An error was encountered while attempting an error was encountered while communicate with this device

There might be more than one reason for this error:

"An error was encountered while attempting to communicate with this device. (The service is invalid.)"

I hit this problem today after I transferred my iPad XCode project from one Mac to an error was encountered while. I was pretty sure there was nothing wrong with my USB cable, it was working just fine on the other Mac with the same iPad.

So I did the old XCode standby voodoo solution:

  1. in XCode, do a ;
  2. quit XCode;
  3. from the macOS Finder, delete the folder for the project;
  4. launch XCode, rebuild and run.

It works just fine now.

Hi Randy,

I’d like to know if the error occurs on all Word documents saved in OneDrive or even on the files that are locally saved to your iPad. When you’ve mentioned that you’re sent to Chat support, can you provide the link that you’ve used in reaching out with them?

Then, have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Word app for iPad? If not yet, you may try to do so and check the result. If there’s an issue with an application, it usually resolves by performing the suggested steps, an error was encountered while.

Please respond to this thread to let me know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform me by replying to this post.

Hi, Louie!

1. The only file I tried this on was in my ‘Offline Files’ folder in OneDrive.

2. I had no expectation that I could open a file with Word in OneDrive without an Internet connection UNLESS the file was in ‘Offline Files’.

3. I did try to open a file in a ‘normal’ folder without Internet access. I get a different Word error message. Something like ‘file can not be displayed’. This does not concern me. I understand that only file in ‘Offline Files’ should be available when offline.

4. I think you mean ‘Offline Files’ when you say ‘locally saved to your iPad’?

I only use OneDrive for file storage.

5. I’ll include a screenshot at the bottom that has the referral to ‘chat’ support.

I did try that. Painfully slow. Then I 79 service error hp printer inside the Word app that it referred me here. I’m comfortable with that.

6. I uninstalled/reinstalled Word. As well as OneDrive. As well as doing a soft reset. Those were all recommendations from OneDrive support. I asked if they had reviewed the logs (I’m assuming logs are sent with the original OneDrive report). They said no.

Thanks for helping. Here is that screenshot:

Hi, Louie!

Well, I took that Chat link.

Worked with Christina for an hour.

Turned out she was Word desktop support.

She sent me to Word mobile apps - tech support.

Waited in the Chat queue for 40 minutes.

When Ronel picked up the call he told me they were activation support for Office.

Ultimately, Ronel gave me the number to call for

Office Mobile support.

Yikes.

Hi, Louie!

1. Called this morning.

2. Went over the problem, steps taken, how I got routed to this number, etc.

3. Turned out the person I was speaking with an error was encountered while Office for Macintosh support.

4. He said the only solution they could offer was to sign out of OneDrive and sign back in.

5, an error was encountered while. Told him I had done that (and more) multiple times. No change.

6. He did open a new ticket -

7. He attempted to transfer me to OneDrive. Then discovered that is email support only.

8. He sent me a note for the e-mail support for OneDrive.

9. If I understand things correctly, an error was encountered while, when I initially reported the problem through the OneDrive app on iOS I would have been placed in contact with the OneDrive email support team. So, I believe I have just looped around to where I started.

fwiw, the number I called may really be Word Mobile apps tech support. My guess is these numbers get re-routed depending on load, an error was encountered while, etc. That being said I don’t have any control over who picks up the phone when I dial that number.

Thank you Randy for keeping us informed of what happened after reaching out with our Support team. We’ve actually got an update about the issue that you’re encountering and we’ve found out that this is a known issue in OneDrive. We are now coordinating with our Internal Support to get further updates about this.

Just to confirm, have you already tried downloading the Word files from your OneDrive account and save it to the local storage of your device? If so, does the same error occurs when opening the file?

By the way, I’ve sent you a private message as we may need to ask you additional information. Go to your Profile and click on View private message to check it.

Should you have other clarifications, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Sounds like good news.

1. I honestly don’t know how to download a file from OneDrive to local storage on my device. I’d getlasterror returns 1814 happy to try that. I’d need some guidance.

2. I will pass along a test I tried earlier today.

Went to Settings/General/iPad Storage

Found Word

Tapped on it.

Then selected ‘Delete App’.

(that option deletes the app and all the data related to the app.)

I think in my view it would delete all the documents that Word itself has cached.

Powered off/on my ipad.

Reinstalled Word.

Opened in Word all the Word files sentinel lm error 17 are in my OneDrive Offline Files folder.

Closed them as soon as they opened.

Then I turned WiFi Off.

Still had the error when trying to Open them in Word from an error was encountered while OneDrive.

However, if I went directly to Word, then opened the files there (like from the Recent

tab), the files would open just fine.

Hope that helps!

Hi @wfgerald,

Thanks for the reply. Here are my follow-ups.

screenshot). 2FA was enabled. When I opened the login security page, there was a big blue &#;DEACTIVATE&#; button for 2FA. I clicked it, but encountered an error (screenshot). Now, when I open Dashboard&#;>Wordfence&#;>Login Security&#;>Two-Factor Authentication, there is no &#;DEACTIVATE&#; button&#;2FA seems to be enabled for my user (screenshot). If I open the &#;Settings&#; tab, 2FA is enabled for admins, and I cannot untick it (screenshot). Thoughts on all ora-00600 internal error code, arguments [16500] If it does help, it sounds like there might be a conflict either with the theme or one of the plugins you’re using, could you try temporarily switching to a default theme if you’re not already using one and disabling all other plugins then reactivating them one by one to see if the issue persists?

One thing I an error was encountered while say is that on the all admin pages (including the Wordfence admin pages), there are errors in the JavaScript console (screenshot).

I would love to try these. But as mentioned, this is my live site. Bringing it down to test these is very undesirable. Unfortunately the issue does not occur on my dev site 🙁
