Cd error 3 toyota - think

Hi everyone,

First time poster here. I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris Sedan. I'm located in Canada. My CD player has two CDs in it at the moment and it will not eject them. If I try to play them, I get an "ERROR 3" message. It will not load CDs either. The radio works fine and these are real CDs, not burned ones.

I took it to my dealership and they looked at it for 30 seconds and said "Uhh...you need a new stereo, go buy an aftermarket one." I'm positive that the discs are just jammed as I heard a noise when they were loaded that indicated that they were not properly in place.

I then visited a repair/retail electronics store and they said that they don't like to look at factory stereos and they would be happy to sell me a new one. How can I get my CDs out? I just want them to eject. I had this problem in the past about a year ago, but it was short lived as I drove over a pothole and the bump was enough to dislodge the CD. The stereo has worked fine since.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Error 3 on my CD changer...

Last month I bought a 2002 SC430 in Chicago. Found out driving back to Michigan that I had error code 3 also. I tried all the past suggestions, to no avail. I pulled the unit out last week, took it apart, and found out that 2 of the 6 plastic cd trays had jumped out of one of two guide pins that keep the 6 trays moving smoothly up and down. I had to take 3 pieces of bare wire to unhook and hold in place 3 springs. I then took off the metal top tray, pulled all 6 plastic trays out, and then placed them back the way they were designed. I am thrilled to say that it works perfectly now. I cannot understand how these 2 trays could have possible jumped off the guide pin without someone going in through the cd entry slot and going nuts with some kind of make-shift tool. I got a very good price for the car, maybe it was lowered because of the jacked up cd player, but maybe it'd my fault for not trying the cd player out before I made the purchase. In any event, fixing an error code 3 might not always be easy.

Angry'04 6 CD Changer: Error 3

So I'm curising along listening to the radio and decide that I want to listen to the CD's in the player. I switch over and I get "Error 3" blinking on the head unit. What the heck!!!!

Specs on my CD changer:
  • Is a 6 disc in dash changer; is not aftermarket; bought with the truck from the dealer lot
  • The unit is in a 2004 V8 Limited 4Runner
  • I have never tried to take the head unit out of the dash
  • The CD changer is/was fully loaded with 6 discs when this error occurred
  • The CD changer was working fine the day before because I was listening to a CD
  • Most if not all the CD's in the changer are burned CD's
  • Looked at the users manual for "error 3" and it says that CD's are misaligned or something of the sort. The solution according to the manual is to eject the CD's and re-insert them. Problem is that I can't eject/play or do anything with the CD's because all I getis the flashing "error 3" on the display.

What do I do? The vehicle is still under warranty. Should I take it back to the dealer? Is this something I can fix myself? Should I simply disconnect the battery to see if the error goes away?

TIA!!!!

I think someone on here received a 6disc scion unit that had that same error. I'm not sure you have any other option than taking it into the dealership, especially if you have it under warranty.

You can try unplugging the battery for about 15minutes to reset it, but who knows if that will do any good. Probably worth a shot though. good luck.

Okay, so I actually feel a little better that I'm not the only one with this problem. I had this happen to me about a month ago on a very similar car: 2004 V8 Limited with the 6 disk in dash JBL changer. I don

frankeyss, you said you ordered a nav system. Did you have to pay full price or did you pay the difference between the regular radio and the nav system?

Thanks!
Sorry for the confusion, but I had ordered another radio right around the time this one died from oemvalue. (Ordered the solara nav system).

if it's still under warranty take it back to the dealer...the same thing happened to me about 6 months after having my '03 4runner, but after a day all of the cd's would eject, but they wouldn't play...toyota replaced my 6 disc in dash changer for free...there is something int he owner's manual warning about using burned cd's though...just an fyi...

What a coincidence? I posted this sometime last week and on Friday I got the dreaded ERROR 3 msg while driving home from work...This time none of my CD's would eject! I brought it Toyota today to see if it would still be covered under warranty (I have 37k miles on my '03 Limited)...The service consultant said that they'd take a look and see what they can do...I got a phone call this afternoon that said they couldn't salvage any of the CD's but will replace the 6 disc HU as a good will gesture even though i'm past my warranty period of 36k miles! Just another reason why I've only driven Toyotas and I'm sticking with Toyota for awhile...It'll take 3 to 5 days to order a new HU, but it's free so I'm not complaining...I can't believe I'm going to be on my 3rd HU...

How to Remove Stuck CDs From Toyota CD Players

Toyota features a wide line of compact cars, sedans and SUVs, most of which offer stock CD players with top technologies from the manufacturers. While these players offer a number of capabilities, they are prone getting CDs stuck within the disc slot. If your CDs get stuck, you can remove them without ruining your disc or your CD player in just minutes and have your player ready to use right away.

Step 1

Turn your car on and press and hold the eject button on your car's CD player. This will allow you to try to force the disc out of the player. Hold the button for up to a couple minutes to see if the ejecting process can pick up the disc.

Step 2

Press and hold the power button at the same time as the eject button. This will power the player on and off and will hopefully activate the ejection system.

Step 3

Press and hold the reset button on the front of the CD player. This button is often a small black indentation that must be pressed with a pen or a pin, and will reset the settings and force eject the disc.

Step 4

Press and hold the eject button as you force an extra disc into the CD player slot, underneath the stuck CD. This will force the stuck disc up into the ejecting track as the player is trying to push it out.

Sweet, fixed my CD changer Error 3!

I had this crop up in like <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/975732.phtml">2006</a> but was unwilling to pull apart the deck at the time, and I had my iPod and Dension to keep me happy.

I wanted to play a disc someone gave me, and it finally pissed me off enough tonight to tackle it. Pulled out the deck, took off the two screws on the top cover, slit the scary "WARRANTY VOID" sticker, and popped off the top cover. Looked down, could see that CDs were out of alignment with the spindle in the centre. Took a screwdriver and forced them back into alignment, heard a nice satisfying click as they all dropped into place, and plugged it back in.

Power on, and hit CD. Everything lit up properly, and happiness ensued as I managed to eject all the CDs. Been popping them in and out of all slots to test it, and all seems well now.

Culprit, CD with a label that peeled in the heat and prevented another disc from moving. Misalignment, grinding, Error 3. I've had this problem for a year and a half, and it was a 15 minute fix in the end.

Very happy now

Probably worth a shot though. good luck.

frankeyss, you said you ordered a nav system. Did you have to pay full price or did you pay the difference between the regular radio and the nav system?

Thanks!
Sorry for the confusion, but I had ordered another radio right around the time this one died from oemvalue. (Ordered the solara nav system).

if it's still under warranty take it back to the dealer.the same thing happened to me about 6 months after having my '03 4runner, but after a day all of the cd's would eject, but they wouldn't play.toyota replaced my 6 disc in dash changer for free.there is something int he owner's manual warning about using burned cd's though.just an fyi.

What a coincidence? I posted this sometime last week and on Friday I got the dreaded ERROR 3 msg while driving home cd error 3 toyota work. This time none of my CD's would eject! I brought it Toyota today to see if it would still be covered under warranty (I have 37k miles on my '03 Limited). The service consultant said that they'd take a look and see what they can do.I got a phone call this afternoon that said they couldn't salvage any of the CD's but will replace the 6 disc HU as a good will gesture even though i'm past my warranty period of 36k miles! Just another reason why I've only driven Toyotas and I'm sticking with Toyota for awhile. It'll take 3 to 5 days to order a new HU, but it's free so I'm not complaining.I can't believe I'm going to be on my 3rd HU.
