Answer

Hi everyone,

For the people receiving the CAPI2 ID 11 “Failed extract of third-party rootlist…” generated in the application log:

· Click the Pearl (Start) Orb on the Desktop

· In the Search box typeCMD (do not hit enter)

· Right-Click sprers.eu and selectRun as administrator

Once the Command Prompt window is open type the following command and press enter.
certutil -urlcache * delete

*Note* There is a space between * & delete

Once it has completed it should show the following:
CertUtil: -URLCache command completed successfully

If the expired certificate is cached in the system profile, then you will need to run it in the system context.

To do this, download PsExec
Select Open then Double click sprers.eu
Select Extract and choose the location, (Take note of this location) make a new folder called PsTools and select Extract

Now Open the Command Prompt as the administrator and browse to the location of the PsTools folder.
So if you extracted to your Desktop the Command Prompt should look like this:
C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\PsTools

Type the following and hit enter:
psexec -i -s sprers.eu

A new Command Prompt window should open, from here type the following command again and hit enter:
certutil -urlcache * delete

If these steps do not work use the steps below to enable CAPI2 logging, please copy and paste the details of the error log in this thread.

Click 'Start' > Type Event in the search bar and select 'Event Viewer'
Expand 'Applications and Services Logs'
Expand 'Microsoft'
Expand 'Windows'
Expand 'CAPI2'
Select 'Operational'
On the far right pane > Click 'Enable Log'

Since late last night I am getting hundreds of CAPI2 application log error messages on some of our servers. From my initial investigation, this appears to be a Microsoft certificate problem on a Windows Update site. Is any one else seeing this? How to stop these messages?

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <Microsoft URL>with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

There&#;s a lot of info on this error out there in forums, and 99% of it had nothing to do with my problem.

Its basically a certificate error, to get to the bottom if it you need to dig a bit deeper.

Solution

If you have been hunting for a fix, and got here, you may of already tried some or all of these which DID NOT WORK, downloading and installing the certs from the link in the error,or deleting all your expired root certs.

1. First you need to get some detailed logging on what&#;s failing, Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Event Viewer > Expand Applications and Services > Microsoft > Windows > CAPI2 > Right click &#;Operations&#; > Select &#;Enable Log&#; >Then reboot.

event viewer logging

2. Return to the same place in Event Viewer > And open the errors listed there, as you can see &#;In My Case&#; the problem is McAfee, after I removed McAfee and installed the latest version (i with patch 3 at time of writing), the error ceased.

Note: Your problem may not be McAfee, but at least you now have a better idea of what it is 🙂

    Hello

Here is a definition of basis for the CSF in general terms. You can search Google using "Certificate Revocation List" and find a lot more information.

It is also possible that direct X is looking for some updated drivers

What is happening is that your browser is verification of certificates caused, is perfectly normal and safe, its to protect you

  • Update of root certificate does not (error CAPI2 event ID 60)

    Hello

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 on a new system.

I noticed that there are sites including https / SSL certificates do not seem valid where I don't expect it (for example BBC laboratories), using the two Chrome and IE.

After some searching on the forum of other messages, I followed it down to a problem with Windows 7, do not automatically update root certificates installed. Specifically, using MMC event logging, CAPI2 event ID 60 (store) returns 5 "access denied." This causes then event ID 11 and 30 to not like the certificate chain fails to build and check.

    Other points to note:

    • Normal Windows updates work fine
    • Most of the sites using https / SSL works fine (i.e. a root certificates are installed with success - if those provided with Windows or have been updated since the installation I don't know)
    • I tried to disable all my firewall / antivirus programs where they prevented updates, no effect

Anyone know a fix for this - I don't really want to having to perform a complete reinstallation :(

    Thank you!

    Thanks sirot,.

    Unfortunately, this does not work.

In the end I just did a re-complete installation of Windows which seems to have solved the problem.

  • Crashing on start, auto-updated even when disabled & not allowing an add-on security toolbar download

I followed all the steps in all relevant help articles (sprers.eu#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash), and nothing has solved this problem.

I was running v17, and yesterday it auto-updated to v18 when I opened firefox. As soon as it updated it crashed, pressing 'restart firefox' did nothing, I could only quit. So I found an old install file, went back to v17, checked the option to ask permission before updating, run malwarebytes and spybot, so my PC is clean. This morning, same thing happened - auto update with no warning or permission given. Crashed. Repeatedly, restarted, closed everything else that was running, uninstalled and reinstalled the older stable version. Both times I spent a long time reinstalling add ons and themes. On top of that my goodapp toolbar from goodsearch will no longer be installed by firefox because 'it can't modify the necessary files'. All other add ons work fine, and I was using this toolbar with no issues in v17 only yesterday. The second reinstall I clicked the option 'never check for updates'. But tonight, when I opened firefox, it updated without warning to v18 again and I was ready to switch to chrome after a decade of using this browser. There was no Firefox (safe mode) to run from my program files, and since I couldn't open the browser at all before it crashed, all I could do was uninstall and reinstall v17 for the third time in 24 hours and as you can imagine I am not very happy that your so-called stable release is anything but that. I think with the number of people having problems that you should stop work on v20 and actually accept there is a problem with this release instead of trying to blame it on malware.

    Final crash report ID: bp-3eaf-4eb31f

This crash is usually caused by malicious software and the random name involved in your case file is sprers.eu as you can see in the list of the modules of the accident report.

Try using MSConfig and disable this file to prevent any start-up.

Try to start the computer in safe mode Windows with network support (on the startup screen, press F8) to see if that allows you to locate and remove the file manually or with a malware scanner.

You need to search the registry of Windows (Ctrl + F) for references to this file and export and delete the keys involved to avoid problems starting with the missing files or you can also use a registry cleaner like CCleaner.
If you are not satisfied with editing the registry, then it's better to skip this step.

Do a check with some malware malware, analysis of programs on the Windows computer.

You need to scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

  • Hello,

Try the following out as found on this webpage:

    sprers.eu

Try downloading it and manually installing it.

At the beginning of this year, I had run into a similar problem with Vista. I eventually determined it was rejecting a signed MS certificate, one whose certifying authority was again MS. So, the error description wasn't quite consistent with the problem. Double-clicking the .cab and manually installing that certificate didn't help anything; I could really find nothing wrong with it. It just seemed that something else was going wrong when it was being referenced somehow. Ultimately, I discovered that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service was the source of the event, and since I don't use that, I just disabled the service. Problem solved (for me).

My story in the paragraph above probably doesn't pertain to your situation. I include it only as an example to prepare you for the indirect reasoning you might need to apply after downloading that .cab file. Good luck.

    Or maybe, just ignore it.

Since late last night I am getting hundreds capi2 windows 7 error CAPI2 application log error messages on some of our servers. From my initial investigation, this appears to be a Microsoft certificate problem on a Windows Update site. Is any one else seeing this? How to stop these messages?

The site is "sprers.eu" BUT the certificate is issued to "*sprers.eu"

    Problem description
An error similar to the following was logged in the application log on a machine running Windows 7 or Windows Server R2:
    Log name: application
    source: microcosm-windows-capi2
    date: date and time
    event ID:
    task category: no
    level: error
    key words: classic
    user: N/A
    computer: computer name
    description:
from < sprers.eu (sprers.eu) > The automatic update CAB failed to extract the third-party root list with the error: the certificate required for verification based on the current system clock or the timestamp in the signature file is not valid.
Or, an application log on a machine running Windows Vista or Windows Server records an error similar to the following:
    Log name: application
    source: microcosm-windows-capi2
    date: date and time
    event ID: 11
    task category: no
    level: error
    key words: classic
    user: N/A
    computer: computer name
    description:
from < sprers.eu (sprers.eu) > The automatic update CAB failed to extract the third-party root list with the error: the certificate required for verification based on the current system clock or the timestamp in the signature file is not valid.
    why
The above error occurred because the Microsoft Certificate Trust List publisher certificate has expired. A copy of the CTL whose signature certificate has expired exists in the CryptnetUrlCache folder.
In addition, the event ID May be logged as a &#;data invalid&#; error rather than a &#;Certificate that is not valid when verified against the current system clock or timestamp in the signature file&#; error.

    Hello,

Try the following out as found on this webpage:

    sprers.eu

Try runtime error 87 vb it and manually installing it.

Capi2 windows 7 error, I discovered that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service was the source of the event, and since I don't use that, I just disabled the service. Problem solved (for me).

My story in the paragraph above probably doesn't pertain capi2 windows 7 error your situation. I include it only as an example to prepare you for the indirect reasoning you might need to apply after downloading that .cab file. Good luck.

    Or maybe, just ignore it.

On my pc running Windows 7, the following error returned every hour:

    Log Name: Application
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-CAPI2
    Date: 10/25/ PM
    Event ID:
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: Desktop WIndows 7
    Description:
Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <sprers.eu> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

To get rid of this error, I found out I had to run certutil -urlcache * delete. After running this command, the error didn’t appear in my eventlog anymore.

To do the same, follow these steps:

    1. Temporarily turn off UAC. To do so, click Start, capi2 windows 7 error, type UAC and select “Change User Hwk box auth error 32 repair Control Settings” (search result). In the User Account Control window, set the slide bar to Never Notify.
    2. Reboot your computer, capi2 windows 7 error.
    3. Open a command prompt. To do so, click Start, type cmd and click “sprers.eu” (search result)
    4. In the command prompt, capi2 windows 7 error, type certutil -urlcache * delete . Press ENTER
    5. Turn on UAC again and reboot your computer. Event Error , related to CAPI2 should be gone now.
