Are you running node_exporter in Docker?

What did you do that produced an error?

Download last version for darwin, untar , got error

What did you expect to see?

node_exporter start correctly

What did you see instead?

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
Is compression performed correctly?

Untar error: tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

With the command (GNU tar release)

you'll find what's inside your gzipped tarball archive file.

If you want to uncompress all stuff that are into your gzipped tar archive you have to fire:

All files will be untared into the current path from where your are calling the previous command. If you just want to uncompress a given relative path from your archive into your current path you can use the command

It will untar only the files you want to uncompress. Those files will be released into your current working directory. If you want to release the files into another path you have to use the "-C" option followed by the path to the previous tar command.

Tar is the most commonly used packing and compressing tool in Linux. It plays a role similar to winzip or WinRAR in windows. The following are the common command parameters and application examples of the tool:
Main command:
-C create package
-X unpack
-T list the contents of the package
-R add files to the specified package
-U update files in package
Optional command:
-J use bzip2 to compress or decompress when creating or unpacking packages;
-Z use gzip to compress or decompress when creating or unpacking packages;
-Z use compress to compress or decompress when creating or unpacking packages;
-F is followed by the specified package file name;
-V shows the packing / unpacking process
-C specifies the path after unpacking
For example:
tar -czf tmp.tar.gz /TMP compresses / tmp directory and stores it as tmp.tar.gz ;
tar -xzf tmp.tar.gz -C / home will tmp.tar.gz Unpack the package to the directory of / home;
tar -t tmp.tar.gz see tmp.tar.gz File information in the package;

Tar decompression problem

As shown below, “gzip: stdin: not in gzip format” and other errors are encountered when using tar – zxvf to extract files

Copy code

The code is as follows:

[[email protected] tmp]#
[[email protected] tmp]# tar -zxvf Percona-XtraBackup-2.2.12-r8726828-el5-x86_64-bundle.tar
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Finally found that the compression package is not compressed in gzip format, so do not add Z parameters, shame!

Copy code

The code is as follows:

[[email protected] tmp]# tar -xvf Percona-XtraBackup-2.2.12-r8726828-el5-x86_64-bundle.tar percona-xtrabackup-2.2.12-1.el5.x86_64.rpmpercona-xtrabackup-debuginfo-2.2.12-1.el5.x86_64.rpmpercona-xtrabackup-test-2.2.12-1.el5.x86_64.rpmYou have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root[[email protected] tmp]#
