Please make sure to check the Essbase Error Message Reference -

It suggests - 'Increase the values for NETDELAY and
NETRETRYCOUNT (see ?Setting NETDELAY and
NETRETRYCOUNT? on page ).'

This problem may be a result of an inefficient data load process using much more I/O than is necessary.
Are you loading a lot of data? 30 minutes doesn't sound bad, but you may be able to reduce load time dramatically by insuring load records are ordered optimally. Refer to chapter in Essbase DBAG on "Optimizing Data Loads", specifically the section on "Grouping Sparse Member Combinations" -

"The most effective strategy to improve performance is to minimize the number of disk I/Os that Essbase must perform while reading or writing to the database. Because Essbase loads data block by block, organizing the source data to correspond to the physical block organization reduces the number of physical disk I/Os that Essbase must perform.
Arrange the data source so that records with the same unique combination of sparse dimensions are grouped together. This arrangement corresponds to blocks in the database." Detailed examples are provided in DBA Guide.

This can often be accomplished by a simple SORT command in SSIS. While the sort might add a small amount of time to the overall load process, it could reduce the Essbase Load part of the process dramatically.

Error in restructuring the outline

Hi Experts, I am facing the problem while doing restructure with outline. I am building dimensions in BSO cube manually. when i save outline,i am getting the following message&#; Error occured setting the server application active&#;,and my cube is getting closed. may i get some inputs behind this? Any inputs/suggestions are greatly apreciated. Regards Srinivasa rao The first thing I would check is the dense/sparse settings of the database. If you are manually creating the dimensions are you making the block bigger than will fit into memory. I&#;ve had this happen before having a dimension set to dense that should be sparse. Try adding one or two members and saving to see if you run into the same problem. Another thing that prevents restructures is having people active on the database . The message might be deceiving, so to insure that it is not a database problem, try starting the database from EAS before making any changes (Right click on DB and say start). check the messages to make sure it succeeds. I&#;ve had a similar issue to this, but I&#;m not sure if it is related. If possible, stop all applications running on that server. Then check to see if there are any sprers.eu processes left running. I had one application that was hung. I ended this process, restarted my applications and everything worked fine.

sprers.eu file corruption

Did anyone have the following issue: sprers.eu file seemed to be corrupted, but Essbase started without errors. Filters where all messed up to the point where users with limited applications access - group assignment were able to access all applications. EAS did not show any changes in the group/privileges assignments. We are in version Essbase installed in SUN Solaris Spark v10/UNIX environment. We had to re-store sprers.eu file from the backup and everything was corrected. Happened after scheduled Essbase services restart and no users security or filters updates applied. 1) file sprers.eu must be backupED 2) u can delete sprers.eu and create new super administrator for essbase but u loos All security - users and filtesr and SherdServer registration good luck ! Has this happened more than once, or was this a one-off? How did you stop Essbase? Was it through MaxL/Esscmd or via an OS service stop? Regards, Cameron Lackpour Cameron, I am sure you are nearly here 24 hours a day :) I would think the same can be said about you. Sometimes I think -- huh? What time is it over there? Hmm, he&#;s now on British Double Summer Time, so that puts him five hours ahead, unless we&#;re in that calendar combination where the UK is still on BDST, but the US is off Daylight Savings Time, unless it&#;s the opposite, andI can never figure out how you post so often, on so many different boards, either. :) BTW, there isn&#;t any chance that you&#;re going to be at Kaleidoscope next week? I think I owe you several rounds for the ODI content of your blog alone. Regards, Cameron Lackpour it is nearly 12pm here and I am sure that is an acceptable time to post, it must be early in the morning over there (just guessing you could be anywhere) and that is a scary time to post :) I just don&#;t really exist that is why I get to post often I would love to have been going to Kaleidoscope but certain elements have stopped me from making it this time, unfortunately its not that close, though next time I should be there Cheers John sprers.eu 1) Check from the EAS all the filter definitions and group assignments are OK or not. if ok refesh the security from MaxL MaxL> alter system resync sss; if didn&#;t work collect all the users, groups and filters information. and follow the below process. a) Stop ESSBASE SERVER. b) Run sprers.eu (without the boot password) to create the NEW sprers.eu file with the NEW boot password. This will make ESSBASE run in Native Security. c) you can not load the applications as there is no entries for the applications in new sprers.eu d) Use MAXL/EAS console to create the applications. Since the file system has all the application files, this will only create the entries in the sprers.eu sprers.eu will solve the issue. e) redefine the security again. Hi, In the same path there exist one file named sprers.eu Just you need to rename that .bak file to .sec file. Before doing this process, enssure that backup of the .bak file is taken. Thanks & Regards, Sravan Kumar.

Essbase - Problems with Cube rename - Error

Hi all, I am having problems with renaming a cube using Essbase version , when I try to rename it I get the following: &#;Error: Cannot rename directory: S:\Hyperion\Products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\app\AppBK [File Exists]&#; I currently have set up an overnight batch process that executes various MaxL scripts to backup my Production cubes and rebuild various dimensions. There are 3 instances of each cube, a production version, a backup and an empty base outline. The overnight drops the backup, renames production to become the new backup, and then create a new production from the base outline. There are obviously other scripts running copying outlines, exporting data etc, but they all seem to work fine. The problem occurs whenever I try to rename the production cube to backup for the 2nd time. The first time I use a new name for the backup cube the rename works fine, however the next run, after the previous backup has been dropped I get the above error. This occurs via the script, or when trying to manually rename to a previously used name in EAS. There are 3 sets of cubes that this process runs against, 2 of them are working fine without any problems, it is only 1 set of cubes I have this problems with. I have tried dropping and recreating all the cubes new and that didn&#;t solve the problem, the fact that I can delete the cubes and create new ones using the same names confuses me, the problem seems limited to rename. The security has been set up externally using shared services, and due to the problem involving a previously used name I am guessing this could be related to shared services as that is the only place I can think would reference any cube names that no longer exist. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Apologies if I have not given enough information I have only been working with Essbase for a few months so still learning :) Many thanks Pete Hi Pete, The error in version 11 has the following information in the error reference doc &#; See if another user has locked the file (see Unlocking Objects). Ensure that the new directory name does not match an existing directory name. Make your operating system privileges are correct for the old and new directories. Ensure that yourEssbase permissions are correct for the listed old directory. Determine whether the security file is corrupt. Stop and restart the application. If that does not work, stop and restart Essbase Server. Ensure that disk space is adequate. Close Windows Explorer. Sometimes Explorer can hold the directory open, which can lead to the error. If the suggested solutions do not work, create a new application and database and copy the outline and other objects to the new application and database. When you are finished, ensure that the new application and database are not corrupt (Checking for Database Corruption). Ensure that the OLAP Server is running. If Essbase Server is not running, restart Essbase Server. If Essbase Server crashed, follow the procedures for an abnormal shutdown. If Essbase Server is frozen, stop Essbase Server and follow the procedures for an abnormal shutdown. If you cannot stop Essbase Server using the standard methods, end the task (see Ending the Server Task). &#; Hope it helps. Sandeep Reddy Enti HCC sprers.eu Hi Sandeep, Thanks for the response. I had looked up the error before and have tried out the suggestions without success. It&#;s only a problem on one set of cubes, and only happens the 2nd time I rename a cube using the same name. I&#;ll continue to try recreating and using different names until I get somewhere, but any other advice would be useful. Thanks Pete

temporary index (.inn) file error

Couple of days back during the nightly dimension bulid the server ran out of hard disk space and dimension build stopped in the middle with out clearing the temporary files like .pan and .inn files. so i deleted those files and cleared some other temporary files which is not related to essbase and we now have enough space. but after that when we try to run dim build it is giving the following error. [Tue Jun 08 ]Local/FinReptP/FinRept/haluser/Error() Unable To Find Or Open [D:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\APP\FinReptP\FinRept\essinn] Saying it is unable to open .inn temporary file. My understanding is it has to create by its own during the outline restructure right? in addition to deleting temporary files we spilited operating system (window page file) in to 2 drives (c and D) for more space. Any suggestions will be a great help. Thanks, Harry Hi Harry, confirm if you were able to retrieve the data from the said cube ? - Krish Yes I am able to retrive and load the data also. The only problem is during the dimension build. during the dimension build it will create temporary files (.inn sprers.eu) and it will delete by itslef after the restructure completes. but some how it is not able to find/create it. Hi Harry, you seems to have only deleted .pan & .inn files. during (dense) restructure there are some other temp files created like sprers.eu, sprers.eu, sprers.eu Confirm if you had removed the mentioned temp files. - Krish I would export all level 0 data, clear all data from the cube in EAS or MaxL (which will remove the .idx and .pag files), then reload the level 0 export and calculate the cube. After that, try your dimension build again. Krish, Its a good caught. I removed .otn file but i dont see other files. Rigideon -- this might be a good try but it is time taking and risky because it is a production system. i will try this as a last option if i dont find any. thank you for both of you for the quick replies. Harry I guess the dim build should work fine now after removing otn file. - Krish krish I removed .oth file at the same time when i removed .pan and .inn files. after that i tried to run dim build but it failed. so you mean to say you had removed all temporary files, but still the dim build is not happening. and the strange thing is you were able to load & retrieve data, that means the database was not corrupted. This cannot be the case. we are missing something here. Are you sure you had removed .inn, .pan, .otn files from database directory ? - Krish yep it is really strange situation and i checked twice and those files are not there. it happend before also but it fixed by itself. it looks strange but it is fact. if thats the case, its really strange. how was it able to fix the last time. have you tried restarting application if not essbase server - Krish my next step will be that. Thats the old principle from the days of using Windows.. :) When nothing seems to work, just restart it :p Krishna, recycling the essbase service is not helpfull but stop and start the application solved the problem. It is weird that recycling the service does not involved stop and start the application? any way my problem solved and than you for the suggestions. Harry thats really wierd. When you are restarting Essbase server , you will obviously stop the application and start it once essbase is restarted. So app restart will happen during essbase restart. Why is tht it didnt work in this case - Krish

My essbase applications are constantly getting corrupted

Hi, I have several essbase applications and for some reason, I don&#;t know why, they are getting corrupted very often. It is very strange. The thing is that when this happens, I have to create another application, with a different name and buiild and import all data into the cube in order to have my information. The other application (corrupted) is unavailable and cannot delete it from the EAS. Some days after this, the application that I created instead of the first one, gets corrupted again and I have to do the same thing once again in order to have my information. Has this happened to someone else? Does someone know why this happen and how to solve it?? Thanks!!!! Edited by: on ago You haven&#;t given us enough information. How about: 1) Release of Essbase 2) ASO vs BSO 3) What do the log files say 4) Any .xcp files 5) Do you have 15 or 25 or versions of an application, of which one is good? 6) Are you on an old(ish) version of Essbase that relies a lot on sprers.eu? Is that what is getting corrupted? Have you tried backing it up and then attempting to restore it when a corruption occurs? Regards, Cameron Lackpour Thanks im working with EAS , all my applications are block storage, when I try to load information into my cube, it says Network error, cannot send / recieve data. It is not a network problem because I can still load information in other cubes. After this, I can&#;t load information. I try to stop the application, and then start it again, and it won&#;t let me. It says, cannot load database. This is when I know my cube is corrupted. After this, i can&#;t even delete it from the EAS. Here is when i have to create another application and do everything again. Until now, I have 5 versions of my application and only the last one works. In the xcp files, I can&#;t find something relevant. thanks Hi, I&#;ve received the network error you have mentioned in the past. I would recommend you to - * Monitor you memory (RAM) on the server. Check if the server is not running out of memory during long running analytical processes. * Restart the Essbase server once or twice in a month. * Unload all applications and load the required ones before you start running the overnight processes. * Clear log files once in a week. * Check if your security file is corrupted. Restore it from backup if it is. Cheers.

Cheers.

Please make sure to check the Essbase Error Message Reference -
    sprers.eu

I am building dimensions in BSO cube manually. when i save outline,i am getting the following odi essbase error1019002 Error occured setting the server application active&#;,and my cube is getting closed. may i get some inputs behind this? Any inputs/suggestions are greatly apreciated. Regards Srinivasa rao The first thing I would check is the dense/sparse settings of the database. If you are manually creating the dimensions are you making the block bigger than will fit into memory. I&#;ve had this happen before having a dimension set to dense that should be sparse. Try adding one or two members and saving to see if you run into the same problem. Another thing that prevents restructures is having people active on the database. The message might be deceiving, so to insure that it is not a database problem, try starting the database from EAS before making any changes (Right click on DB and say start). check the messages to make sure it succeeds. I&#;ve had a similar issue to this, but I&#;m not sure if it is related. If possible, tactical ops assault on terror all applications running on that server.

Happened after scheduled Essbase services restart and no users security or filters updates applied, odi essbase error1019002. 1) file sprers.eu must be backupED 2) u can delete sprers.eu and create new super administrator for essbase but u loos All security - users and filtesr and SherdServer registration good luck ! Hmm, he&#;s now on British Double Summer Time, so that puts him five hours ahead, unless we&#;re in that calendar combination where the UK is still on BDST, but the US is off Daylight Savings Time, unless it&#;s the opposite, andI can odi essbase error1019002 figure out how you post so often, on so many different boards, either. Before doing this process, enssure that backup of the absolute error formula file is taken. Thanks & Regards, Sravan Kumar.

Essbase - Problems with Cube rename - Error

Hi all, I am having problems with renaming a cube using Essbase versionwhen I try to rename it I get the following: &#;Error: Cannot rename directory: S:\Hyperion\Products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\app\AppBK [File Exists]&#; I currently have set up an overnight batch process that executes various MaxL scripts to backup my Production cubes and rebuild various dimensions. There are 3 instances of each cube, a production version, a backup and an empty base outline. The overnight drops the backup, renames production to become the new backup, and then create a new production dvr client network error the base outline. There are obviously other scripts running copying outlines, exporting data etc, but they all seem to work fine. The problem occurs whenever I try to rename the production cube to backup for the 2nd time. The first time I use a new name for the backup cube the rename works fine, however the next run, after the previous backup odi essbase error1019002 been dropped I get the above error. Close Windows Explorer, odi essbase error1019002. If Odi essbase error1019002 Server crashed, follow the procedures for an abnormal shutdown. If Essbase Server is frozen, stop Essbase Server and follow the procedures for an abnormal shutdown. If you cannot stop Essbase Server using the standard methods, end the task (see Ending the Server Task). &#; Hope it helps. Sandeep Reddy Enti HCC sprers.eu Hi Sandeep, Thanks for the response, odi essbase error1019002. I had looked up the error before odi essbase error1019002 have tried out the suggestions without success. It&#;s only a problem on one set of cubes, and only happens the 2nd time I rename a cube using the same name. I&#;ll continue to try recreating and using different names odi essbase error1019002 I get somewhere, but any other advice would be useful. Thanks Pete

    temporary index (.inn) file error

Couple of days back during the nightly dimension bulid the server ran out of hard disk space and dimension build stopped in the middle with out clearing the temporary files like .pan and .inn files. so i deleted those files and cleared some other temporary files which is not related to essbase and we now have enough space. but odi essbase error1019002 that when we try to run dim build it is giving the following error. - Krish I would odi essbase error1019002 all level 0 data, clear all odi essbase error1019002 from the cube in EAS or MaxL (which will remove the .idx and .pag files), then reload the level 0 export and calculate the cube. Are you sure you had removed .inn. pan, odi essbase error1019002. otn files from database directory ? - Krish yep it is really strange situation and i checked twice and those files are not there. it happend before also but it fixed by itself. it looks strange but it is fact. if thats the case, its really strange. how was it able to fix the last time. have you tried restarting application if not essbase server - Krish my next step will be that. Thats the old principle from the days of using Windows. :) When nothing seems to work, just restart it :p Krishna, recycling the essbase service is not helpfull but stop and start the application solved the problem. It hwk unexpected exception box_auth_error 32 weird that recycling the service does not involved stop and start the application? any way my problem solved and than you for the suggestions. Harry thats really wierd. When you are restarting Essbase serveryou will obviously stop the application and start it once essbase is restarted.

Some days after this, the application that I created instead contr terrorism 3 epizod the first one, gets corrupted again and I have to do the same thing once again in order to have my information. Regards, Cameron Lackpour Thanks im working with EASall my applications are block storage, when I try to load information into my cube, it says Network error, cannot send / recieve data. It is not a network problem because I can still load information in other cubes. After this, I can&#;t load information. I try to stop the application, and then start it again, and it won&#;t let me. It says, cannot load database. This is when I know my cube is corrupted. After this, i can&#;t even delete it from the EAS. Odi essbase error1019002 is when i have to create another application and do everything again. Until now, I have 5 versions of my application and only the last one works. In the xcp files, I can&#;t find something relevant. thanks Hi, I&#;ve received the network error you have mentioned in the past. I would recommend you to - * Monitor you memory (RAM) on the server. Check if the server is not running out of memory during long running analytical processes, odi essbase error1019002. * Restart the Essbase server once or twice in a month. * Unload all applications and load the required ones before you start running the overnight processes. * Clear log files once in a week. * Check if your security file is corrupted. Restore it from backup if it is. Cheers.

This problem may be a result of an inefficient data load process using much more I/O than is necessary.
Are sec master hdd error loading a lot of data?
