How to Override a Canon MP190 Cartridge Chip

The Canon PIXMA MP190 All-in-One Printer prints and copies in black and white or color, and creates color scans of originals up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches in size. Canon designs its ink tanks with integrated computer chips that track the lifespan and performance of these consumables. When one of your MP190's ink tanks triggers an error message, you can reset the unit and continue printing to finish an urgent business document. When your deadlines loom and your supply of ink tanks runs out, this procedure can make the difference between satisfying a client and failing to make a successful impression.

  1. Examine the Alarm and ink lamps below the "+" button near the right edge of the top of the unit. The Alarm lamp at the top signals trouble while the black and color ink lamps below it warn of problems specific to these individual ink tanks.

  2. Check the error code displayed on the MP190's front-panel. If the display sequence reads "E 1 3," the printer can't tell how much ink remains in one or both ink tanks. A sequence that reads "E 1 6" warns you of an empty ink tank.

  3. Press and hold the "Stop/Reset" button for five seconds, telling the printer to override its built-in function for detecting ink levels. The button appears below the Scan button in the same column of lamps and buttons as the Alarm and ink lamps.

How to Troubleshoot a Canon MP190

The Canon PIXMA MP190 is an all-in-one photo printer that prints photos and documents. The Canon MP190 shows an error message that alerts the user to potential problems. An error message shows as an orange light and displays an error code on an LED screen. Following a few basic steps should get the Canon PIXMA MP190 operating smoothly again.

Step 1.

Check the paper input. If the LED shows "E, 2," the machine is either out of paper or the paper will not feed. Correctly load the paper, replace the tray, and press the "Color" or "Black" button to resume printing. If "E, 3" displays, there is either a paper jam or the paper tray is not open properly. Check the printer for a paper jam and clear it, then close and replace the tray. Resume printing.

Step 2.

Check the status of the FINE cartridge, If "E, 4," "E, 5," "E, 7," "E, 1, 4" or "E, 1, 5" displays on the LED, the FINE cartridge is either not set properly or not compatible with the printer. Open the cover and verify that the cartridge is installed correctly. Close the cover and resume printing. If the error still displays, there may be damage to the print head. If "E, 2, 2" displays with a flashing green light, the FINE cartridge is stuck. Turn the machine off. Remove the protective cover before removing the cartridge. Reinstall the cartridge and turn on the machine.

Step 3.

Check the ink absorber. If "E, 8" displays, the ink absorber is nearly full. Clear the error and resume printing by pressing "Black" or "Color." The ink absorber needs to be replaced before the next print batch begins.

Step 4.

Check the ink cartridges. If "E, 1, 3" displays, the ink likely has run out. Pres the "Stop/Reset" button and hold it for five seconds to resume printing. Replace the necessary ink cartridges. If "E, 1, 6" displays, the ink has run dry. Replace the ink cartridge, close the cover and resume printing.

Step 5.

Check the size and placement of the document. If "E, 2, 0" shows on the LED, the document is too small for the printer to detect. Verify the document is correctly placed on the print glass, then resume printing. If this does not correct the problem, then the "Print Head Alignment Sheet" has failed. Connect the printer to a computer and align the print head using the printer driver. Once alignment is complete, resume printing.

Step 6.

Reboot the computer when major error messages appear. If "E, 2, x," "E, 3, x" or "E, 4, x" display, the printer likely will require service. Turn the machine off, remove the power supply from the machine and let it rest for a moment. Reattach the power supply and plug it back in.

Does anyone know a way to clear error E27 (ink absorber full) on Canon MP190? I have cleaned the ink absorber. Turned the printer off and on, using various code-clearing procedures online with no success. E27 always returns.

Below are some steps I have tried with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

*** None of these below have worked for me.....

Press and hold the "Power" button and reconnect the power cord. When the printer comes on, release the button. Wait five seconds and push the "Power" button again. This resets the printer's internal memory and overrides the "Ink Absorber Full" error code.

If your absorber is full, call Canon at 732-521-7230 to order the replacement pads for the ink absorber.

If you do not have access to new ink absorber pads, you can extend the life of your current pads by rinsing them thoroughly and allowing them to dry before reinstalling them.

To replace the pad:

1 Open the printer as though you were going to install new ink cartridges, letting the cartridge cradle move to the center of the printing unit. Unplug the printer so that the cartridges will remain in their position.

2 Locate the waste ink absorbers in their black rubber frame. They will likely be on the right side of your printer, and will be located underneath the area where the ink cartridges rest when the printer is in standby mode.

3 Use a paper napkin or other disposable and absorbent material to soak up any excess ink that may be in the pads by pressing it down onto the top of the frame.

4 Pull the rubber frame free from the printer, wearing gloves to keep your hands clean. Carefully remove the ink absorber pad or pads from the rubber frame.

5 Insert new ink absorber pads firmly into the rubber frame. Replace the rubber frame in its original position and close the printer.

6 Hold down the power button, then plug the printer back in. Continue holding the power button down until the printer begins to reset itself and come online.

7 Wait for the green power light to turn off, then press and release the power button again. It should blink for two to three seconds, then stay lit; this will indicate that the printer has been reset and is ready to print again without errors.

Sorry Bob, I can't go through all your 'suggestions'...
... but this works for my Old Canon S9000 to reset the ink absorber full
message...

1. Turn off power.
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let the
Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let both
buttons go.
5. Green light will flash then stop blinking.
6. When Green light is solid, press Resume button
4 times.
7. Press the power button and the printer should turn off. If not, press
the Power button 1 more time.
8. Done.

Can't do any harm, can it?
