How to Troubleshoot a Canon MP190

The Canon PIXMA MP190 is an all-in-one photo printer that prints photos and documents. The Canon MP190 shows an error message that alerts the user to potential problems. An error message shows as an orange light and displays an error code on an LED screen. Following a few basic steps should get the Canon PIXMA MP190 operating smoothly again.

Step 1.

Check the paper input. If the LED shows "E, 2," the machine is either out of paper or the paper will not feed. Correctly load the paper, replace the tray, and press the "Color" or "Black" button to resume printing. If "E, 3" displays, there is either a paper jam or the paper tray is not open properly. Check the printer for a paper jam and clear it, then close and replace the tray. Resume printing.

Step 2.

Check the status of the FINE cartridge, If "E, 4," "E, 5," "E, 7," "E, 1, 4" or "E, 1, 5" displays on the LED, the FINE cartridge is either not set properly or not compatible with the printer. Open the cover and verify that the cartridge is installed correctly. Close the cover and resume printing. If the error still displays, there may be damage to the print head. If "E, 2, 2" displays with a flashing green light, the FINE cartridge is stuck. Turn the machine off. Remove the protective cover before removing the cartridge. Reinstall the cartridge and turn on the machine.

Step 3.

Check the ink absorber. If "E, 8" displays, the ink absorber is nearly full. Clear the error and resume printing by pressing "Black" or "Color." The ink absorber needs to be replaced before the next print batch begins.

Step 4.

Check the ink cartridges. If "E, 1, 3" displays, the ink likely has run out. Pres the "Stop/Reset" button and hold it for five seconds to resume printing. Replace the necessary ink cartridges. If "E, 1, 6" displays, the ink has run dry. Replace the ink cartridge, close the cover and resume printing.

Step 5.

Check the size and placement of the document. If "E, 2, 0" shows on the LED, the document is too small for the printer to detect. Verify the document is correctly placed on the print glass, then resume printing. If this does not correct the problem, then the "Print Head Alignment Sheet" has failed. Connect the printer to a computer and align the print head using the printer driver. Once alignment is complete, resume printing.

Step 6.

Reboot the computer when major error messages appear. If "E, 2, x," "E, 3, x" or "E, 4, x" display, the printer likely will require service. Turn the machine off, remove the power supply from the machine and let it rest for a moment. Reattach the power supply and plug it back in.

Does anyone know a way to clear error E27 (ink absorber full) on Canon MP190? I have cleaned the ink absorber. Turned the printer off and on, using various code-clearing procedures online with no success. E27 always returns.

Below are some steps I have tried with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

*** None of these below have worked for me.....

Press and hold the "Power" button and reconnect the power cord. When the printer comes on, release the button. Wait five seconds and push the "Power" button again. This resets the printer's internal memory and overrides the "Ink Absorber Full" error code.

If your absorber is full, call Canon at 732-521-7230 to order the replacement pads for the ink absorber.

If you do not have access to new ink absorber pads, you can extend the life of your current pads by rinsing them thoroughly and allowing them to dry before reinstalling them.

To replace the pad:

1 Open the printer as though you were going to install new ink cartridges, letting the cartridge cradle move to the center of the printing unit. Unplug the printer so that the cartridges will remain in their position.

2 Locate the waste ink absorbers in their black rubber frame. They will likely be on the right side of your printer, and will be located underneath the area where the ink cartridges rest when the printer is in standby mode.

3 Use a paper napkin or other disposable and absorbent material to soak up any excess ink that may be in the pads by pressing it down onto the top of the frame.

4 Pull the rubber frame free from the printer, wearing gloves to keep your hands clean. Carefully remove the ink absorber pad or pads from the rubber frame.

5 Insert new ink absorber pads firmly into the rubber frame. Replace the rubber frame in its original position and close the printer.

6 Hold down the power button, then plug the printer back in. Continue holding the power button down until the printer begins to reset itself and come online.

7 Wait for the green power light to turn off, then press and release the power button again. It should blink for two to three seconds, then stay lit; this will indicate that the printer has been reset and is ready to print again without errors.

Thanks Mike. That one seems to have worked, but E27 came back on when powered up again.

Solving Canon PIXMA MP190 E27 error

Suddenly our printer -- Canon PIXMA MP190 -- stopped working and it shows () error. From what I saw, this means Ink Absorber is Full.

Most of search results recommend to put the printer in service mode and to use a software resetter.

I am on a Linux machine, but if the fix requires a Windows machine, I have access to one and I can connect the printer to it.

What I tried:

  1. I tried to reset the printer using a software. That software doesn't recognize the printer...
  2. I opened the printer and cleaned up the things there. A lot of ink was wasted on absorbers. I cleaned them up and put all the things together back.

Same error appears after this clean up.

How can I fix the problem?

How to Override a Canon MP190 Cartridge Chip

The Canon PIXMA MP190 All-in-One Printer prints and copies in black and white or color, and creates color scans of originals up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches in size. Canon designs its ink tanks with integrated computer chips that track the lifespan and performance of these consumables. When one of your MP190's ink tanks triggers an error message, you can reset the unit and continue printing to finish an urgent business document. When your deadlines loom and your supply of ink tanks runs out, this procedure can make the difference between satisfying a client and failing to make a successful impression.

  1. Examine the Alarm and ink lamps below the "+" button near the right edge of the top of the unit. The Alarm lamp at the top signals trouble while the black and color ink lamps below it warn of problems specific to these individual ink tanks.

  2. Check the error code displayed on the MP190's front-panel. If the display sequence reads "E 1 3," the printer can't tell how much ink remains in one or both ink tanks. A sequence that reads "E 1 6" warns you of an empty ink tank.

  3. Press and hold the "Stop/Reset" button for five seconds, telling the printer to override its built-in function for detecting ink levels. The button appears below the Scan button in the same column of lamps and buttons as the Alarm and ink lamps.

Troubleshooting

Cause

Reload the paper correctly and press the Black or Color button.

If the Paper Output Tray is closed or not opened fully, open it fully. The

machine resumes printing.

If opening the Paper Output Tray fully does not resolve the problem, the

paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly

in the machine, and then press the Black or Color button. See "Paper

Jams" on page 55.

The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly, or the Cartridge may not

be compatible with this machine. Open the Scanning Unit (Cover), and

then make sure that the FINE Cartridges are installed properly and that the

installed FINE cartridges are compatible with the machine.

If the error is not resolved, the Print Head may be damaged. Contact your

Canon Service representative.

Make sure that each FINE Cartridge is installed in the correct position.

See "Replacing a FINE Cartridge" on page 33.

The machine has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print

Head Cleaning, for example.

This error code indicates that the ink absorber is nearly full.

Press the Black or Color button to cancel the error so you can continue

printing.

However, because printing is disabled once the ink absorber becomes

completely full and until the ink absorber is replaced, you are

recommended to contact your Canon service representative as early as

possible. (You will need to replace a particular part of the machine.)

Action

Canon printer error 2, 140, 21

Most Canon printers are designed to refuse to work without ink. The printer then enters into an error state and refuses to scan. The most common error code in this case is "2, 140, 21". You need in such a case to work around the printer's firmware.

In the best case, the firmware permits the use to reset ink detection by pressing and holding “Stop” (button with orange circle and triangle) for 5 seconds. Many Pixma models allow that.

Another known workaround was found for the Canon MP-198 printer and similar. It requires for the printer to have a digital display screen, and you may need to redo it every time that you turn on the printer. If this method doesn't work for the printer, then there is probably no solution.

The following procedure is described below, and there is also a video.

Step 1: Remove All Cartridge

Turn printer ON, lift upper body to access cartridge, remove cartridge by pushing it to the front (to you).

Step 2: Enter 0 Mode

Now we need to enter the mode where the display shows .

  • Turn printer OFF
  • Disconnect USB cable
  • Close front lid (where paper come out)
  • Insert paper into paper tray (new sheet not crumpled).
  • Press and HOLD "stop/reset"
  • Press and HOLD the "ON" button
  • Release "stop/reset" button
  • Press and release "stop/reset" button two times
  • Release "ON" button.
Wait a moment, printer will enter into 0 mode, it will show (zero) on its display.
  • AFTER it shows , turn OFF printer by pressing ON button
  • PAPER will slightly coming/moving in.
Go to the next step after PAPER is slightly coming/moving in.

Step 3: Enter E3 Mode

We enter E3 mode, where the display will blink "E" and "3" continuously.

  • TURN ON printer
  • PAPER will continue moving into the printer
  • After half of the paper is inside, it will stop moving.
The printer will display E3: blinking "E" and "3" continuously

Step 4: Enter 1 Mode

In 1 mode the printer will show on the display. This mode means the printer is ready to use (as scanner) without ink cartridges.

  • Open front lid (where paper come out after print)
  • PAPER will continue moving and eventually coming out from front lid.
  • Close front lid again.
  • Finish, wait and it will go to 1 mode.

Step 5: Start Scanning Without Any Ink or Cartridge

Connect printer via USB to your PC to use it as a scanner.

Check canon mp190 error e2 printer for a paper jam and clear it, then close and replace the tray.

Replace the necessary canon mp190 error e2 cartridges. If "E, 1, 6" displays, the ink has run dry. Replace the ink cartridge, close canon mp190 error e2 cover and resume printing.

Step 5.

Check the size and placement of the document. If "E, 2, 0" shows on the LED, the document is too small for the printer to detect. Verify the document is correctly placed on the print glass, canon mp190 error e2, then resume printing. If this does not correct the problem, then the "Print Head Alignment Sheet" has failed. Connect the printer to a computer and align the print head using the printer driver. Once alignment is complete, resume printing.

Step 6.

Reboot the computer when major error messages appear. If "E, 2, x," "E, 3, canon mp190 error e2, x" or "E, 4, x" display, the printer likely will require service. Turn the machine off, remove the power supply from the machine and let it rest for a moment. Reattach the power supply and plug it back in.

How to Override a Canon MP190 Cartridge Chip

The Canon PIXMA MP190 All-in-One Printer prints and copies in black and white or color, and creates color scans of originals up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches in size.

Action

Solving Canon PIXMA MP190 E27 error

Suddenly our printer -- Canon PIXMA MP190 -- stopped canon mp190 error e2 and it shows () error.

That software doesn't recognize the printer.
  2. I opened the printer and cleaned up the things there. A lot of ink was wasted on absorbers. I cleaned them up and put all the things together back.

Same error appears after this clean up.

How can I fix the problem?
