    Could be.

But could also be dirty laser, dying laser, the software glitched ... any number of possible errors here.

I may be wrong but have you checked "Buffer Underrun Prevention" in "recorder settings". It could simply be because your HD is unable to send data fast enough to the recorder. It's worth one more coaster just to try.

I know for sure that this brand is crappy cause I tried buring an image to disk utility, Toast 6.0.5, dragon burn, and the DVD-R just keeps coming out.

OPTODISC normally, really not a bad DVD, no better or worse than RITEK.

I started to have this same problem with Memorex DVD-R 4x discs.
I found a way for toast to burn these bad discs. I manually sellect 4x in the burn speed box (instead of BEST) and try to burn. This usually works ... if that does not try a lower burn speed to, 2x. And if for some reason this fails burn at 1x. Out of 26 bad disc this trick has worked for all but 3 discs.

My 1.25 GHz PB G4 burns 1-2x and 1-4x TDK DVD-R just fine.

But 1-8x TDK DVD-R only very occasionally burns and i get a power calibration error instead. I'll try to burn my batch of 10 such disks with reduced speed or via a disk image, if that helps. I hope I can get 1-2 or 1-4 disks in the future. I'm also planning to try a batch of Ritek.

Me too. I have had disks which burn fine using the painfully slow drag-drop-trash method built into OS X but then produce this error when using Toast.

This started happening to me the moment I upgraded to Tiger. I havent tried version 6.1 yet as I just learned of its existence two minutes ago.

Toast is working fine for me in Tiger with 6.1 Medium errors are the media unless your drive is going out. There is a good chance the Tiger upgrade caused corruption if a clean install was done. I had 2 kernel panics upgrading my system to Tiger.

I would only use Verbatim media for DL, also update the firmware. Pioneer keeps fixing media issues.

I use Verbatim media for DL (the Staples by my apartment also sells Memorex DVD+R DL but the Verbatim is slightly cheaper). I now use Sony DVD+R as I cant find my favorite TDK anywhere now. These same two brands burned just find the day before I installed Tiger. My burner is one of the new dual layer burners for Powerbooks that you can get from MCE Technologies. I went to their site looking for any firmware upgrade but saw nothing. For now, all DVD+R DL burning is on hold until I figure something out.

I did a clean install as this should be the best way of upgrading OS X .. I'm not yet ready to wipe the drive and do it over.

I have found (with my lowly 1x SuperDrive) that it is notoriously picky about the media it chooses to accept.

The no-name stuff I pick up locally just gets ejected and is relagated to my ThinkPad burner. I've never had any trouble with with Apple branded DVDs but we all know how much they cost. A colleague uses StarMedia which has shown excellent compatibility at work but I don't know what the cost is like. I've been using Princo with fairly good success. Only 3 coasters out of a batch of 100 and I'm on my second spindle now.

if you are still using a 1x or 2x Pioneer superdrive
( or some other) burner, I'd high ly reccommend
since TDK media is now firmly entrenched at 8x speed,
to switch over to Samsung BeAll media, which you
can find at meritline.com, shop4tech.com, and
    allmediaoutlet.com.

We still buy these for our G4 machines at work
that have A03 and a04's, and they work great.
    25 for $20 bucks, never a coaster.

Would you recommend TDK (TTG02) for 8x media? I'm trying to decide which 8x media to bring back from the mainland in a few weeks. Prices here for higher quality media are high and shipping rates are outrageous (except for 4x RiData I've bought from Amazon).

Oh, I thought Princo was generally considered low quality (e.g. poor shelf life)?

A Medium Error is in reference to the media used (i.e. a problem with he disk). However, there are lots of things that can go wrong with the media which is what the 'sense code' refers to. 0x73, 0x03 is to do with laser power calibration.

Every disk brand and type uses different power ranges for the laser and it is down to all sorts of reasons (even the dye used on the disk affects it). Therefore, every disk manufacturer incorporates a section of the disk that the drive reads before any burning takes place. That effectively calibrates the drive's laser for the specific media being used and it does this before writing the lead-in.

Lots of people are suggesting changing the media to rectify the issue but, while this might prove successful because every disk uses different ranges of power, it isn't really solving the problem.

This is a VERY common problem with the Matshita drives Apple choose to use and I have come across it regularly myself which is why I have looked into it. I am no great expert on the subject and am merely stating what I have so far discovered for myself.

There are lots of threads on this topic and people seem to suggest numerous solutions. However, be careful because, as I pointed out earlier, there are lots of things that can go wrong with media and that is what the sense codes are for. So what might work for one sense code does not mean it will work for another, even if they are close.

I do have a few suggestions though. the sense code 0x73 0x03 is basically down to 4 variables, the laser, the power to the laser, the thing controlling the power and the media.

So, use a media you know should work (i.e. one that always has for you in the past). Clean your laser and your drive thoroughly. Check your RAM and if there is anything fishy you should replace it. Reset the PRAM (Shut down then reboot holding Command-Option-P-R altogether until you hear the startup noise for the second time). Finally, and perhaps the most straightforward suggestion, try a different PSU/Battery. Apple power supplies can be dodgy and this has worked for external drives with the same troubles.

However, I am no expert so someone who knows more about drives might have some other ideas.

  • Satellite A60: Powersaver won't start no-error 0x7E

  • Satellite 1800-100 won't start with new memory

My satellite s1800-100 won't start although my new memory (2nd) module is 128 MB PC100.

I have Samsung samsung K4S281632C-TC1H module as PC100 (128 MB) memory on SLOT 1 by default.

Although all of the features and form factors are clean, why not my Satellite S1800-100 starts? I checked the new (slot 2) memory works fine and tested OK.

So, is there as a possibility to have a problem in the 2 Slot? Or is associated with failure of the BIOS? (there is no more recent BIOS, current is 2.20 for Satellite S1800-100).

I am disappointed. I bought a new 128 MB PC100, to insert it in the slot 2, my Toshiba didn't boou up!.

Important note: if I connect the new memory I bought yesterday, works very well in Slot 1.

    Please help and understanding.

    Kind regards...

    Hello

Well, it very difficult to say why it won't start.
I think that there are several possibilities:

(1.) you used a bad module
(2.) the second Bank of the Board of Directors has a malfunction
(3.) the laptop does not support max 256 MB of RAM

I think that point 1 and 3 is not relevant because you have tested the module and it worked on the first location. Additional the laptop should be able to handle 2 x 256 MB memory, so you should be able to use 2 x 128 MB

I think that the second ram location may have a malfunction.
Please check the second slot with a module of memory.

The second possibility is to use exactly the module which is recommended by Toshiba.
    As I remember it s PC100 128 MB (PA3005U) SDRAM

My SP2100 began to have feeding problems and now won't start at all. The AC adapter green LED is lit, that are relevant lights on the body of the laptop (although the "battery charge" light always orange these days). When I try the switch on, startup begins (in fact succeeded on occasion until this morning), however the battery indicator and the adapter lights are flashing, and everything stops again.

On the rare occasions when I'll be past this stage, lights blinking, and the system soon shuts down again with a screen message "low battery." Until this morning, he would sometimes settle, the computer remained on, and the lights showed a State of equilibrium as usual.

Initially I thought that the problem was of course the battery or the AC adapter, but now I'm starting to think that it is with internal PSU of the laptop (although I suspect the battery is probably tour after all this part of loading and unloading).

  • Satellite A500 - Windows won't start, how to get back now?

    Hello guys,.

Recently, a week, I bought a new Satellite A500 - 1HK. I installed everything and after I installed Office 2007, after restarting my PC put on the Windows 7 Logo. PLS, please note that at this time one had a connected external HARD disk. It was my first mistake.

My second mistake was that after 5 minutes of inactivity, I turned off my PC (no closures) and that's it. My PC has crashed completely.

My third mistake was that I did not since the recovery disks, and unfortunately I don't have the recovery CD. The recovery program his on a partition separate from my laptop. I tried to solve the problem as follows: I start the PC, press F8 and I went into the repair menu. The first time after the repair, nothing had happened. After that, I tried to go to the recovery option. I choose the American language and press ENTER. Nothing had happened. the screen displays an error saying: you must login to access the System Recovery Options. If you encounter problems to connect, contact your administrator to the computer for help. Click ok to restart the computer.

The only thing I can imagine is that the recovery partition crashed also. What can I do now? I ordered alrweady the Toshiba restore CD and waits for the next 2 weeks.
What is your opinion. That's happened? I hope that the rexcovery program will work with CD and I don't face any problem, no more.

    Thank you.

    Hey Buddy,

    > I have ordered alrweady the Toshiba Recovery CD
So in my opinion, your question is already answered. Juice wait the Toshiba Recovery disk to restore to factory settings.

If work HDD recovery doesn't, your only option is the Toshiba recovery disc and now it s time to wait. I m you will get the disk as soon as possible.

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite A15-S129 won't start CD - message NTLDR missing

I decided to do a new installation on my Satellite A15-S129 neighbors. After trying all sorts of ways, I decided to remove the hard drive and reformat my computer. When I put in the satellite, I expected to boot from the cd since the hard drive was empty, but no, I get the "missing ntldr message.

The Bios does not have the cursor move on the part where I could change the boot order. When I start the computer, I can't press f2 or f12 to change the boot order.

After no luck I just started doing all sorts of things to solve problems. A: I notice if I remove the hard drive and let the empty slot, I get error IDE, and then SURPRISE!
The boot goes to the Conference on disarmament, BUT just at the point where I thought I could just install, I get the screen that says lack of hard drive, even though I pressed and push the HDD.

Why the computer insists on the conduct of one thing: starting from windows xp, even if the disk is the Bank.

Why I can't, or rather, how can he blow up the hard drive and move to the cd drive?

I've never been stumpted like this before! Please help, my neighbour will have my head!

    Hello

It seems that the HARD drive is ok because you were able to access it from another computer.

But a question; How connect you and format the HARD drive internal on another computer?

But to the A15 motorway. It s very strange that you are not able to access the BIOS and that it of not possible to change the boot order. nor by the F2 or F12 key.
But wait this BIOS has been installed on this laptop? Phoenix BIOS or Toshiba?
To access the Phoenix BIOS you need to press "F2", but to access the Toshiba BIOS, you must press ESC then F1.

In any case, due to your description, I guess the hardware malfunction causes this problem.
Maybe a problem of controller, HARD drive or other tiny part of the motherboard does not work

I think that the technician should take a look on this laptop, and maybe he'll find the source of error.

  • Satellite p205-s8811 won't start normally or in safe mode just automatically get a black screen

I started my computer and start the recovery window came. I ran it and it has to solve the problem and computer ran very well. I stopped him and 6 hours more later powered on and the same thing. Startup recovery ran and solved the problem again.  When I looked in the log recovery startup errors he says that there are changes not specified for the configuration of the system. So I decied to do a system restore. The system restore ran, off, rebooted computer and when to start the toshiba system came on the screen. Then went black and never started window. For hard drive light was illuminated as normal, then slowed down, would be possible, and eventually it would flicker just a little more. The screen is black, but you can see the cursor. I pressed the switch to turn on, turn off, wait a little bit. Then turned on and got the screen to start normally, safe mode, safemode promt, European round table. I chose safe mode and it and all the config system starts to roll across the screen, then screen turned black and nothing else happened. So I tried again and chose to start windows normally, but the same thing. Toshiba comes through screen\, hard disk, running, but nothing but a black screen. I don't know if I app\drivers and recovery discs and don't know if it's even the fix. I could really use some help with this. I "ve been out of work for six months due to motorcycle wreck and do not have the funds for the nine. Plese I want to know if it's fixable. Thank you

    Hello

    Method 1:

Access the link below and try to perform a startup repair, which could help us solve the problem.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/925810

    Method 2:

If the problem persists after you complete the Startup Repair, try to perform a system restore.

    un) Insert the installation disc.

    Note

The computer must be configured to start from a CD or a DVD. For more information on the configuration of the computer to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer.

    (b) restart the computer. To do this, click Start, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    Note

If you cannot restart the computer by using this method, use the power button to turn off the computer. Then, turn the computer back on.

    (c) set your preferred language and then click Next.

    Note

In most cases, the Startup Repair process starts automatically, and you do not have to select in the System Recovery Options menu.

    (d) click on repair your computer.

    (e) in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

    (f) in the System Recovery Options menu, click System Restore.

    (g) in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

    (h) in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    (i) click Finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

To me, that looks like a medium (disc) error. You might want to try to force wodim to burn at a slower speed, as a test. Wodim will go to the slowest supported speed if you pass speed=0 to it.

    Cheers,
    Nathan Zachary

I know it's probably a stupid question, but have you tried a few discs to make sure that it's not just a bad one?

It's odd because it looks like wodim is using the correct driver, a relatively slow speed, and yet it still finds a medium error. It really does seem like bad discs, but that is unlikely given that you've tried several.

Can you try passing -v and -V to wodim to see if we can get some more information about the "writing" process (-v), and the underlying SCSI transport (-V)?

    SwordArMor,

    Code:
Errno: 5 (Input/output error), send opc scsi sendcmd: no error
    may be permissions.

What does the group command return.
You need to be in the cdrom group to write CDs.

    What does ls -l /dev/sg* show ?

    Code:
     $ ls -l /dev/sg?
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 0 May 12  2013 /dev/sg0
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 1 May 12  2013 /dev/sg1
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 2 May 12  2013 /dev/sg2
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 3 May 12  2013 /dev/sg3
    crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 4 May 12  2013 /dev/sg4
    crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 5 May 12  2013 /dev/sg5
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 6 May 12  2013 /dev/sg6
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 7 May 12  2013 /dev/sg7
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 8 May 12  2013 /dev/sg8
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 9 May 12  2013 /dev/sg9

The /dev/sg* nohes belonging the the optical drives are used to send commands to the drive. The data is sent through /dev/sr0, which is a block device.

Thanks for the output. Let's try a couple things here:

    1. Right before attempting to burn, make sure that the disc isn't somehow mounted automagically:

    2. Specify a burning mode of SAO:

    Code:

    wodim -vv -sao dev=/dev/sr0 /home/alarig/distribs/gentoo-install-amd64-minimal-20141016.iso

    3. If you still don't get a successful burn, please post the output of the above command, and also this one:

    Code:

    wodim dev=/dev/sr0 -checkdrive

    Cheers,
    Zach

    The drive isn’t mounted:
    Code:
    airmure ~ # umount /dev/sr0
    umount: /dev/sr0 : non monté

It is incompatible with the Sierra of HP scanning.

Applications > file HP travel HP Scan to the trash, then empty the trash.

Download and install HP Easy Scan instead, it will be installed in the Applications folder:

Hi, I have the following problem: I burn a Cd with Ubuntu 10.04 and when I turn on the live cd pops up the following error: error_code 0 x73/0x80. Does anyone else have any idea how to deal with this?

    Intel Celeron D 325 2533 MHz

Ram 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
    BIOS Type AMI (06/10/2004)
    Video Card: WinFast A340 128MB

When you try to install pops up this error: 0 work_notifysig x13/0x1b.

    Sorry for my English.

How did you "turn on the live cd"??

You have to burn an iso image of the CD.
You then have to set the computer's BIOS to boot from the cdrom drive as the first boot device.
The first thing you should always do when booting from the Ubuntu CD is to first run the option "check disk for defects" and let that run. If it passes without any errors, then the CD is good.
If you are burning the CD from a Windows system, you should use Iso Recorder or Infra Recorder:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
And be sure to burn the CD at the slowest possible speed.
I would suggest burning a new CD at the slowest possible speed using ISo Recorder or Infra Recorder. Then boot from the CD and check the CD for defects. Then try to install Ubuntu.
Write back if you need more help.

And welcome to the Ubuntu forums!!

    Thank you for your welcome.

I burned the CD using Brasero. He recorded a speed of 2x. I checked the checksum, and it turned out that he agreed, so the picture is well recorded. When trying to select the "check media in order to find mistakes" again comes to the same error: error_code 0 x73/0x80. I thought she might try to install ubuntu with alternate installation. We'll see what happens.

    Edit :

However, an alternative installation did not help. This time by selecting "install" installation stops at "verifying network equipment." I waited about 3 minutes, then jumped me as always. But this time I was armed with pictures of the screen. Sorry for the quality.

When trying to select the "check media in order to find mistakes" again comes to the same error: error_code 0 x73/0x80.
Do you mean that, when you booted the Ubuntu live CD, you ran the option "check disc for defects, and you got that error: error_code 0 x73/0x80??
If this is what you mean, then this should not happen. It should run through a check of every file on the CD and report if there are any errors. It takes a minute or 2 to run.
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a valid CD. Try burning a new CD and see if you can then run the "check CD for defects" check when you boot the live (or alternate) CD.
You might also try downloading the Ubuntu iso from a different a different mirror, just to rule out a bad download.

Yes, when I select "check errors Live CD" pops up this error. The same is true if I select "test". When you choose to install it receives this error: 0 work_notifysig x13/0x1b. The cd is ok, because the checksums are correct, and I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a notebook from it.

The CD can not be considered "ok" if the check disc for defects check will not pass. It is possible for the CD md5sum to pass even though 1 or more files on the CD may be corrupt. I have had this happen to me.
If many files on the CD are corrupt, then the md5sum check will not pass. If only 1 or 2 (or possibly a few more) files are corrupt, the md5sum may still pass even though a few files on the CD are bad.
Note that it is possible to install *buntu from a CD with 1 bad file. I managed to install Lubuntu beta on my laptop even though 1 file was corrupt. I would not recommend this though.
I have tried googleing: ubuntu install +error_code+0x73/0x80
There is one report that says it *may* be video related:
    http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1392395
If this is the case, then installing from the alternate (text based) install CD should avoid this, since it sidesteps graphics related problems.
Another report suggests the CD may be bad:
    http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1471681
I have not found any other info on this error. I have tried searching to try to help you.
I would strongly suggest burning another CD. If you are burning the CD from Ubuntu, you may want to try installing Gnomebaker, or even K3B, if Brasero is unable to create a valid CD. Note that installing K3B will require you to install all of the KDE dependencies; but K3B is the best CD burning app in the linux world imo.
I burn all my linux install CDs using cdrecord from the terminal on Slackware, so I can not say how reliable Brasero or Gnomebaker are for burning iso images these days.
When I did try burning iso image CDs using Gnomebaker or Brasero from Ubuntu in the past, I would sometimes get a bad burn. I have rarely if ever, had a bad burn with K3B on Slackware.

    Hi,

I suggested to http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1392395, where I read that someone has set that image was reproduced from the motherboard.
Since I am "green" in these cases entered in the bios, I went to Advanced> and then came to the option of "chipsed configuration" and was set by default AGP> PCI?> Motherboard. So I switched to Motherboard> PCI?> AGP. Then I chose the option to save & reset. It turns out that the LED on the monitor is orange all the time, which is at rest. I hear a single sound which means that everything is ok, but the screen is idle. By this, I can not enter the BIOS and restore default settings. Please, quick help.

Okay, reset the bios on the motherboard via a jumper CLRCMOS. But it still did not solve my problem. Now try to record a CD using GnomeBaker.

    Hi,
But the problem does not lie with the CD. The image burnt on Verbatim disc, using the previously mentioned programs. And again there is the same problem. The alternative version of the error occurs during the "check network hardware", and the desktop version when selecting "Live CD mode" and "Checking CD read errors." I have no idea of what to do next, and much depends on my ubuntu 10.04. I would add that currently I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and is all about testing for downloaded from the internet version 9.04 and the same error in version 10.04.

    Hi,
I already know the cause of the problem. It is a AGP card. When it was disconnected ubuntu 10.04 installed without any problem. I've updated it, turned on the NVIDIA proprietary driver, then switched back to the AGP card. And what is it? Again the same error. Has anyone any idea? This may be a BIOS fault?

So your motherboard has integrated video, plus you have a nvidia AGP card, is that correct?
    What nvidia card is this?
As for the BIOS, I would think that if you are using the AGP card, then that BIOS option should be set to AGP.
If you install Ubuntu 8.04, or use the 8.04 live CD with the nvidia card, do you get this error? Is it possible the nvidia card is defective?

Since you had previously said you successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 on your laptop, can you at least boot up the 10.04 live CD on the laptop and run the option "check disc for defects" on the laptop. If the disc check passes on the laptop, then at least we know that the CD is good. If the disc check fails on the laptop, then the CD is unreliable.
If I can find out anything else about this error, I will post back.

    Hi,
Yes, the motherboard has integrated graphics, plus my AGP card. It is a GeForce 5200 (Leadtek WinFast A340). Currently, the BIOS is set to the order of the AGP> PCI> Motherboard graphics. At installation time switched on motherboard> AGP> PCI and installation went without any problems. When switched on the motherboard graphics could "check for errors in the media" and showed that the CD is fine. I tested Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD and everything works, like the older versions. The problems begin with the version 9.04 and later. But when I switch on the motherboard graphics Live CD and installation is in order. The graphics card is certainly functional. I think that there is a conflict between Ubuntu 10.04 and my graphics card. This may create problems bios?

Ubuntu will not cause any problems with your BIOS. An improper BIOS setting could cause problems for Ubuntu though, or for any OS for that matter.
Since you verified that the CD is good, and since you can install Ubuntu 10.04 with the integrated graphics, try this:
    1. Install Ubuntu 10.04 using the integrated graphics. Then boot into the installed Ubuntu using the integrated graphics.
    2. Edit the /etc/default/grub file. Find the line:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
In between the quotes "" at the end of the line:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
Put nomodeset in between the quotes so it looks like this:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"
Save and exit the file. Then run:

    sudo update-grub
    Reference for editing /etc/default/grub: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#grub%20%28/etc/default/grub%29
Then install the nvidia AGP card and then try booting into the installed Ubuntu using the nvidia card.
This guy in post #2 of this thread reports that his nvidia 5200 card would only boot with the live CD with the nomodeset option:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1442625
Then (assuming you can get to the Ubuntu desktop with the nvidia card) install the nvidia-173 driver:

    sudo apt-get install nvidia-173 nvidia-settings
    sudo nvidia-xconfig

    Then reboot.
The nvidia-173 driver supports your 5200:
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/nvidia-173
I really hope this gets us somewhere!

    Hi,

I used to advise You. I installed ubuntu from scratch, then edited the grub file, added the "nomodeset", write down the file and upgraded grub. I put the graphics card to the pc. Switched to the AGP> PCI> Motherboard Graphics and reset the pc. It turns out that once you receive the same error. Ubuntu and my card is probably interfere with each other. I do not know what to do.

    Crap!!!

Ok, it seems that nomodeset has been rendered obsolete by recent Ubuntu updates. I was hoping it work for you from a fresh install of 10.04.
If you see post #6 from the thread I linked to in my last post:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1442625
it seems that the correct format is:

    yourchipsetname.modeset=0
Do you know what motherboard your computer has? And what chipset does the motherboard use?
What make and model computer do you have? If you built the computer yourself, what motherboard is in the computer?
If you do not know the chipset on your motherboard, run the command:
lspci in the terminal and post the output here.
With the chipset of your motherboard we can (hopefully) edit the /etc/default grub file, and put the correct option in the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" that will get your Ubuntu 10.04 to boot with the nvidia 5200.

So based on the info from post #6 in the thread I linked to in my last post:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1442625
You would edit the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" line of /etc/default/ grub and place: i865.modeset=0 in between the quotes at the end of that line, so it looks like this:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i865.modeset=0"
Then try to reboot into the installed Ubuntu 10.04 with the nvidia card and see if it will work.
This is of course after installing 10.04 using the integrated graphics as I discussed in my last post.
If this does not work I am not sure what else to try.

    Hi,

This code does not help. Again the same error pops up, and once jumped out a bug with the game port. I do not know if it's not my fault, because my motherboard is equipped with two bridges: Northbridge: Intel Morgan Hill i865GV and Southbridge: Intel 82801EB ICH5. And I gave only one. Maybe something will help you exactly how to print parts of my pc.

I don't know if this will help, but if you are getting errors about the game port then I would try disabling the game port in the BIOS.

Try using i865GV in between the quotes at the end of the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" in the /etc/default/grub file.
Also, post the output of lspci in the terminal.

Your motherboard has integrated Intel graphics:
    http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?Model=P4i65GV

I am about out of ideas here.
There is a possibly relevant bug report on Launchpad that mentions your motherboard way down on post #73 here:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/plymouth/+bug/553745
I did not see a solution or a workaround anywhere on that page though.

After 9 months of purchasing my MacBook Pro I was faced with Error while burning my CDs. Toast reported sense keyMEDIUM ERROR and eject CD. I google the error and was surprised to see so many users are having this error. Some were blaming to cheap CDs while others recommended to repair permissions or re-install OS.

I continue to face error on some cds while some burn fine. I concluded that it may be defective cds but when I used same cd on my external writer they burn fine. On 12 months my burner finally gave up and now it was not burning any type of CD/DVD.

I went to shop purchased Philips CD Cleaner which had two brushed on it. Inserted it into my dvd drive. Instructions played to choose track no. 14 for cleaning. I did as instructed and WOW my dvd burner was functional. I have burnt quite a few CD with no problem at all.

UPDATE - I logged onto Recovery Console and did a search for Windows Updates that were installed yesterday.  (Run DIR $* from the C:\Windows directory)  Here are cd error 0x73 updates that could be the problem:

    KB971468

    KB975560

    KB977165

    KB977914

    KB978037

    KB978251

    KB978262

    KB978706

Can one of you with the same issue check it out as well so we can compare updates?  I'd like to get to the bottom of this quickly as I'm 502 error postfix this isn't the only machine I will come across today with this issue.

    FIXED!

Ok - I uninstalled a few of the updates 500 errore server interno now the PC boots just fine.  The update that caused the problem is one of the following 3: KB977165, KB977914, or 978037.  I started with my list above uninstalling groups of cd error 0x73 at time to narrow it down.  You will need a Windows XP install disc to do this.  Boot off of it and enter Recovery Console.  To uninstall updates from recovery console, do the following:

    1. Change directories to the uninstall directory of update in question:  At the C:\windows prompt, type cd error 0x73 $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst" and press Enter.

    2. Run in the uninstall script for that update: At the prompt, type "BATCH spuninst.txt" and press Enter.  This executes the txt file as a batch script.

I did this for each of the three updates I listed above (changing the KB., cd error 0x73. portion to match the update I wanted to remove) and the PC boots into Windows with no issue.  Now, off to research the three updates to find out which one broke Windows and why.  Post and let me know if this helped any of you.

    Satellite A60: Powersaver won't start no-error 0x7E

    Kind regards.

Additional the laptop should be able to handle 2 x cd error 0x73 MB memory, so you should be able to use 2 x 128 MB

I think that the second ram location may have a malfunction.
Please check the second slot with a module of memory.

The second possibility is to use exactly the module which is recommended by Toshiba.
    As I remember it s PC100 128 MB (PA3005U) SDRAM

See this Microsoft Knowledge base article:

On the rare occasions when I'll be past this stage, lights blinking, and the system soon shuts down again with a screen message "low battery." Until this morning, he would sometimes settle, the computer remained on, and the lights showed a State of equilibrium as usual.

No, Vista 64 cd error 0x73 will not solve your problem, cd error 0x73. The fact is that this model of laptop only supports a maximum of 2 GB of Ram in total, cd error 0x73. For example, you can use cd error 0x73 of your 2GB memory module.

If you do so, cd error 0x73 will start again.

Maybe the dealer will exchange the laptop with a new.

If this isn't the case, cd error 0x73, then you must contact the service provider authorized in your country for assistance.

Especially this error message appears because the Middle starts not able.
You insert a boot able CD?

Try this: connect the computer laptop HARD drive to a USB adapter and try to format the whole HARD drive.
Then put it in the laptop, insert the bootable CD and try to boot from the drive.
As mentioned you could press the C button immediately after you start the laptop

  • Satellite A500 - Windows won't start, how to get back now?

    Hello guys.

Recently, a week, cd error 0x73, I bought a new Satellite A500 - 1HK.

So in my opinion, your question cd error 0x73 already answered. Juice wait the Toshiba Recovery disk to restore to factory settings.

If work HDD recovery doesn't, your only option is the Toshiba recovery disc and now it s time to wait. I m you will get the disk as soon as possible.

  • Satellite A15-S129 won't start CD - message NTLDR missing

I decided to do a new installation on my Satellite A15-S129 neighbors. After trying all sorts of ways, cd error 0x73, I decided to remove the hard drive and reformat my computer. When I put in the satellite, I expected to boot cd error 0x73 the cd since the hard drive was empty, but no, I get the "missing ntldr message.

The Bios does not have the cursor move on the part where I could change the boot order. When I start the computer, I can't press f2 or f12 to change the boot order.

After no luck I just started doing all sorts of things to solve problems. A: I notice if I remove the hard drive and let cd error 0x73 empty slot, I get error IDE, and then SURPRISE!

It s very strange that you are not able to access the BIOS and that it of not possible to change the boot order, cd error 0x73. nor by the F2 or F12 key.
But wait this BIOS has been installed on this laptop? Phoenix BIOS or Toshiba?
To access the Phoenix BIOS you need to press "F2", but to access the Toshiba BIOS, cd error 0x73, you must press ESC then F1.

In any case, due to your description, I guess the hardware malfunction causes this problem.
Maybe a problem of controller, HARD drive or other tiny part of the motherboard does not work

I think that the technician should take a look on this laptop, cd error 0x73, and maybe he'll find the source of error.

I started my computer and start the recovery window came. I ran it and it has to solve the problem and computer ran very well, cd error 0x73. Then turned on and got the screen to start normally, service unavailable error code 3 mode, safemode promt, European round table. I chose safe mode and it and all the config system starts to roll across the screen, then screen turned black and nothing else happened. So I tried again and chose to start windows normally, but the same thing, cd error 0x73. Toshiba comes through screen\, hard disk, running, but nothing but a black screen. Hi, cd error 0x73, I have the following problem: I burn a Cd with Ubuntu 10.04 and when I turn on the live cd cd error 0x73 up the following error: error_code 0 x73/0x80. Does anyone else have any idea how to deal with this?

    Intel Celeron D 325 2533 MHz
    ASRock P4i65GV

This time by selecting "install" installation stops at "verifying network equipment." I waited about 3 cd error 0x73, then jumped me as always.

It should run through a check of every file on the CD and report if cd error 0x73 are any errors. It takes a minute or 2 to run.
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a valid CD. Try burning a new CD and see if you can then run cd error 0x73 "check CD for defects" check when you boot the live (or alternate) CD.
You might also try downloading the Ubuntu iso from a different a different mirror, just to rule out a cd error 0x73 download.

Yes, when I select "check errors Live CD" pops up this error. The same is true if I select "test". When you choose to install it receives this error: 0 work_notifysig x13/0x1b. The cd error 0x73 is ok, because the checksums are correct, and I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a notebook from it.

The CD can not be considered "ok" if the check disc for defects check will not pass. It is possible for the CD md5sum to pass even though 1 or more files on the CD may be corrupt. I have had this happen to me.
If many files on the CD are corrupt, then the md5sum check will not cd error 0x73. If only 1 or 2 (or possibly a few more) files are corrupt, the md5sum may still pass even though a few files on the CD are bad.
Note that it is possible to install *buntu from a CD with 1 bad file, cd error 0x73.
Cd error 0x73 that installing K3B will require you to install all of the KDE dependencies; but K3B is the best CD burning app in the linux world imo.

Then I chose the option to save & reset, cd error 0x73. It turns out that the LED on the monitor is orange all the time, which is at rest. I hear a single sound which means that everything is ok, but the screen is idle. By this, I can not enter the BIOS and restore default settings. Please, quick help.

    Hi,
But the problem does not lie with the CD.

Since you had previously said you successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 on your laptop, cd error 0x73, can you at least boot up the 10.04 live CD on the laptop and run the option "check disc for defects" on the laptop. If the disc check passes on the laptop, cd error 0x73, then at least we know that the CD is good. If the disc check fails on the laptop, then the CD is unreliable.
If I can find out anything else about this error, I will post back.

    Hi,
Yes, the cd error 0x73 has integrated graphics, cd error 0x73, plus my AGP card. But when I switch on the motherboard graphics Live CD and installation is in order, cd error 0x73.

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
In between the quotes "" at the end of the line:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
Put nomodeset in between the quotes so it looks like this:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"
Save and exit the file. Then run:

    sudo update-grub
    Reference for editing /etc/default/grub: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#grub%20%28/etc/default/grub%29
Then install the nvidia AGP card and then try booting into the installed Ubuntu using the nvidia card.
This guy in post #2 of this thread reports that his nvidia 5200 card would only boot with the live CD with the nomodeset option:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1442625
Then (assuming you can get to the Ubuntu desktop with the nvidia card) install the nvidia-173 driver:

    sudo apt-get install nvidia-173 nvidia-settings
    sudo nvidia-xconfig

    Then reboot.
The nvidia-173 driver supports your 5200:
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/nvidia-173
I really hope this gets us somewhere!

    Crap!!!

Ok, it seems that nomodeset has been rendered obsolete by recent Ubuntu updates. I was hoping it work for you from a fresh install of 10.04.
If you see post #6 from the thread I linked to in my last post:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1442625
it seems that the correct format is:

    yourchipsetname.modeset=0
Do you know what motherboard your computer has? And what chipset does the motherboard use?
What make and model computer do you have? If you built the computer yourself, what motherboard is in the computer?
If you do not know the chipset on your motherboard, run the command:
lspci in cd error 0x73 terminal and post the output here.
With the chipset of your motherboard we can (hopefully) edit the /etc/default grub file, and put the correct option in the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" that will get your Ubuntu 10.04 to boot with the nvidia 5200.

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i865.modeset=0"
Then try to reboot into the installed Ubuntu 10.04 with the nvidia card and see if it will work.

This code does not help. Again the same error pops up, and once jumped out a bug with the game port.
I don't know if this will help, but if you are getting errors about the game port then I would try disabling the game port in the BIOS.

I do not know if it's not my fault, because my motherboard is equipped with two bridges: Northbridge: Intel Morgan Hill i865GV and Southbridge: Intel cd error 0x73 ICH5. And I gave only one, cd error 0x73. Maybe something cd error 0x73 help you exactly how to print parts of my pc.

Try using i865GV in between the quotes at the end of the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" in the /etc/default/grub file.
Also, post the output cd error 0x73 lspci in the terminal.

Your motherboard has integrated Intel graphics:

I am about out of ideas here.
There is a possibly relevant bug report on Launchpad that mentions your motherboard way down on post #73 here:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/plymouth/+bug/553745
I did not see a solution or a workaround anywhere on that page though.

I only have the Windows XP SP3 discand the System cd that came with it originally.  I really did not care about personal data or applications on the system because I only used it for travel Email and web access so I always thought that the default restore would be enough.

To me, that looks like a medium (disc) error, cd error 0x73. You might want to try to force wodim to burn at a slower speed, as a test. Wodim will go to the slowest supported speed if you pass speed=0 to it.

    Cheers,

The speed seems to be the same with speed=0.

    SwordArMor,

    Code:
Errno: 5 (Input/output error), send opc scsi sendcmd: no error
may be permissions. cd error 0x73 What does the group command return.
You need to be in the cdrom group to write CDs.

    What does ls -l /dev/sg* show ?

    Code:
     $ ls -l /dev/sg?
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 0 May 12  2013 /dev/sg0
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, cd error 0x73, 1 May 12  2013 /dev/sg1
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 2 May 12  2013 /dev/sg2
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 3 May 12  2013 /dev/sg3
    crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 4 May 12  2013 /dev/sg4
    crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 5 May 12  2013 /dev/sg5
    cd error 0x73 1 root disk  21, 6 May 12  2013 /dev/sg6
    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 7 May 12  2013 /dev/sg7

    crw-r----- 1 root disk  21, 9 May 12  2013 /dev/sg9

Cd error 0x73 /dev/sg* nohes belonging the the optical drives are used to send commands to the drive. The data is sent through /dev/sr0, cd error 0x73, which is a block device.

cd error 0x73 for the output. Let's try a couple things here:

    1. Right before attempting to burn, make sure that the disc isn't somehow mounted automagically:

    2. Specify a burning mode of SAO:

    Code:

    wodim -vv -sao dev=/dev/sr0 /home/alarig/distribs/gentoo-install-amd64-minimal-20141016.iso

    3. If you still don't get a successful burn, please post the output of the above command, and also this one:

    Code:

    wodim dev=/dev/sr0 -checkdrive

    Cheers,
    Zach

    The drive isn’t mounted:

is what leads me to believe media problems. Here's an interesting thread from someone running into nearly the same problem as you are:

Might want to run through that thread, and give it a whirl.

    Cheers,
