Coolpix lens error - think

Nikon Coolpix S lens error, Fix.

qa-featured

Hello, first of all, I like to say that if you have a purchasing warranty card then please replace it. Because the camera lens guide pin is damaged or out of the track. Happens to the Nikon Coolpix S series.

But before that, you can try those and let me know the result.

Careful batteries are fully charged. Look carefully between the lens. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck. Try removing batteries and memory card wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only. Now turn the camera on and see if working, now fix the memory card and again turn the camera on, if working then fine. Otherwise, format the card and fix it back in the camera again and try. Make sure before format you back up the data. If no luck, then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 secs if not done then press both Menu and self-timer for 4 secs.

How to Deal With Nikon Coolpix Lens Error Problems

Your Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot camera is usually steady and reliable as it delivers stunning images. Sometimes, your Nikon Coolpix or other Nikon camera model may display an error message, indicating that something has gone wrong. Here's a look at common Nikon Coolpix error messages and how to troubleshoot them.

You'll see many of these errors across various models of Nikon cameras.

Cannot Record Movie Error Message

The Cannot Record Movie error message usually means your Nikon camera can't pass the data to the memory card fast enough to record it, so a timeout error occurs. Most of the time, this is a memory card problem. The card could be corrupted or incompatible with your camera. To solve the issue, use a memory card with a faster write speed.

File Does Not Contain Image Data Error Message

There are a few reasons why you might receive this error:

Incompatible Memory Card

When you use an incompatible memory card, the camera could have trouble writing to the card, causing corrupt image files. Consult the owner's manual to learn what memory cards are compatible with your camera. In some cases, you may lose pictures because of this incompatibility.

Changing Rotation on the Computer

If you receive the File Does Not Contain Image Data error message after viewing some files on your computer, the problem could be that you rotated or edited images on the computer and then tried to view them on your camera. In these cases, you probably didn't lose any pictures; you just can't view them on the camera.

Sharing the Memory Card

Some Nikon users report that if they use their memory card in another device and then insert it into their camera, they receive the File Does Not Contain Image Data error message. In these cases, going back a few pictures seems to solve the problem.

Corruption

You may have either a corrupted memory card or a corrupted photo file. If you don't have a backup, you may lose the corrupted photo or, in the case of a corrupted memory card, all the photos on the card.

Image Cannot Be Saved Error Message

There are a couple of culprits behind this message.

Memory Card Issues

The memory card is once again an error message suspect. In the case of the Image Cannot Be Saved error, the memory card may be malfunctioning, or it might have been formatted in a camera that's incompatible with your Nikon model. In this case, reformat the memory card, which will erase all its data, or use a new memory card.

File Numbering System

The Image Cannot Be Saved error message might also refer to a problem with the camera's file-numbering system. Look through the camera's settings menu to either reset or turn off the sequential photo file-numbering system.

You've Run Out of Room

You might also receive the Image Cannot Be Saved error if your memory card has run out of room and there isn't enough space to save your image. Delete unwanted pictures and then save your image again.

Lens Error Message

The Lens Error message is common with point-and-shoot Nikon cameras. It means that a lens housing can't open or close properly.

Obstructions

With a Lens Error message, something could be stopping the lens from opening or closing. Make sure the lens housing doesn't have any foreign particles or grime on it that could cause problems. Sand is a common culprit in cases of a jammed lens housing. Make sure no obvious obstruction is in the way.

Battery

Another cause of the Lens Error message is a low or dead camera battery. Make sure you have a fully charged battery, and then see if this solves the problem.

If neither of these issues seems to be the problem, have your camera looked at by a Nikon Authorized Service facility. Always take care when choosing a camera repair center.

No Memory Card Error Message

There are a few reasons why your camera doesn't recognize the memory card and returns the No Memory Card error.

Card Compatibility

Use a memory card that's compatible with your Nikon camera. Incompatible memory cards can cause all sorts of problems.

Full Card

The memory card may be full, so download photos to your computer to free up space.

Malfunctions

The memory might be malfunctioning, or it may have been formatted with a different camera. If this is the case, reformat the memory card with this camera. Formatting a memory card erases all its data.

System Error Message

While seeing the System Error message may be worrisome, the problem isn't complicated. The System Error message is a general error message that could be caused by several things. Here are some simple troubleshooting steps to try:

Battery

The battery might be causing a problem. Remove the battery and memory card from the camera for at least 15 minutes, which should allow the camera to reset itself. See if this solves the problem.

Firmware Updates

If resetting the camera doesn't work, make sure you have the latest firmware and drivers for your camera model. Go to the Nikon Download Center and enter your camera's model, and then download and install any updates you find.

Malfunctioning Memory Card

Another error could be caused by a malfunctioning or wrongly formatted memory card. Replace the card and see if the error goes away.

No Error Message, But Camera Isn't Working

Sometimes, a camera doesn't display an error message when it isn't working properly. In this case, reset the camera by removing the battery and memory card for at least 10 minutes. Reinsert these items, then see if the camera works again.

Different Nikon camera models' error messages may differ. If you receive an error that isn't listed here, check the camera manual for help on errors specific to your model.

A mechanical impact to the lens unit caused by shock, pressure or blocking the lens movement can result in damage to its mechanical parts. This can cause further damage to the integrated motors or drives. In such cases, the camera will display the error message 'LENS ERROR'.

You can turn the camera off and on, and remove the battery. For more information check this solution from the Nikon, sprers.eumged=1&lang=en_GB

how do I fix a "lens error" on nikon coolpix ?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this same identical problem happened to me 2 years ago with my CoolPix I did a lot of research and found that there was a design flaw in the construction of the that allowed for a gear to be broken whenever the lens is put in a bind. Mine apparently happened when I left the battery in and put the camera in a bag, and the power button got turned on, causing the lens to try to extend but there wasn't enough room in the bag, and after that it gave the "lens error" message.

I also found when I did the research that there were A LOT of Coolpix owners who had experienced the same thing. Nikon would not stand behind the product either, and was requiring owners to foot the bill for the repairs, which amounted to more than the camera was worth.

I was very disappointed with what I found, and decided to scrap all my Nikon products (I had previously been a HUGE Nikon fan). I had spent over $ on the and couldn't believe I had ended up with an absolutely useless product with no recourse.

I gave it to a friend a few months ago and told her if she could do something with it, she could have it. She took it to a camera store and they examined it, and backed up what I'd found on the internet about the cause of the problem - and that it's not worth spending the $$ to fix it. :(

I ended up having to buy a new camera - and this time I went with the Canon Digital Rebel XT - I've been very pleased with every feature of this camera, and it takes better pictures than the ever thought about taking. They've really come down in price by now too, which is an added plus. If you do buy one, just buy the body - don't spend the extra on the kit lens which is a very low quality lens that doesn't produce a quality photo. Go ahead and spend $ or $ more on a decent zoom lens, and you'll be very pleased with the results.

I'm sorry I couldn't give you better news. If you find out something better (i.e., Nikon will now stand behind its product and fix it!), I'd love to know as I still have it stuck in a camera bag and have nothing I can do with it.
