Cary Eclipse System Error: "AppsTable: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset"

I'm in IT support for a chemistry lab using an old Varian Cary Eclipse Fluorescence Spectrophotometer. The old PC the lab tech were using had some issues during Scan Setup where they were unable to input the necessary parameters for their measurements, so I replaced the PC and installed Cary Eclipse on the new one. New PC is Windows 10 x32. I was able to get everything running and working (apparently) fine by manually registering a couple DLLs that failed during the install, and grabbing an updated USB-GPIB driver from NI. Lab tech tested the Scan function and found everything worked great.

Today, same tech says she "checked to record the spectra" and is getting an error "System Error: AppsTable: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset".

I don't have specific knowledge of Cary Eclipse, what dataset is being referenced, or where that dataset is stored, and the documentation I've been able to find hasn't been terribly informative. Does anyone have information about where the dataset is stored, how a new dataset on a fresh install of Cary Eclipse would have closed before any data was recorded, and how to resolve this error?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Finn!

Yes, you missed that a table posts at datachange automatically. After a
post you must apply a new edit. Therefore you must have both an edit and a
post with code between, in every loop that edit a table.

Hope this helps

Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset.

Hi All, We are using Saleslogix version 6.1 which was working fine till a few days ago. No one can now log into the system and this is the error message when we try to login. ""A database error occurred: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset"". Our remote server however seems to work fine though for some reason, error perform closed dataset, the 'PINGSERVER' in the 'SYSTEMINFO' table somehow seems to change from the remote server name to the Main Office server name. When this happens, when they log out and try to log back in, they get an error. Has anyone come across such a problem and any resolutions?? =20 error perform closed dataset I have read the article on this knowledge base but it doesn't seem to help. http://support.saleslogix.com/kb/v52/sales/01090218.php3 =20 Thanks George
  • For the first issue, did someone remove sysdba from the sql server (non SLX)
    databases?

For the second, I experienced that if someone sets up the saleslogix server
on another machine and uses connection manager to point to a SLX database,
the pingserver is changed to that server. I'd say someone is on the Main
office server and has a connection defined for the remote database rather
than pointing to the remote office server and using its connections.

    About the first issue.
user sysdba own tables in the db.How did you drop it ???Anywaysafter
recreating thatdid you run the sp_change_users_login stored proc to
sync sysdba user with the sysdba login for the server???

Did you check the server connection(The one which all clients are using
) to be still working ???

I have seen the following issue with 5.2 .But when you attach /detach
the db and restart the serverthis error was gone.

About the secondwhy cant you have a separate connection defined for
remote server in that local machine(127.0.0.1) and NOT in your Main
office server???Once i changed the ping port in one db thru wrkgrp admin
for fixing a license listener problem and it changed ports in all the 5
dbs i had in that server.

  • Hi,

We have moved our database to a new server=2E The approach we used=
was to backup from the current server, then moved the backup=
database onto the new server=2E After restored it, it keeps=
telling us "cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset"=2E=
When we ran into this issue, we did run sp_change_users_login=
'Update_One', 'sysdba', 'sysdba' to update the user account, but=
    that didn't help either=2E

Could anyone let us know how else we could solve this issue? Any=

  • This is the routine I use:

    Backup database
On new server, install SQL Server, Patch to latest release
Create the sysdba user - do not give it any roles
Create the new database (just give it a location)
Assign the login sysdba access to this database - again, no roles - just
    everyone/database owner
Restore the old database over error perform closed dataset new database
Fix the orphan'd user logon using:
    sp_change_users_login 'Update_One', 'sysdba', 'sysdba'

That's it - should work fine.

From your point of view - drop the database and drop the sysdba and do
    the above in this order.

How do I solve the "Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset" with Borland Database Engine and a Delphi application? [closed]

If you run your application Delphi will restore the or state that the dataset had in the Delphi form designer.

If there is an error Delphi can quitly drop this and close the dataset.
Also it's possible that you accidently closed the dataset in the designer, after with it no longer auto-opens on ptogram start.
When it's time to use the dataset you will windows socket error share this error because the dataset is closed.

One option is to explicitly open the dataset in the FormCreate event and add error handling code there, error perform closed dataset, this will allow you to see the error message and debug from there.

I always do opening of datasets explicitly in FormCreate because this allows me to log any errors. If a client app has an exception it gets emailed to me automatically.
