Why Canon Printer Error 5200 Occurs?

Canon printer error 5200 is primarily caused due to cartridge problems. It can be due to low ink levels in your cartridge, due to faulty cartridge or maybe there is some issues with the logic board of your printer. We know that Canon printers are designed to print in Black even if the Black cartridge goes empty, by using the colors in color ink cartridge. Therefore, if you are seeing error 5200 in the Canon printer, then your printer cartridges are either empty or they are close to empty. Now that you know the cause of this error let’s discuss its solutions.

Most printer issues come from missing or corrupt drivers. You can use an automated driver updater to quickly fix problems and keep your system up to date. We recommend downloading DriverFix.

How to Fix Canon Printer Error code 5200

Primarily, there are three easy solutions for the error 5200 in Canon printer. We have discussed them one-by-one and you should try each of them until this issue is resolved.

Solution 1: Refill all your cartridges / Ink Tank

1. Check the ink levels in your black and colored ink cartridges and get them filled if they are running low on ink.

2. After refilling the Black cartridge, make sure that the color ink cartridge is also filled. Otherwise, you will encounter this error.

Refill Ink

Solution 2: Clean Cartridge / Print Head Manually

  1. Unplug the power cable of your printer and leave your printer like that for 1 hour.

2. Then, take out the ink cartridges from your printer and clean their head properly.

3. Re-insert the cartridges, re-plug the power cable and turn on your printer to check whether the error has been resolved or not.

For more details check out this video tutorial on how to clean the canon printer’s print-head.

Solution 3: Reset your Canon Printer to factory (default) settings

With these steps, we are going to reset printer settings to default settings.

  1. Press ‘ON’ button to switch-off your printer.

4. Next, while holding the ‘ON’ button, press ‘Stop’ button 5 times. Press Stop button on intervals of about 2 seconds and each time you press it, the yellow triangle light below should be switched-on and switched-off.

stop

5. Release all the buttons and you will see that LCD display will show blank, but the ON button will start blinking. This is a sign that your printer is being reset. At this point, your computer may show that it’s installing a new hardware, just ignore that message.

on

6. Once the ON button stops blinking and constantly shows green light. Press it ones and wait for your printer to switch-off.

How to Fix the Canon B200 Printer Error

One of the most feared Canon printer errors is B200, indicating a potentially catastrophic error with the device. Don't junk it immediately, though. Printers are expensive, and there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take before you shop for a new printer.

Causes of the Canon B200 Error

The B200 error indicates a faulty print head at its most basic level. A print head is a part that distributes the ink from the cartridges onto the paper, meaning it's one of the most critical aspects of the entire printer. Print heads can be problematic, especially on cheaper printers.

How to Fix the Canon B200 Error

There are several things you can do to fix a faulty print head and eliminate the B200 error. Try some of the below suggestions before you replace the entire device.

  1. Reset the printer. Unplug it and leave it disconnected for at least 30 minutes. A good, long reset allows the printer to cool down and restore everything to its proper position before turning the device back on.

  2. Remove any obstructions. There's a possibility something is disrupting the connection to the printer head. Open the printer's door, carefully disconnect the print head, and lift it out of the device. Reseat it and see if that fixes the issue.

There's usually a lever on the printer head. Press the lever to remove the printer head.

  3. Clean the printer head. Use the device's maintenance options to run its cleaning cycle. It's handy if the printer head is clogged.

  4. Manually clean the print head. Use pure alcohol or a non-oil-based cleaneron the print head's gold contacts. Use a microfiber cloth to rub the cleaner onto the contacts, then let it dry completely before reconnecting.

The print head is very fragile, so handle it with care.

  5. Remove old ink. There may be hardened ink trapped inside the print head. Run it under hot tap water until the water comes out clean. Dab it dry with a paper towel, then reinsert the head into the printer.

  6. Re-install the printer drivers. Find your device on the official Canon support page and follow the directions for updating the drivers.

  7. Try a new ink cartridge. Faulty cartridges rarely trigger the B200 error, but it can happen. Refer to the user manual for this process regarding your specific device.

  8. If none of the above methods work, the B200 error is probably accurate. It's time to shop for a new printer.

While it's possible to find the part you need and install it, the cost of a new print head is about the same as buying an entirely new printer.

Possible Printhead Failure?

NOTE 1:A compatible/clone ink cartridge can be problematic when installed into the printer following refilling; typically the smart chip (at base of cartridge) cannot be reliably programmed. Compatible cartridges are typically purchased on-line or at select retailers (i.e  sold under a different label than the regular Canon cartridge packaging) and is essentially a “knock-off” of the Canon original/genuine ink cartridge. This is primarily based on a combination of total printed pages (rated duty cycle) vs. image content and printing frequency. Answer

There should be a troubleshooting page in the manual to tell you exactly what the error is, you have to count the flashes of the orange LED.

A total reset can be done, see: http://tricks-collections.com/reset-printer-canon-mp140-mp160-mp180-mp210-mp220-mp460-mp470-mp500-mp510-mp530-mp600-mp610-mp800-mp820-mp810-mp830-mp960-mp970/

The most common error for the mp460 seems to be a 5100 in the display, the fix is at: http://www.justanswer.com/printers-and-office/4idaw-canon-pixma-mp460-printer-not-functioning-error.html

The printer is showing error 5100 and making a bumping noise as it prints. I have 1. cleaned the timing strip.2. reloaded latest drivers. 3. replaced all carts that had topfill plugs in. 4. pressed down purge pads they seem to go down ok then spring back up, but not protruding above frame.

Yesterday had to reload 1 computer from system memory but cannot see that has any connection. Sounds a mechanical malfunction.

Any ideas anybody ?
OK a bit late but here goes.

Sometimes one of your cartridges can be causing it, (Sticking up)
I know you have tried that before but try it again.

Put the print carriage in the middle of the printer and pull the power plug,
then move the print head manually yourself from side to side to replicate the bumping sound canon mp970 error 5100 its location.

Another alternative is to enter service mode and reset your waste pad counter, thats a long shot but it may work.
