Samsung HD103UJ Ultra DMA CRC Error Count

Bought this 1Tb Samsung F1 in June Last year, and i have recently noticed that the (C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count in the SMART data is showing a warning. (See attached image)

I have tried another cable, and the health status continued to show warning. Is this issue sufficient to request an RMA?

I also have this issue on my other HDD, a Samsung HD502IJ. Could the issue appearing on both drives be representative of a motherboard error?

    Thanks.

I'd try switching out your SATA cables.
Are you having any actual issues with the drive in day to day use?

Any thoughts then Scan people? Would this error be sufficient to request an RMA? Has anyone at Scan got any experience with this error?

Interestingly I have that error on my F1 too but not my F3.

Re: Samsung HD103UJ Ultra DMA CRC Error Count

Further testing shows that HDTune and HDDScan show these (C7) errors, while Speedfan and Active Smart do not. The latter two show this drive to be in good condition.

I am now monitoring the (C7) errors with HDtune to see if they go up, if they do not, do you think it would be safe to assume that a possible cable problem occurred at some time in the past, causing these errors and i should not worry too much about it?

Oh, thanks for the quick reply from the Scan Staff too............

have you tried running Samsung's own ESTOOL tool on it?
Unless its a very blatant error/fault I think you would need to show it faulty by samsung ESTOOL for anything to be done.

Re: Samsung HD103UJ Ultra DMA CRC Error Count

Yes, i have tried running the ESTool drive diagnostic on them, without the surface scan part, in fear of data loss, and that shows no errors. The drives are behaving fine, but i think the whole point of SMART data is to allow you to fix any problems before the disk fails, so i am just trying to find out if these errors are indicative of a drive about to fail.

I have swapped the cables now, and made a note of the data counts for the (C7) issue so i can monitor the situation, but it would still be great if the supplier or manufacturer could offer some expertise here and re-assure me that my data is safe!

Re: Samsung HD103UJ Ultra DMA CRC Error Count

I had something similar with a couple of my old Samsung HDD's. Had a warning in the SMART since day 1. A few months later it turned to failed and so did the drives. Therefore I would watch it carefully and make sure your data is safe just in case...

Keep an eye on count, if it goes up regularly, replace S-ATA cable. If it still goes up regularly, RMA.

Thanks for all the replies chaps. I have to say I am a tad annoyed that Scan haven't replied yet though....

The cables to both drives have now been replaced, and the error count seems static, however, i noticed that i had some controller errors logged in the event log last night, error 51 i think it was.

Re: Samsung HD103UJ Ultra DMA CRC Error Count

If you have access to another computer and can test the drive in there, that would be useful. It may be something else that is causing the error - erratic power, for example.

He posted about some spam which was deleted, hence the thread looking like he's replying to you, but I can assure you that he wasn't replying to your post. I've tidied the thread a little now to make it easier to read.

In regards to the HDD issue, please log the issue you are having if you have not already using the link Here

    It might also be worth downloading the samsung HDD testing utility to see what other errors the drive is reporting and this can be found at the following link ;

    http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...ort_in_es.html

    I hope this information helps.

    Best Regards,
