Whirlpool dishwasher error codes

Understanding your Whirlpool dishwasher error codes

A Whirlpool dishwasher isn&#;t like other models that you&#;ll encounter. Every system is different, and they all possess a variation of flashing lights or a sequence which indicates a problem. Understanding what they all mean can be pretty vital for making sure that you respond correctly to an issue and get it resolved. Here at Just Fixed, we want you to be able to get the most from your system, and so we&#;re going to be looking into the error codes you might experience.

Whirlpool dishwasher

Fault Code F1

The first code that we&#;re going to look at is Whirlpool fault code F1. This error can also reveal itself to you via a single flash of the system. However, regardless of how you see the message, the meaning is the same. It represents a problem with the temperature sensor of your dishwasher, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, which often leads to difficulties in regulating the heat of the water being used to clean dishes, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error. The message appears when the sensors inside the machine detect that it&#;s operating outside of the given temperature range. In some cases, you can heat the interior and then try again, but in other instances the heating element is faulty. If you&#;re unsure, consult with a professional.

Fault Codes F2 and F3

Moving on, we&#;re going to take a look at Whirlpool Fault Codes F2 and F3, both of which connect to the water systems in a dishwasher and highlight issues with them. Two flashes, or error code F2, means that a water leak has been detected somewhere in the system, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error. You can&#;t quickly fix this yourself, so you&#;ll need to get us involved! The fault code F3 is indicative of an issue with the heating system which creates hot water to clean dishes. You need to check the heating element first of all and see if there&#;s an immediate error. If you can not identify an error for yourself, then it is within your interest to contact a professional.

Four Flashes, Fault F4

Four flashes denote the fourth fault code, and it is an indicator that the dishwasher is not draining of water correctly. This problem is one you can investigate for yourself, and you can do so by making sure that there are no blockages or debris surrounding the areas where the water drains.

Fault F5

Fault F5 occurs when the spray arms are bauknecht dishwasher f2 error and have subsequently malfunctioned. Thankfully, as a problem, this isn&#;t the end of the world, because you can easily remove them and examine the issue for yourself! You can even wash them and make sure that they&#;re as clean as possible, and then put internal error - incomplete session by timeout back into your machine and try again.

Six Flashes

In some situations, you&#;re going to get six flashes coming up on your Whirlpool machine. This occurrence denotes a fault code known as F6. F6 indicates to us that the dishwasher isn&#;t detecting water coming into the system, regardless of whether or not the water inlet valve is open. Naturally, this can be quite a frustrating occurrence, and the first thing you&#;ll need to do is to check the water supply and make sure it&#;s connected properly. You would also be wise to check if there are any problems with regards asus p9x79 cpu fan error kinks in the system or blockages.

F7 &#; Nearing The End?

Thankfully, there aren&#;t many more Whirlpool fault codes that you&#;ll have to deal with, so we&#;re going to push through and cover them all, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error. Fault code F7 is what you&#;ll see when there is a fault with the flow meter. This problem is common in dishwashers, and you can fix it with a replacement piece. However, make sure you check to identify that the problem isn&#;t just down to water supply before you do so.

Fault Code F8

The next Whirlpool fault code which we have on the list is fault code F8. This set of flashes indicates a problem with the turbidity of the water, which means that it&#;s too dirty. Typically, this isn&#;t an issue because nearly all dishwashers have a built-in system that cleans the water, but in some instances, you&#;ll need to inspect it for yourself to confirm that there&#;s no significant blockage or that things aren&#;t too dirty.

F9 &#; Water Overload

Whirlpool Fault Code F9 is considered to be one of the more irritating codes because it shows you that your system is struggling with too much water. You can figure this one out by looking to see if there&#;s a problem inside the water inlet valve &#; is it jammed?

F0 &#; Double Digit Flashing

We&#;ve moved into our first double-digit flashing. This set of flashes is a sensor failure, but you won&#;t see it unless you&#;re an engineer because of how the system works.

FA &#; Out of Numbers

FA is 11 flashes, and we&#;ve most past the concept of numbers now. Fault Code F11 means that there&#;s just high levels of water turbidity, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, so go back to F8 for the solution to that, or contact a professional.

FB and FC &#; the End of the Road

Now we&#;ve reached FB and FC. We&#;re honestly at the end of the road. FB is a problem with the motorised diverter valve, and FC is a failure in the water hardness failure. Like most of these issues, you can contact us here at Just Fixed, and we&#;ll put it right for you!

E01

Power module failure!

All codes E01, E02, E03, E04 and E05 all indicate a power module failure.

This is not a fault that can be repaired by the owner as the modules have to be configured in order to operate, please see the information notes below.

As far as we are aware many models of Bosch either are or, will be set up this way in order to eliminate the possibility of DIY or third party repairs to these appliances.

E06

Door switch fault

This fault code will usually do what it says and be telling you that the door switch, the one used to tell if the door is closed and the lock engaged, is faulty. However, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, this series of Bosch dishwashers also do get the handles broken from time to time and hdd ultradma crc error count could be a cause, you can find a commonly used door handle here.

E07

Dryer fan faulty

Essentially this error code states that the dryer fan, used for fan drying in some models, is faulty or not operating for some reason.

E08

Heat pump has detected too low a water level in the tub

By heat pump we assume the water heating element as that's al that makes sense. Assume that a new heating element will not be a cheap item to buy and they are pretty specific to production within the series and it is better to check with us for the correct element.

E09

Heating circuit fault

As above, this is most probably going to be an issue with the heating element as the thermistors have their own fault codes below.

E10

Heat pump scaled up

Quite how the dishwasher senses this is not known but it would seem to indicate a poor flow of water through an instantaneous heater in the dishwasher as that would seem the only logical way in which this could be detected. This would assume that the inside of the heater was choked with limescale or, blocked in some other way, preventing the correct flow of water through the heater. A poor flow of water could cause the element to overheat and fail.

E11

NTC bauknecht dishwasher f2 error fault

This error code can be caused by the thermistor or the wiring to it being faulty.

E12

Not used

Seek engineer if displayed.

E13

Hot water inlet temperature too high, greater than 75˚C

Generally seen if connected to a hot water supply, if not it could indicate a sensor or board failure.

E14

Reed switch flow sensor fault

Please check with us for these parts but we would suggest that you seek a profession engineer if this error code is displayed.

E15

Water in base

Float sensor in the base has been activated. You can try to empty the base and restart the dishwasher as you will find noted many times in the forums but, if there is a leak this error code will simply be displayed again, you must find the cause of the leak.

E16

Inlet valve fault

This would indicate the lack of incoming water, which will ordinarily be caused by a water inlet valve having failed.

Bosch dishwasher inlet valves are not cheap and are often quite unique to Bosch, the popular SMS valve we use is this one but, do check with us and have the ENR number from the rating plate of the dishwasher so we can identify the correct water valve for your dishwasher.

E17

Water level too high - flow sensor

The dishwasher has, for some reason detected an overfill and is reporting that through this error code. The flow sensor note is there as that can cause this fault code to be displayed.

E18

Water level too low - valve

As above only in reverse, the machine has not filled with enough water and this can be caused by the water valve.

E19

Not used

Seek engineer if displayed.

E20

Winding resistance of circulating pump fault

The electronic controlled has detected a short or a break in a winding in the main recirculation pump or main motor of the dishwasher.

E21

Circulating pump blockage

This would be caused by a blockage or a poor water flow from the main motor of the dishwasher. This can be caused by a capacitor failure or for other reasons.

E22

Not used

Seek engineer if displayed.

E23

Winding resistance of drain pump fault

The controlled has detected a break or short in the drain pump wiring. Many of these dishwashers use this pump which is a cheap compatible one.

E24

Drain filters blocked

Clear the filters. Generic instructions to clean your dishwasher filters is available from here.

E25

Drain pump blocked or pump cover missing

This can be caused by the above or by, as the fault code indicates, a blocked drain pump.

E26

Water switch fault

There is little details on this error code.

E27

Not used

Seek engineer if displayed.

E28

Turbidity sensor fault

We would hp error 54.14 advice seeking an engineer for this fault as well as it is often not easy to understand or diagnose issues with turbidity sensors.

Please note that it has been stated that (all) "Future supplies of programme and power modules will no longer be preconfigured therefore only approved BSH engineers or their agents will be able to configure them (on site) using a suitably equipped laptop computer".At the time of writing to pre-configure a dhcp ack error PCB Bosch will charge you approximately £39 plus VAT on top of the cost of the module and it is not possible to do this without equipment from Bosch. Smeg dishwasher fault codes and spare partsFor all the hype and considerable amount of space which has been consumed by this problem on UK Whitegoods, there is still much confusion and unnecessary posting about what is usually a straight forward problem.

You can find this system and the 5 LED control board or time used in bauknecht dishwasher f2 error integrated dishwasher models made by Smeg and sold under the Hotpoint, Diplomat, Hygena, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, Teka and a few other brands.

E2 specifically means that the water level safety system has been activated. In plain English, this means an overfill, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, and the secondary water level switch has been activated.

How The Dishwasher Fill System Works

To explain the problem fully, a brief description of how the fill system works follows.

Water is introduced to the machine via a solenoid controlled water valve. This valve is normally mounted to the rear of the dishwasher and the water inlet hose screws directly onto it.

This is switched initially by the computer board ("Timer" in SMEG-ese) or control module, which is this type show here.

The water is routed through a fill matrix on the right hand side of the appliance.

This contains various channels and chambers which may be filled as the programme requires; the rest of the water being allowed to run down and through a transfer tube into the sump of the machine (the area covered by the filters).

As the water level rises, air is displaced from two "collecting chambers". One of these acts as the displacer to the water level control switch, the second is the safety, or overfill switch. The switches are operated by air pressure.

  What Causes The Fault

The problems arise because food deposits build up initially in the transfer tube, and bauknecht dishwasher f2 error in the fill matrix itself. This restricts the free flow of water into the machine and causes water to back up and operate the safety system. There is no circulation pressure in this particular water circuit, so there is nothing to wash the detritus away.

The bottom of a Smeg fill chamber where it blocks

This picture shows the bottom of a typical Smeg dishwasher side fill chamber and this is where it gets all gunged up

How To Repair The Fault With Your Dishwasher

In my experience, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, 9 out of 10 instances of the dishwasher's E2 problems can be solved by identifying the transfer tube and cleaning it out.

Looking into the sump area without the filters, you should spot a tube with a black rubber flap at the end. This is the one to be cleaned out.

Methods which have been discussed include long stout Tyraps, skinny long-handled bottle brushes and blasting water or air down the tube through a fine hose. The net result is a surprising amount of crud arriving in the sump of the machine. This is actually a good sign as it indicates that deposits are being removed.

However, on occasion, the fill matrix itself can become choked. It can be removed and to our certain knowledge people have used garden hoses, even jet washers to try and dislodge the goo, with varying degrees of success. If that fails, replace the fill chamber which is available from this link.

The only guaranteed repair at this point is to replace the matrix and ensure that crockery is rinsed of any heavy detritus before washing to ensure that there is no repetition.

Other Reasons That You Can Get This Fault

Other possibilities are faults with the pressure switches and leaks in the air pressure system, or excessive water flow rates. These however are exceptional cases and need a technical solution; engineer time.

Needless to say, any repairs or inspections should be carried out with the power OFF

If you unsure of any of the components or instructions in this article then DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF please call an experienced dishwasher engineer.

Whirlpool dishwasher fault codes and spare partsWe get asked (a lot) about failure, error or fault codes on the Whirlpool made dishwashers, most of which are integrated models, from a number of manufacturers so instead of answering the same questions over and over we're putting what we know in one document, this one.

These dishwashers are supplied under the following brand names:

  • Whirlpool
  • Bauknecht
  • Hygena
  • Diplomat
  • Firenzi
  • Prima
  • Tecnik
  • IKEA
  • Algor
  • Caple
  • CDA

There may well be some dishwashers we've forgotten about but, if you get pointed to this page it's probably one of these or, a dishwasher that uses these fault codes.

  Whirlpool Dishwasher Fault Codes

Depending on the version of the dishwasher these codes can be displayed as a series of flashing lights on the control panel of the dishwasher, a series of beeps, both or a numeric error code displayed in the controller's display if your dishwasher model has that feature. In order to read the code, either the flashing lamp or the beeps, you need to count them as there will be a series of one or the other (not often both), then a pause and then the sequence will repeat, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error. The number error code 20000 beeps or flashes gives you the fault code below, for any other codes not listed it's odd but you can ask in the forums anyway and we'll try to help you.

F1 - NTC break

Temperature out of the normal value (-3°C till +85°C)

  • Temperature inside higher than +85°C
  • NTC defective (the NTC is the most common cause of this error and can be obtained from this link)
  • Dishwasher is frozen, less than -3°C

If the temperature is less than -3°C, fill the appliance with a cup of warm water to warm it up before you start it.

F2 - Water Leakage
  • Water is in the bottom tray

Floater or float switch switches off the water valve and the electronic switches on the drain pump until pressure sensor reports that it is empty. There are numerous causes for this fault, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, but it all usually comes down to the fact that something, somewhere is leaking. To cure this you need to find the leak.

F3 - Dishwasher Heating System Defective

Indicated after approximately 25 minutes of failure to reach operating temperature.

Check the heating element first if you get this error.

F4 - Dishwasher Draining Failure

Drain pump starts and after 4 min the machine detects that it is “not empty”

  • Drain pump defective
  • Siphon closed
  • Control board defective (very rare!)
  • OWl/WI defective (Optical sensors, if fitted, but most don't have them)

The most common cause of bauknecht dishwasher f2 error is either a blocked or defective drain pump. On that front you have two choices, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, you can either go with the genuine dishwasher drain pump from this link or, you can opt for a much, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, much cheaper compatible drain pump from this link.

F6 - Water Tap Closed

water valve  is switched on but flow meter sends no impulses and the water indicator is off

  • Water inlet tap closed
  • Water inlet hose blocked
  • Water inlet valve defective (common enough issue but also check the flow meter in the side chamber, the water valve is here if required)
  • Flow meter detective

It is a very common issue with these dishwashers and the common flow meter is built into the side chamber which can be accessed by removing the right hand side panel (looking from the front of the dishwasher) and the commonly used spare partcan be found from this link

F7 - Flow Meter Failure

Water inlet valve is switched on and the water indicator is on.

F8 - Water Level Failure

Failures are supervised over the whole program. Mechanical water indicator WI Spray pump works, the WI switches more than 20 times in 2 minutes back

Optical Water Indicator

Always after the OWI - signal is missing the electrical components are turned off for 5 sec. If after the 5 sec. the OWl-Signal is still not present then it notes a failure Power policy file error. If, however, after the 5 sec the OWl-Signal is present, then the water-level is filled to 6 Ltr. and the electrical components are again turned on. After the OWl signal is missing for a second time note an F8 failure.

  • Water inlet defect? Should switch on after approximately a 1 litre intake of water
  • Filter blocked
  • Water foaming giving false reading
  • Pot has turned off and is filled with spray water
  • No stable spray pump working, main wash motor faulty
F9 - Continuous Water Inlet

Water inlet valve  is switched off, water indicator on, flow meter sends impulses  (more than 10 imp. in 10 sec.)

  • Water inlet valve mechanically not closed
  • Triac on the control board permanently switched on. (short circuit)

Reaction: interval 30 sec. drain pump on / 20 sec. drain pump off in interval

The main control boards are model specific, if you want to buy one please contact us with the model number and the 12NC number from the rating plate just inside the door of the dishwasher to ensure that you get the correct one.

Smeg dishwasher fault codes and spare partsFault or error codes used in dishwashers produced by Smeg for a wide range of brands including Hotpoint, Diplomat, Hygena, Teka and others. These dishwasher were almost always integrated models with a cupboard door on the front of them and the LEDs on the top edge of the dishwasher door although the same codes may apply to other dishwasher models.

These dishwasher fault codes will displayed as a digital code, exactly as you will see below, in an LED or LCD panel or display on the dishwasher door.

Before you start any investigation of the fault on your Smeg dishwasher please read and fully understand this article in full and pay particular attention to the safety and information notices at the bottom of this page as they contain extremely important information!

Please remember to support our site by buying dishwasher spares from our spare part store here and, if you decide that you really need an technician please support the local repairers that help make this site possible, you can search for a repairer from the link below.

  Smeg Dishwasher Fault Codes

Like other fault codes these written for dishwasher repairers and not for the general public by Smeg and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We may have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a dishwasher please refer to our basic fault finding guide from this link before you begin.

Please check that any Smeg dishwasher spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and production code or serial number. If you are unsure about the suitability of any spare part please ask to ensure that you get the correct spares for your Smeg dishwasher. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

  Smeg Dishwasher Service Notes

From an older article:

Smeg dishwashers utilise the five programme LEDs to indicate faults. A combination of the first four lamps will flash and lamp five will be lit and steady. A basic interpretation of these codes will be found in the user manual.

There are four circumstances which can cause spurious lights on the control panel.

The various culprits which can cause this error

  Smeg Dishwasher Mains Suppressor

These have a habit of blowing up, bauknecht dishwasher f2 error, but still allowing power into the machine. As a consequence, they generate electrical noise which can cause corruption of the computer board. If you are lucky, replacing the suppressor will set the PCB to rights. There are two types of suppressor – one is a plastic cylinder on a metal frame in the back corner, the other is a plastic three lead cylinder in the front left of the wiring loom, under the tub.

  Smeg Dishwasher Soap Dispenser

This device is operated by a solenoid on the inside of the door. Over time, the solenoid can deteriorate internally; it also suffers from dampness and dodgy wiring connectors. As above, replacing the dispenser bauknecht dishwasher f2 error restore order.

Smeg Dishwasher Computer Board Or Programmer

They do go wrong, simple fact. Occasionally there bauknecht dishwasher f2 error visible evidence of blown tracks and burnt connections, for instance. Often, they simply stop working.

Smeg Dishwasher Door Lock In Door Closed Position

Occasionally, the door switch can bauknecht dishwasher f2 error faulty or the door lock itself jammed in the door closed position (although the door is in fact open). This may cause spurious flashing lights and cause the programme buttons to become inoperative.

The conclusion to be drawn from the above is that there w200 error while reading security units no simple, sure-fire way of diagnosing problems on these machines. They are technically complex and replacement parts are expensive. Many repairers will carry the suppressors and dispensers as stock items, allowing testing by substitution. This is not a practical option for the home repairer guessing is an expensive way of repairing an appliance.

If you wish to carry on with the diagnosis, remember, power off for anything other than observation.
