I’ve read the message board a lot, and I also have no luck with desperate “voodoo” home remedies.

I disconnected, reconnected, etc. I disconnected individual cables and took out the battery for more than 10 minutes, reconnected the cables, but nothing happened.

I have NOT opened the power supply that all cables currently come from, but will be removed later.

Although I often connect the drive to another computer and can retrieve and view files from the hard drive. Does the bios recognize the drive? I also inserted a hard drive from another computer back into this HP and it doesn’t even recognize the hard drive through some kind of bios. Since the motherboard doesn’t actually recognize the hard drive through the SATA slots, my guess is that the motherboard is incompetent. I then installed the universal serial bus version of Ubuntu 12.10. It turns around and has access to the internet and all that, boot path error code biohd-4. So little knowledge means the motherboard is still fine, right? I don’t think I’ve read anywhere that this motherboard can only go wrong with a positive SATA connection. Hello!

If you’re using a USB stick in Ubuntu and the wrong hard drive, there’s a real possibility that the SATA controller on your motherboard has failed.

I believe your motherboard model is known to have SATA controller failures, as noted in many of the threads below.

Googling gives links that your hard drive is probably the culprit. Check the failed drive using a diagnostic boot from the CD manufacturer’s website. or use Seatools BACK Linked Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the downloaded files. You need a third party burning software to cover the cost like ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Engrave the role of an image, not a date picker.

Hi, boot path error code biohd-4, my husband and I went out of town for a week and our HP HQ500 touch smart Pc was left on and working properly. We came back to a black screen with an ERR2ERR3 message, and rebooting resulted in same message. No idea how this happened! Ran a diagnostic that said everything was fine except for this error message:

    Testing: boot path
    error code: BIOHD-4
    error: uninitialized/corrupt boot structure detected

Hoping to be able to use system restore, I bought the EasyRE repair disk for vista and tried to boot from disc, but screen would hang in blank black screen with flashing dash for several minutes before displaying err2err3 message again. Pushing a button brought up "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media into selected boot device and press a key" but reinserting disc and pressing a key only brought up boot path error code biohd-4 err3 message again. I went to boot setup screen and selected boot from disc drive option, but still would not boot from DVD. Then went to system settings and changed boot to start with cd drive first. Still no luck! I've also tried partitioning software to try to see if it would start up that program, but same err2err3 message again. I can hear the drive spinning up when disc is inserted, and diagnostic says the drive is functioning, but nothing happens! No idea what to do next! Please help! boot path error code biohd-4 Of note, we downloaded and burned the EasyRE repair disc on boot path error code biohd-4 Mac and burned to disc from there using disk utility program. Maybe a problem with the drive CD/DVD like HERE there are several different drives / Firmware on the driver of the BIOS page here check to determine which drive you have. Or, if you have another computer with a disk that you can use temporarily to try to recover? Doesn't even have to be installed, I simply hooked up to a DVD player for cables and used.

    Hi Oorin,

You can try reinstalling the HARD disk? With the flashing lights continuously, it could be the BIOS.  Have you tested the HARD drive?

If the HARD drive reinstalling does not help, try reinstalling the memory.

I fixed it with the restoration of the system. But can someone tell me why this happened? The Assistant de Support HP r says there is no update available, Device Manager must therefore determine that the card Intel is up to date.

    Any help? Thank you.

  • Hi,

    1.    Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

    2.    What is the make and model of the computer?

    3.    Did the computer come pre-installed with Windows operating system?

The error seems to be occurring for HP computers. However, I would suggest you to do a hardware test on the computer. You may refer the manuals provided by the system manufacturer or contact them for assistance.

This issue might occur if the hard drive is corrupted. I would suggest you to refer to the link and check the drive for errors:

    Check a drive for errors

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, it tries to repair that sector and if any data available might be lost.

If the issue is not resolved, please provide more information to assist you better.

    Hi Rohit,

I tried replying in Gmail but it resulted in a permanent failure, boot path error code biohd-4, so I will now type in my reply at the Community site.     The Gmail notice said, "Recipient address rejected:  Access Denied."     But, my registration was accepted yesterday.     Below is my reply to you:

Thank you so much for getting back to me.     I really appreciate that.     I did do a Check Disk yesterday, but don't know if it attempted  to recover any bad sectors.     I'll do another Check Disk and make sure I have enabled it to both automatically fix system errors and attempt the recovery of bad sectors.

I missed seeing the last screen of the Check Disk and do not know if it gave a report of anything done.     Is there a means of finding out the results and possible changes made?

You are right on.     I do have an HP.     It is an HP model p6687c.     The event log shows that it had two boot warnings two month before I purchased it from Costco, so there were no changes made prior to those first two warnings.     That seems to indicate that the two boot warnings were evident at the factory, but they did nothing to fix it.

Yes, this computer had Windows 7 pre-installed before I purchased it in a bundle packaged with a monitor, which also died some time ago.     Sigh.

Is there a difference between doing "a hardware test" on the computer and doing a Check Disk?

I will try another Check Disk later on today when I'm able --- hoping I don't have to go through that black screen thing again --- and will get back to you with what happens.     I don't even know if the first Check Disk fixed anything.

    Have a great day!

    Hi,

Check disk (chkdsk) is a command run utility that is used on DOS and Microsoft Windows-based systems to check the file system and status of the system's hard drives, boot path error code biohd-4. The chkdsk command lists and corrects errors on the disk.

Hardware diagnostics is provided by the system manufacturer which checks all boot path error code biohd-4 hardware and reports if there are any issues with them.

Good to know that you are trying to run chkdsk on the computer. However, you may also refer to the link and try to run the HP hardware diagnostics tools:

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Rohit,

This is basically to let you know that I'm still hanging in there and trying to resolve my problem with the failed Boot Test that a Check Disk reports.    My computer still works, if I do not shut it down.

HP agreed that doing a Recovery will not work because there have been Critical Events recorded since before the beginning of my purchasing this computer.    Also, doing a System Restore will not work since the System Restore disks I created when I first had this machine would replicate the same Critical Events.    So, HP is sending me a clean System Restore disk, and I will be in the process of using that and reinstalling all my software, etc., boot path error code biohd-4 I've never had to do before.

Do you have some guidance on a list of things I should be sure error sil only 3/4 metadata do before using the System Restore disk?

I'm ashamed to say I haven't gotten around to using the HP Hardware Diagnostics yet and am a bit afraid of not using it rightly --- but, will try to attempt it today.

Thank you for your assistance and have a great day.

    Hi,

You may try to take a backup before using the system restore disk. Do let us know the status and we will be happy to help you if there is any help required.

    Hi,
I had my desktop pc on and after a while I came back and it was on a black screen that said:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key".

I ignored this and restarted my computer & successfully got to my desktop. While surfing the internet normally, the computer froze and started a "diagnostic tools" test.

The Quad CPU test passed, Memory passed, and then it started testing drive: ST3750528AS (9VP29G2Y) which passed, hp DVD-RAM GH40L (941CD057586) which passed. Testing: Boot Path, boot path error code biohd-4, Error Code: BIOHD-3. Warning: No bootable drives detected. Suggestion: Please contact HP Support. Press any key to continue.

I've never had a problem with error youwave failed to read apps.xml desktop, and I can't remember it ever freezing up on me or shutting down randomly. Please help I don't know what to do :(
Would resetting to factory settings fix the problem?

    Product: HP
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

edit: Restarting the computer and going to the desktop eventually freezes and takes me bak to the "reboot and select proper boot device." message. I am in safemode trying to save my files to a usb before my computer messes up even more. :(please help.
