    I am using VB 6, ADO, and SQL 7 in a multiuser environment for the project I am currently working on. I have encountered a problem with this Error and could use some help.

    I am using an ADO recordset's .Update event to write data to the database. The problem occurs when two users happen to edit the same record simultaneously. When the second user tries to update a recordset after the first user has already updated it, I get the SQL error message "Row cannot sql 3219 error located for updating. Some values may have been changed since it was last read". My procedure for saving the record is exited and the next command I issue is to requery the database to update everything. That sql 3219 error when I get the error message. Anything I try to do to the recordset at this point (close, requery, resync, etc)
    gives me the same error message. The only way I can resume my program is to reopen the recordset. I would appreciate any suggestions, explanations, or solutions for this error.
    See below for a portion of the code.

    Thanks for any and all help provided.

    The portion of my code that creates this error is as follows:

    (mrsEmployee is a module level ADODB recordset variable that is opened on Form Load and Closed on Form Unload)
    With mrsEmployee
    !EmpID = txtEmpID
    !LName = txtLName
    !FName = txtFName
    !MName = txtMName
    !Suffix = txtSuffix
    !BirthDate = Date2Field(mskBirthDate)
    !SSNum = mskSSNum
    !DriversLic = txtDriversLic
    !DateEmployed = Date2Field(mskDateEmployed)
    !PerDiemRate = Val(txtPerDiemRate)
    !MileageRate = Val(txtMileageRate)
    !SpouseName = txtSpouseName
    !SpouseEmployer = txtSpouseEmployer
    !EmergencyContact = txtEmergencyContact
    !Remarks = txtRemarks
    CreateModBy mrsEmployee
    .Update
    End With

    In my error trap I have tried the following:
    If Err <> 0 Then
    gstrProcedure = "EnableMovementKeys" & " - " & "frmEmployee"
    If gblnOpenCNError Then
    gstrProcedure = gstrProcedure & " (Connection not open - error trapped) "
    End If
    LogErrors (gstrProcedure)
    Select Case Err
    Case
    ' CloseEmployeeRecordset 'tried to close the record set with this procedure and it generated err by skipping this step, I was able to continue with the program execution.
    OpenEmployeeRecordset
    EnableMovementKeys
    Case Else
    MsgBox Err & " - " & sprers.euption & vbLf & "Message has been logged.", vbOKOnly + vbCritical, "Error"
    End Select
    End If

    What kind of locking and cursor are you using? If there is a chance of two users both hitting the same records, you should use Pessimistic locking. If you need th see changes in the data as they occur, use a dynamic cursor. (There is a performance hit for a dynamic cursor, but you may need it if this is a common occurrance)

    I am using adLockPessimistic and adOpenKeySet cursors. The chances of two users hitting the record at the same time are probably slim, I was just trying to prepare for the event by placing the error trap to inform the user that the changes were canceled due to editing by another user. After that I wanted to update the record by requerying the recordset. That is where the problem came in. The only way I could requery the recordset was to re-open it, sql 3219 error. I could not close the recordset without getting that error.

    You would not have to requery the database if you use adOpenDynamic

    I recall getting this error before. I think you have to cancel the current action. I think I solved that by putting something in the error handler that says if err number is = to the error your getting then if editmode not equal to vbedit none .cancel.

Hi,

I'm getting this error when trying to requery. Any suggestions on where this is coming from?
Greetings, LOCAFO!

What are you querying? What language are you using?

Aug 8 '07

I'm using vb6. It is so strange. The application works in one building without problems but in another building down the street they are getting this error (they are running the same files and on the same SQL Server database.

When the users pull down the data and make modifications to the form, sql 3219 error, they receive this error. The code in the user control (ctlPropLandTab) requery routine is as follows.

Public Sub Requery()
On Error GoTo Requery_Error

m_sprers.euy

Requery_Exit:
Exit Sub

Requery_Error:
Beep
msg = "ctlPropLandyTab: Requery_Error - BK-ER-" & Format(X, "") & ": " & Err & vbCrLf & Error
MsgBox "Critical Error - BK-ER-" & Format(X, "") & ": " & Err & vbCrLf & Error, sql 3219 error, "Critical Error - ctlPropLandTab: Requery_Error"
Resume Next
End Sub

m_CasePropLand is linked to a class module (clsCasePropLand)

This is the sql 3219 error for the Requery routine in the class module (clsCasePropLand)

Public Sub Requery()
sprers.euy
DataMemberChanged "Primary"
End Sub

Thanks

Sorry if this question has already been answered but I have been unable sql 3219 error find an answer that pertains to my code.
Here it isI created a select query built on the fly from a field on a table. I need the query to supply information that will be used in an email. I then however want to update another table with a true value. It will mean that I have sent the email sql 3219 error that person, sql 3219 error. Here is what I have.

CODE

strsql = "SELECT tblEmailMaster.[First Name], tblEmailMaster.[Last Name],
sprers.eupe, tblEmailMaster.[Company ID],
tblEmailMaster.[Email Address], sprers.eupe,
tblFromMasterOfACsToBeEmailed.[Company ID], sprers.eulCheck " &
_
"FROM tblEmailMaster INNER JOIN tblFromMasterOfACsToBeEmailed ON
tblEmailMaster.[Company ID] = tblFromMasterOfACsToBeEmailed.[Company ID] sql 3219 error
& _
"WHERE (((sprers.eupe) is not null) AND
((tblFromMasterOfACsToBeEmailed.[Email Address])='" & varAcEmail & "') AND
((tblFromMasterOfACsToBeEmailed.[Company ID])='" & varCompanyId & "')) " &
_
"ORDER BY tblEmailMaster.[Last Name];"

Second sql statement is

CODE

strsqll = "UPDATE tblEmailMaster SET sprers.euwn = True" & _
"WHERE (((tblEmailMaster.[First Name])='" & varOpFirstName & "') AND
((tblEmailMaster.[Last Name])='" & varOpLastName & "') AND
((tblEmailMaster.[Company ID])='" & varCompanyId & "'));"

I receive the error here Set rs2 = sprers.eucordset(strsqll)

Error - Invalid Operation

Error - Invalid Operation

I have the following query:
SELECT sprers.eu, sql 3219 error, sprers.eu, sprers.euGroup, IIf([OldStatus] Is Null,[NewStatus],[OldStatus]) AS Old_Status, IIf([OldStatusGroup] Is Null,[tblStatusGroups]![StatusGroup],[OldStatusGroup]) AS OldStatusGrp, sprers.euwn, IIf([PytsDown]>=7,"7+ Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=6,"6 Pyts Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=5,"5 Pyts Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=4,"4 Pyts Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=3,"3 Pyts Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=2,"2 Pyts Dwn",IIf([PytsDown]>=1,"1 Pyts Dwn","Up To Date"))))))) AS PytsDwn
FROM sql 3219 error INNER JOIN tblStatuses ON sprers.euRef = sprers.euRef) INNER JOIN tblStatusGroups Sql 3219 error sprers.euD = sprers.euD) INNER JOIN qsel_DailyStatusChange ON sprers.eu = qsel_sprers.eu
WITH OWNERACCESS OPTION;

If I run with output all fields = false I get "Error - Invalid Operation"

If I run with ouput all fields = true it tuns OK.

FYI qsel_DailyStatusChange contains 2 left joins and runs with output all fields = false

All help is welcome

Runtime Error Invalid Operation

I'm in the process of trying to migrate a Database from Access to SQL Server, and I'm having a rather odd error that doesn't make any sense to me. It shows up when I'm looking at data stored on SQL Server through an Access frontend. The error goes away when I relink everything back to the Access database. In the end it looks like a query issue, so please sql 3219 error with me

When I try to run one of my reports, I get a "Runtime Error Invalid Operation" popup. The debugger brings up a line that says:

sprers.euport "rpt_Promo_OldestAddresses", acViewPreview

So I go and check out the report in question, and I get the same sql 3219 error, only now it's coming straight from Access, rather than VB, sql 3219 error, so it only says "Invalid Operation." Looking at the sql 3219 error, I sql 3219 error that it's pulling data straight from one query, so I go check that out. Same error. That query pulls its data from three tables and a query. The tables are all fine, so I check out the query. Same error. That query pulls its data from two tables and three queries, but all those queries check out just fine. So first thing, I copy the SQL text of the query, and paste it into a new query, and the error persists (not surprisingly, but it's always worth trying!) The text of the query is:

SELECT Temp_sprers.eu_i32, tbl_Customers_sprers.eu_dtm
FROM
(
(
(
Temp_NameInfo LEFT JOIN tbl_Customers_PromotionalGift
ON Delphi idtcpclient error socket #10061 = tbl_Customers_sprers.eu_i32
)
LEFT JOIN qry_Test_AttendedRetreatOrConference
ON Temp_sprers.eu_i32 = qry_Test_sprers.eu_ctr
)
LEFT JOIN [qry_Test_Has MadeDonation]
ON Temp_sprers.eu_i32 = [qry_Test_Has MadeDonation].Code_ctr
)
LEFT JOIN qry_Test_HasMadePurchase
ON Temp_sprers.eu_i32 = qry_Test_sprers.eu_ctr
WHERE (((qry_Test_sprers.eufParticipantID_i32)>0))
OR ((([qry_Test_Has MadeDonation].CountOfID_i32)>0))
OR (((qry_Test_sprers.eufID_i32)>0))
ORDER BY tbl_Customers_sprers.eu_dtm, Temp_sprers.eu_i32;

If I change the "OR"s in the WHERE clause to "AND"s, the problem goes away (but the query pulls the wrong data). If I restrict the WHERE clause to one of the three comparisons, it works fine (regardless of which one. However, sql 3219 error, if I change the WHERE clause to add the three columns, and compare that number to 0, sql 3219 error, it gives the "Invalid Operation" error again. If I put any of the three columns in the SELECT clause, it gives the "Invalid Operation" error.

I don't get this. How can "x AND y AND z" be a valid operation, but "x OR y OR z" is sql 3219 error a valid operation?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Cliff
