When you encounter this error, it simply means that the hard drive has gone bad or disk failure and requires a replacement. These failures can. Hello, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft community. I would require more information to help you better. From the error code Dustin Larmore, The error means that the hard drive is defective or broken You will need to have it replaced. The Inspiron N / N / 14R system uses.
Error code 2000-01-42 dell - variant Bravo
Hard drive problems are pretty common in older laptops and sometimes in newer ones too. While the signs of a hard drive gone bad are quite easy to interpret (these include data corruption, extremely long boot/start-up time, slow read-write speeds, etc.), one needs to confirm that it is indeed the hard drive that is causing the said problems before running to the hardware store and buying a new replacement drive.
An easy way to confirm hard drive corruption is running a Pre-boot System Analysis (PSA) diagnostics test that is provided by most manufacturers. The ePSA or the Enhanced Pre-boot System Analysis test available on Dell computers checks all connected hardware to the system and includes sub-tests for memory, hard drive, fan and other input devices, etc. To run an ePSA test on your Dell system, restart your computer/laptop and keep pressing the F12 key until you enter the One-time boot menu. Finally, highlight Diagnostics and press enter.
Users performing an ePSA test often run into an error or two indicating disk failure/crash. The most common one is ‘Error Code ’ or ‘MSG: Error Code ’.
If you are one of the unlucky Dell users that ran to the diagnostic error, then you have come to the right place. In this article, we will be explaining the likely reasons for the said error and give you a couple of methods to fix Dell Diagnostic error error.
What causes the Dell Diagnostic Error ?
The ePSA diagnostic error code implies that the hard disk drive (HDD) self-test was unsuccessful. In layman’s terms, the error code means that the test failed to read information off your computer’s hard disk drive. Since there is trouble reading from the HDD, your computer may not start or will at least have some trouble booting up. The three most common reasons for the diagnostic error are:
- Loose or incorrect SATA connections:SATA cables are used to connect your hard drive to your motherboard. An incorrect connection or a faulty/damaged cable will cause errors in reading data off your hard drive and therefore lead to the error.
- Corrupt MBR: Hard drives store data on a platter surface which is divided into pie-shaped sectors and concentric tracks. The Master Boot Record (MBR) is the information contained in the very first sector of an HDD and it holds the location of the operating system. A corrupt MBR implies the PC can’t locate the OS and as a result, your computer will have difficulty or won’t boot up at all.
- Mechanical Damage: Damage in the form of a broken read-write head, spindle malfunction, cracked platter or any other damage to your hard drive can lead to the error as data cannot be read.
How to fix Diagnostic Error ?
9 out of 10 times, the arrival of the diagnostic error suggests that your hard drive is nearing its end. So it is important for users to backup their data to avoid losing any of it whenever the dreaded day arrives. Below are a few methods that you can use to salvage your data from a terminal hard drive (repairing MBR and reinstalling Windows OS) and finally, what steps you should take in case the hard drive has already stopped working (replacing the HDD).
Method 1: Check SATA cables
Before moving forward to the more advanced methods, we will first ensure that the problem isn’t caused due to IDE or SATA cables. Open up your computer and unplug the cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard. Slightly blow wind into the connecting ends of the cable to get rid of any dirt that might be clogging the connection. Plug the cables and the hard drive back in, perform an ePSA test, and check if the error still persists.
You should also try using the SATA cables to connect another hard drive or connect the suspected hard drive into another system to pinpoint the cause of the error. If you have another set of SATA cables available, try using them to connect the hard drive and make sure what’s the root cause.
Method 2: Perform a ‘Disk Check’ in the command prompt to repair MBR
As mentioned earlier, the information about the location of your operating system is stored in the Master Boot Record and it helps the computer know where to load the OS from. If the issue is caused due to a corrupted MBR, this method will help you recover any data.
If this works, we recommend that you backup your data to a brand new hard drive immediately, since the error you experienced indicates an approaching disk failure. You will need a bootable Windows disk to continue with this method – How to Create Windows 10 Bootable USB Flash Drive
1. Before you start the computer, insert the Windows installation disc in the disc drive.
2. Once you see the prompt, press the required key. Alternatively, on startup, press F8 and choose DVD drive from the boot menu.
3. One by one, select the language to install, time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method, then click on ‘Next’.
4. An ‘Install Windows’ window will pop up, click on ‘Repair your computer’.
5. In the ‘System Recovery Options’, select the operating system that you want to repair. Once it is highlighted, click on ‘Next’.
6. In the following dialogue box, choose the ‘Command Prompt’ as the recovery tool.
Method 6: Replace your Hard Drive Disk
If neither performing a disk checkup nor reinstalling windows worked for you, your disk may be experiencing permanent failure and needs replacement.
If your system is under warranty, Dell’s support will replace the drive free of cost once you contact and inform them about this error. To check if your system is under warranty, visit Warranty & Contracts. If not, you can do it yourself.
The hard disk replacement process is easy but it differs from model to model, a simple internet search will let you know how to replace yours. You will need to buy a hard drive, we recommend that you buy a Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a Hard Disk Drive (HDD). HDDs have moving heads and spinning platters, which makes them more prone to failure, usually after 3 to 5 years of use. Moreover, SSDs boast higher performance and may improve your computer’s experience.
Before you start the replacement process, make sure all your data is properly backed up. Remember to disconnect any telephone cables, USB cables, or networks from your system. Also, unplug the power cord.

My sister's laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 Intel N) turned on with a black screen today that said "Windows Error Recovery, Launch Startup Repair (recommended)". It then goes to the "windows is loading files" screen. After that, the screen that shows a bar with green lines. And finally, it just goes to a blue screen with a wallpaper and a large white cursor. I can't bring up any menus or do anything, and the only way to get out of that is to press and hold the power button. When I boot up again and try the "start windows normally" option, the exact same thing happens.
I tried hitting F12 to go into boot options. I went to Diagnostics and that took me to the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment. All Devices got a green tick except the Hard Drive. With that, I got lots of beeping noises and a message that said "error code validation msg: hard drive 0 - S/N WD-WXE1EB1UUZX4, self test unsuccessful. Status = 7".
What does this mean? My sister's laptop is 9 months old.
Storage, Drives & Media
Remove the failed hard drive and use an USB adaptor similar to THIS , then attach the hard drive to a USB port of a working computer and see if you can transfer the files and folders you need, to the computer.
Note: Only data files and folders can be transferred, any applications, utlities and programs, need to be reinstalled from their CD's, or downloaded from the publisher's website

3. Once installed, launch the application and click on the Bootable Media feature present at the top right corner to make a bootable media drive. Unplug the USB drive once the bootable media drive is ready and plug it into the other computer.
4. When prompted, tap the required key to enter the BIOS menu and select the plugged in USB drive to boot from.
5. In the MiniTool PE Loader screen, click on Partition Wizard at the top of the list. This will launch the main user interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard.
6. Click on Data Recovery in the toolbar.
7. In the following Data Error code 2000-01-42 dell window, select the partition from which data is to be recovered and click on Scan.
8. Select the files you would like to recover and click on the Save button.
Also, save the required files in a separate external hard drive or USB drive.
While we have the MiniTool Partition Wizard open, we can also try to repair the MBR through it. The process is simpler than the first method and only takes a few clicks.
1. Start by selecting the system disk in the Disk Map and then click on the Rebuild MBR option present in the left panel under Check error code 2000-01-42 dell. Daemon tools device setup error on the Apply option at the top of the windows to start rebuilding.
Once the application finishes rebuilding the MBR, perform a surface test to check for any bad sectors on the hard drive platter.
Select the hard drive that you just rebuild the MBR for and click on the Surface test in the left panel, error code 2000-01-42 dell. On the following screen, click on Start Now. It’s likely that the results window will display both green and red squares. Red squares imply that there are a few bad sectors, error code 2000-01-42 dell. To repair them, open Command Console of MiniTool Partition Wizard, type chkdsk/f/r and press enter.
Method 5: Reinstall Windows
If both the above methods failed, you should consider reinstalling windows. It may sound extreme at first but the process is not difficult at all. It can also help when your Windows is misbehaving or running slow. Reinstalling Windows will also correct any corrupt windows files and a corrupt or missing Master Boot Record data.
Before you start the reinstallation process, make sure you have all your important files backed up as reinstalling the OS formats all your existing data.
You will require a PC with a strong internet connection and a USB flash drive with at least 8GB of free space. Follow the steps to do a clean installation of Windows 10 and plug the bootable USB drive in the computer on which you wish to reinstall windows. Boot from the connected USB and follow the on-screen prompts to reinstall Windows.
There is no backup of any type, I need some advice on this subject, because vista ultimate is pritty expensive and you really have to buy another copy of the operating system and install it on your new hard drive

Ask their Dell recovery media.
You cannot use a Toshiba Recovery disk on a Dell computer.
And how could install Vista from avg error 27037 Windows 7 disc anyway!
You can try this IF you know what you are doing:
Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
There are 2 disks of Vista: one for bit operating system, error code 2000-01-42 dell, and one for bit operating system.
If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu autodesk ctrl p error startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either Error code 2000-01-42 dell or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Dell Inspiron won't start. Error - "Bootmgr missing".
Ctrl-alt-del does not work and I don't have the vista boot cd. If I'm doomed?
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

Dell Inspiron 17 - will not start - get hard disk clicking noise
I am able to boot up the laptop to the BIOS (F2) and the laptop passes all diagnostics - I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 Windows about 6 months ago and everything has been great to work - no problem at all. Then a month ago started the problem of loud noise clicking.
Here is my problem laptop > I start pressing the power on button - I can hear the fan start - power and the drive light - but one or two seconds later, the drive LED turns off and it's the disk hard clicking noise starts. I have to then press and hold the power button until the laptop stops. I can hear the stop of the fan and Park disk heads - then all the lights will turn off. Then I have to start this process all over again [sometimes more than 8 to 10 times] until the laptop finally gets up and allows me to connect.
Nobody knows what will fix this problem?

What is error code--c:\windows\ipajahoz.dll
I have a Dell error code 2000-01-42 dell windows xp. What is error code--c:\WINDOWS\sprers.eu?
It is sometimes easy to get rid of the error message by doing something like disable the startup item in msconfig (if you can still find), but I suggest you fix the problem and difficulty not only the symptom of the problem by simply deleting the startup message.
I would also not recommend you start digging in the registry to try to find the startup item and remove it unless you have a backup of runtime error 2115 system or at least a backup of your registry, because there is no 'Cancel' or 'quit without saving changes' option in regedit. If you make a mistake, that's all.
These ideas relieve 'rapid' and sometimes risky of the symptom if they not even work at all, but they can't actually solve the problem. Also, I'd be suspicious of ideas that begin with the words "try." You don't need to try things, error code 2000-01-42 dell need to fix things. You don't need to try ideas that might work, you must do something that will always work all the time.
Here are the detailed instructions that protect you and solve your problem in the 'right' way.
There is very little. DLL files that should be loaded from the C:\WINDOWS folder and is not one of them. If you do not have a good explanation for the name of the file in a Google search, the chances are good that your system is currently or has been infected by malware.
A "Cannot find". ', ' Failed to start, "Could not load" ». "Might not work "" Cannot run ""error loading ". "or"specific module could not be found"message at startup is usually related to the malware that has been configured to run at startup, but the referenced file has been removed after a malware scan, leaving behind him a startup item or the registry entry pointing to a file that does not exist.
It might be a removal of malicious software or an application not installed. The entry may have a curious looking name since it was probably generated at random when the malware was installed. If you search your system for the referenced file, you may not find.
Windows attempts to load this file but cannot locate because the file has been deleted for most probably during an analysis of the malware. However, an orphaned associate of remainders of startup parameter or registry entry and tells Windows to load the file when you start or connection.
So you should delete the referenced entry Windows stop trying to load or run the file. It may or may not be included in the registry, but you can find it. Autoruns (see below) you get the elements no matter where it is.
You must be sure to solve the problem and not just fix the symptom of the problem by simply relieving your message - system is not a fix (there is a difference).
If you just locate and uncheck the item in msconfig, which disables the element but does not remove the reference to the element of false starting your computer. The msconfig program is not a Startup Manager, that's a troubleshooting tool. Disabling things in msconfig to put an end to the messages and think that your problem is solved is short-sighted and leave behind him a sloppy XP configuration. Just disable the display of a start-up error message should not count as a 'solution' to the problem.
If you are comfortable editing the registry, you can find and remove the error code 2000-01-42 dell directly from there or remove it using a popular third-party tool called Autoruns. The problem can always be found in the registry well.
Before making any changes to your registry by hand or with third-party tools, don't forget to error code 2000-01-42 dell make a backup of the registry. There is no cancellation or exit without saving the option in regedit.
Here is a link to a popular registry backup tool:
You can also use the Autoruns to find the element of alcormp invalid device error 20100 remains little matter where he's hiding. Autoruns does not install anything on your computer, error code 2000-01-42 dell. It will display all startup locations where the reference may be then you can turn it off or remove it completely. Here is the download link for Autoruns:
Run sprers.eu and wait that he at the end of the filling of the list of entries.
When the Autoruns is finished scanning your system, it will say "Ready" in the lower left corner. Autoruns can be a little intimidating to first if you have never seen it before because it displays a lot of information. You are really interested only a few sections.
The problem is usually to start the system or the user startup entries, then click the connection tab and see if the startup item is there.
Scroll through the list and look for a boot entry associated files in the error message.
If you can't find on the connection tab, look in any tab.
You can also click file, search to search for logon, or any tab for all or part of the name of the element.
Right-click on the offending entry and choose Remove. If you are not sure what it is, you can simply disable, restart and if the problem is resolved and then remove the offending entry. If you don't see it in Autoruns, you may edit the registry and remove the item from your startup folder it. Autoruns shall display the same information however.
Given that your system has or has had an infection, follow up with this:
Perform scans for malware, and then fix any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
Malwarebytes (MMFA): sprers.eu
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): sprers.eu
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
Restart your computer and solve the outstanding issues.
