrade, you can definitely work around this issue by going to advanced options and setting diskio.use_partfile to false.
