Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

The socket error 10053 windows mail is set to the local machine (127.0.0.1). This was probably done
by an anti-virus or anti-spam program set to scan email, socket error 10053 windows mail. Turn off email
scanning in all programs. It provides no added security at all. The reset
the account per the provider's instructions.

Karina.

Turning off the email scanning in Norton or in any other Anti Virus will not solve
your issue. The problem being that the scanning will not turn off correctly. You
need to uninstall Norton as per the Norton uninstall tool and then re-install it
without the email integration(scanning) option. This will turn the scanning off.
Not the way you have went about it.
Also if I were you I would dump Norton completely and install something like Avast fonction cross track error gps is far better than Norton as far as scanning and issues not happening. It
also works much better than Norton

Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't have an email scanning
module, so there is nothing to turn off.
Thanks for including the complete error message because it made
the diagnosis easy.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
then uncheck the SSL option.

Your provider doesn't support advanced options like SSL:

I am not at my home computer, which is where my original email account is
set up. I am at work trying to set up the live mail to access my home email,

This error message is quite different.
The original error message reflected using SSL on port 25.
This the make-engine exited with errors reflects using no SSL on port 587.

There are two possible reasons why socket error 10053 windows mail are getting this
second error message:
1) Wavecable.com may not support port 587.
2) The corporate connection you are using has a firewall that blocks
port 587.

Based on some testing I did just now, the first possibility is true.

The error "unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference
from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running? Some of
them cause problems with Windows Mail over time. As a minimum,
email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off, although that may
not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario,
your antivirus may need to be uninstalled/reinstalled or replaced.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

As an alternative to replacing your antivirus, consider upgrading to
Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from
overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Error 10053 means that an established connection has been dropped.

There are three descriptions of this error message we know about, but the descriptions are given by Windows, so they may vary depending on your version of Windows:

  • An established connection was aborted by the error compiling keymap in your host machine.
  • The TCP/IP Connection was aborted by Windows. This was possibly due to a data transmission timeout or protocol error.
  • The virtual circuit was terminated due to a time-out or other failure. The application should close the socket as it is no longer usable.

In the first of these, the 'software in your host machine' that is referred to is actually 'Winsock' - the TCP/IP component of Windows, socket error 10053 windows mail, not VPOP3, socket error 10053 windows mail. The 'protocol error' referred to in the second text is the TCP protocol, not POP3 or SMTP, etc protocol.

10053 errors are actually quite rare usually, but there are a couple of cases we know of which can cause them:

  • if the 10053 error is being reported by bios error 04 reading hard disk email error 718 blackberry modem or by VPOP3 when downloading and/or sending email, it could be a problem with your antivirus software. Both McAfee VirusScan 8 and Norton Antivirus 2004 have been found to give these errors sometimes, but other virus scanners or versions may also cause these errors. See below for more information.
  • if the 10053 error is reported in the VPOP3 Status Monitor program, then this usually means that the VPOP3 server has stopped for some reason. It may be that it was stopped by someone else, or it may have failed with an application error.
  • some early releases of version 2 of vPOP3 use the recycle bin quite extensively. Windows is sometimes unable to deal with these requests and this can result in 10053 errors. To eliminate this as a possible cause of 10053 errors, ensure you are running at least version 2.5.0b of vPOP3.

It looks like some users have encountered Windows Socket Error 10053. There are a number of factors that can cause this problem. We will talk about this below.

Winsock error 10053 appears in SMTP mail from Help and MDaemon.

Winsock error 10053 occurs in many cases with routers, firewalls and proxies. Do you use them? If you are using a router, you need to make sure the MTU schedule is 1500. Then see if that solves your problem. If not, check the mtu settings on the MDaemon server (the mtu settings are in the registry).

An organizational interrupt has occurred on the internal host machine. The software dropped the connection completely because there is space in the socket queue besides the socket that cannot intercept other connections. Description:

winsock This error can occur if the local network system drops the current connection. This could happen if WinSock disconnected an established connection after failing to retransmit the recommendation (the recipient confirms that results were never sent over the data stream socket).

TCP / IP Scenario A. Connection lost although the local system does not receive a large acknowledgment (ACK) for the data being sent. It also waits for a timeout if a TCP mysql error 1366 ish packet is not recognized (and if a FIN is recognized, the site will eventually shut down if a FIN is not returned).

There are three descriptions for some of the error messages that we are aware of, although the descriptions are for Windows only, so they may differ depending on your version of Windows:

    • An established connection was interrupted by software on your host computer.

    • windows sockets error 10053

The TCP / IP connection was interrupted by Windows. This could be due to a critical information transmission timeout or a protocol error.

    • If your email client or VPOP3 reports your error 10053, then it might just be a problem with your antivirus software when downloading and / or sending emails. It has been suggested that McAfee VirusScan 8 Norton and Antivirus 2004 show these errors sometimes, and other antivirus or versions may cause these errors as well. See below for more information.

    • If the VPOP3 status program reports error 10053, periodically check to see if the VPOP3 server is down for any reason. It might have been stopped by someone else, or it might have crashed due to an application error.

    • the first selected versions of version 2 as well as vPOP3 almost completely use the recycle bin. Sometimes Windows cannot meet these requirements, which can lead to errors 10053. Some Windows users are encountering the 10053 error code while trying to connect their computer with an SMTP mail or when trying to perform a Winsock command. This problem is typically linked to router restrictions, overprotective firewalls or Proxies, and VPNs.

Method 1: Disabling or Uninstalling Overprotective AV suites (if applicable)

If you’re using a 3rd party suite you’re encountering the 10053 error code when trying to perform a certain action having to do with your email client (like downloading or sending email via VPOP3), chances are this issue is being caused by your antivirus software.

According to some affected users, this problem is often caused by certain versions of McAfee VirusScan and Norton Antivirus – These are just two 3rd party AV that we discovered, but there might be other software causing the same kind of problem.

If this scenario looks like it could be applicable, you should start by disabling the real-time protection and seeing if the error code stops occurring with most AV suites, you can disable the real-time protection by right-clicking the tray-bar icon and looking for an option that will disable the real-time shields.

If disabling the real-time protection didn’t end up fixing the issue, follow the instructions below to uninstall the problematic suite from your computer and clear any remnant file to fix the problem:

    1. Open up a Run dialog box by pressing Windows key + R. Next, type ‘appwiz.cpl’ inside the text box and press Enter to open up the Programs and Files menu.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl and Press Enter To Open Installed Programs Page
    3. Once you’re inside the Programs and Features menu, scroll down through the list of installed programs and locate the problematic Antivirus or Firewall solution that’s causing the conflict.
    4. When you see it, right-click on it and choose Uninstall from the newly appeared context menu to begin the uninstallation process.
    5. Uninstalling your error 16 adobe after effects the operation is complete, reboot your computer and wait for the next startup to complete.
    6. After your computer boots back up, follow the instructions specific to your Antivirus to remove any remnant files left behind by your 3rd party Antivirus installation.
    7. Once you manage to completely remove your 3rd party security suite from your AV, move down to the next potential fix sql 08001 error https://appuals.com/asynchronous-socket-error-10053-on-windows-operating-system/

  • Windows Live Mail - unexpected errors

My installation of Windows Live Mail has at least several messages in its list (as in the Inbox and another folder, I checked) that aren't really there.  They are not in the data store, when I try to view or to delete them I get an "unknown error".   (I forgot the exact error, but I don't want to risk an accident if it occurs.)

I can say Windows Live Mail to recreate its views based on what is really in the files?  Where is it?

The program hangs when it tries to compress the files (likely because he hit the messages that do not really exist), who usually finds himself now completely destroy my current accounts and leave him with only one or two things, almost like a basic installation.

    It's very annoying.

    Hi,
I have a workflow that's been running for a couple of years without issue, however recently I've been receiving the message below:

    W3233 : Error: Socket Error # 10053
    Software caused connection abort.

W3231 : SMTP Email output failed

    Send Email: W1603 : Plugin failed - 10:49:49 (elapsed time: 00:00:00:027)

-The data input file is a csv
-It's split by an emulated data splitter
-Processed via a digital action, using a PP design template, 'Use digital as new stream' all settings are standard other than a PDF open password, that's set to a field in the underlying csv file.

If I send the file to a folder it works, If I try to email the file, I get the above message. An email is sent, but the attachment is stripped.

    Steps taken to remedy.

Tried re-uploading the design template - didn't work
Tried sending the attachment via outlook (e.g. sent the pp output to a folder then opened outlook and attached the file) - works

I've created a dummy workflow for test purposes and tried the following:

Emailing using Create PDF - works
Emailing using digital action - works
Emailing using digital action with static password (Not from data file, just typed into the digital action password field) - works
Emailing Using digital action using dynamic password from datafile - fails.

I am sending via smtp, we have an IIS smtp server that sends directly to our exchange server. My infrastructure team have disabled all firewalls and antivirus temporarilly to eliminate them. The only thing the mail mail logs yeild are that PP is trying to send the attachment as an 'octet stream'. when sending via outlook the atachmnet type is 'Application /ms'

    PP production version 7.6.1.9352

If anyone is able to point me in the right direction i'd be most grateful

    Si

The first question you should ask is "what as changed since?".
    Any recent Windows update?
Any change in the data? Especially where you look for your password?

Then again, it could be a corruption of the Workflow configuration file or of the Workflow Configuration program itself.

Have you try to run a repair on Workflow through the Add/Remove program of Windows?

You could also try, as a test, to set a static password in a local variable or a jobinfo and use that in DigitalAction. This way we can check if the problem is with static value in the password field VS a dynamic one, or if it is related to your data selection.

Also look for any changes that have occurred on the server side, as dropped connection may be caused by mismatches between what the client (i.e. Workflow) sends and what the server (i.e. your SMTP server) expects. Server-side logs may have additional troubleshooting info as well.
