As with any software, various issues may crop up on Teams from time to time. While these problems might be on your end, it&#;s best to rule out any issues on Microsoft&#;s side before you delve into heavy troubleshooting.

First, check the official Microsoft Status page or the Twitter account used for the same purpose. Look out for any recent tweets pertaining to Teams. Microsoft reports technical problems on this account, so if there&#;s a recent announcement, all you can do is wait. You can also check the official Microsoft Teams Twitter account or search for the #MicrosoftTeams hashtag. If there are multiple people reporting problems with Teams, you can sit back and rest easy until Microsoft itself gets it fixed.

What to Do When Skype Isn't Working

If you can't make Skype work, there are a number of troubleshooting steps you can follow to see what the problem is and to get things up and running again.

Maybe there's a microphone problem or an issue with your audio settings, and you can't hear the other person, or they can't hear you. Or maybe you can't log in to Skype because you've forgotten your password. Step 1: Reset Your Password

Reset your password if you can't log in to Skype. Visit Microsoft's Recover Your Account page to walk through resetting your Skype password.

If either website shows a problem, it most likely means that you're not the only one that can't use Skype. Just wait an hour or so and try again.

Step 3: Check Your Network Connection

Make sure it's not a network problem. Skype won't work if you don't have a network connection. This is true if you're using it from any device, be it on the web, your phone, computer, etc.

If you can't open the websites from Step 1 or nothing else works, then your whole network is probably not working. Try restarting your router or following our troubleshooting steps for Wi-Fi issues.

If other websites are working normally, the reason Skype can't make calls or why it's experiencing dropped calls could be related to bandwidth usage. If there are multiple other people on your network that are using the internet at the same time, pause or stop the activity on those devices and then see if Skype starts working again.

Step 4: Check Skype's Audio Settings and Permissions

If you can't hear the other caller(s), double-check that other sources of audio, like a YouTube video, works as you'd expect. Just open any video there to see if you can hear it.

If there's a playback error in Skype specifically (and not on YouTube, etc.) and you can't hear the other person you're talking with, or they can't hear you, you need to check that the program has access to your speakers and microphone.

Using Skype on a Computer

If you're using Skype on a computer, open it and tap the Alt key so that you can see the main menu. Then, go to Tools > Audio & Video Settings.

  • With that setting open, notice the volume area under Microphone. As you talk, you should see the bar light up.
  • If the microphone doesn't work with Skype, select the menu next to Microphone and see if there are any other options; you might have the wrong device selected.
  • If there aren't other ones to pick from, make sure the microphone is plugged in, powered on (if it has a power switch), and has batteries (if wireless). Finally, unplug the microphone and then reattach it.
  • To check the sound in Skype to make sure that it's using the right speakers, select Test audio under the Speakers option. You should hear sound in your headset or speakers.
  • If you don't hear anything when you play the sample sound, make sure your speakers or headphones are turned all the way up (some headphones have physical volume buttons) and that the on-screen settings are at 10.
  • If the volume is fine, double-check the menu next to Speakers and see if there's another option to pick from, and then try the sample sound again.

Using Skype for Mobile Devices

If you're using Skype on a tablet or phone, then your speakers and microphone are built-in to your device and can't be manually adjusted. However, there are still proper permissions that Skype requires in order to use your microphone, and if it doesn't have them, it won't let anyone hear what you say through it.

Do this if you're using an iPhone or iPad:

  • Go into the Settings app.
  • Scroll all the way down to Skype, and tap it.
  • Make sure the Microphone option is toggled on (the bubble is green) so that Skype can access your device's mic. Just tap the button to the right if it's not already green.

  • Open Settings and then Apps.

Try tapping the small camera toggle button during the call to swap between the front-facing and back-facing camera. If you're not on a call right now, you can use the Camera option to test the video from your device.

Step 6: Make a Test Call in Skype

Now that you've made sure that the hardware is turned on and enabled in Skype, it's time to make a test audio call.

The test call will verify that you can hear through the speakers as well as speak through the microphone. You'll hear the test service speak to you and then be given an opportunity to record a message that can be played back to you.

If you can't hear the voice during the sound test, or your recording doesn't get played back to you and you're told that there's a problem with the audio recording device, repeat the steps above to make sure the hardware is working properly and set up correctly. 

Otherwise, continue with Step 7 below for some other options.

You can also use the Echo/Sound Test Service contact to make a test video call, but all this really does is shows you your own video during the audio call. This is another way to test Skype video calls.

Step 7: Reinstall Skype

If after trying the above troubleshooting steps, you still can't make Skype work, and it's definitely not a problem with the Skype service (Step 2), try removing the app or program and then reinstalling it.

When you remove Skype and then install the latest version, you're basically resetting the program and all of its connections with your camera and microphone, which should resolve any issues. However, you might then have to follow the steps outlined above once more to make sure the new connections are set up properly.

You should definitely update to the latest version of Skype if you can use it through the web version normally but not the desktop version. If the webcam and mic work through your web browser just fine, then there's a problem with the offline version that needs to be taken care of through a reinstall.

Step 8: Update Device Drivers

If Skype still doesn't let you make calls or receive video, and you're using Skype on Windows, you should consider checking the device driver for the webcam and sound card.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow the steps given below:

Verify Antivirus/Firewall block

Go to the image repository machine. Check and ensure that the firewall/ antivirus is not blocking access to the share path and proceed with image creation/deployment.

Ensure that the network share drive is in NTFS File system instead of FAT32

Based on the OS image the file size can go beyond 4GB. Hence ensure that it is formatted with NTFS file system. If the format is in FAT32 file system, large files of more than 4 GB size cannot be saved as a single file.

Resolve network connection

  1. If the network connection has recovered from the error automatically, retry image creation. Deployment will get retried automatically on the target computer. 
  2. If the network connection hasn't recovered for while, check the connection & "Retry" image creation/ deployment. If it still doesn't work, create a new image and proceed with deployment.

  • Port or ports are blocked.

I thought that I had replied with the information asked for My Fault

All Drivers have been verified as most recent on the machine. We do not block any of these necessary ports on our firewalls. This is the only user affected in the company. We have tested on multiple other machines on our network, and all work as they should. We have tested different user profiles/Office accounts on the machine and get the same issue.

Thanks for the reply. However, based on description issue is most likely to lie with specific client side. 

May I double confirm have you tried to check this affected user issue via using different PC (e.g. non-problematic user’s PC) to see whether he can share desktop?

If the user have any antivirus software installed, please temporally disable it to check this issue.

You may try to troubleshoot this issue, by performing a clean boot in Windows. (This will helps eliminate whether the issue is caused by software conflicts.)

Moreover, if he can share desktop via using different PC then please create a new Windows user account profile and performing a clean install the latest Skype for Business application program to see whether the problem still occurs.

Thanks for following up. We have logged in to another computer with this user's account and there are no issues. He is able to share his desktop on the different computer. We have logged into his machine with a different user account (new windows profile) and the issue persists with the new user account on the machine. The AV program that is installed on his machine is installed on all + machines on our network, none of which have the same issue.

5 Ways to Fix the "An Unexpected Network Error Occurred" Issue on Windows

Network errors are nothing new for veteran Windows users and can be caused by a number of reasons. One specific issue that pops up when the users attempt to transfer large files from another device or server is the 'An Unexpected Network Error Occurred' error message. This is typically caused by an over-protective antivirus program, corrupt Windows Search service, and inconsistencies within the system.

While the error message states that there is an issue with the network, simply checking your Wi-Fi connection will not do the trick. Let's see how to resolve this problem with the utilities already present in your Windows operating system.

1. Disable You Antivirus and Windows Defender

If you cannot transfer large files from your network driver to PC to laptop, then the first thing that you should do is temporarily disable the security programs you are using on your system. This is because while the security programs protect your system from threats, there are times when they falsely classify the legitimate processes as harmful, interrupting their functioning.

In this method, we will be disabling third-party antivirus and Windows Defender Firewall.

1. How to Disable a Third-Party Antivirus Program

If you are using a third-party antivirus program, you can typically disable it by right-clicking on its icon in the taskbar and choosing Disable option from the context menu.

If this does not work for you, then try launching the program and look for the Disable antivirus temporarily option. The exact steps will be different for each program, but the basic principle behind the disabling feature remains the same.

2. How to Disable the Windows Defender Firewall

The Windows Defender Firewall also has a history of blocking secure processes as a result of false alarms. To disable it, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Type Windows Defender Firewall in Windows search and click Open. Alternatively, you can also navigate to Firewall manually by heading over to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Choose Turn Windows Firewall on or off from the left pane.
  3. Checkmark the Turn off Windows Firewall options under both Public and Private network settings.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes and restart your PC.

2. Verify the Hard Disk's Format

Generally, Windows operating systems use two types of file systems: File Allocation Table (FAT) and New Technology File System (NTFS). These file systems play a crucial role in managing the system drives and the information stored in them.

If you are facing the error code 0xB on your system, we recommend you check the formatting of the destination drive where you plan on transferring the files. If the drive supports the FAT32 format, then you cannot transfer single files which are more than 4 GB in size. Any attempt of doing so is likely to result in a crash.

Here is how you can check the destination drive’s format:

  1. Launch File Explorer and head over to This PC.
  2. Right-click on the targeted drive and choose Properties from the context menu.
  3. In the following dialog, navigate to the General tab and check the format against File System.

3. Disable the Windows Search Service

This method might sound irrelevant, but there were instances where the users were able to fix the problem by simply disabling the Windows Search service. As per our research, this service’s process sometimes overlaps with the transferring process, resulting in a crash.

The solution, in this case, is simple, as all that you need to do is temporarily disable the Windows Search service. Once you are able to transfer files over the network successfully, you can switch it back on.

Follow these steps to proceed:

  1. Open the Run window by pressing Win + R.
  2. Type sprers.eu in the text field and click OK.
  3. In the Services window, right-click on Windows Search and choose Properties.
  4. Expand the dropdown menu for Startup type and choose Disabled.
  5. Click Apply > OK to save the changes.

You can now transfer the required files again and see if disabling the Windows Search service made a difference.

4. Modify Windows Registry

Another fix that worked for users was renaming a specific key in the Registry Editor. This fix has proven to be effective for both Windows 8 and Windows 10 users, and thus we recommend you give it a shot if you are comfortable using Windows Registry.

If you are going to proceed with this method, it is important that you create a Registry backup. Doing so will help you revert to the current working state of the Registry in case anything goes wrong. While you are at it, you can also enable automatic Registry backups to save time when a scenario like this pops up again in the future.

Once you have created a backup, follow these steps:

  1. Press Win + R together to open Run.
  2. Type regedit in the text field and hit Enter.
  3. Inside the Registry Editor, navigate to the location mentioned below:
  4. Right-click on Microsoft-Windows-DXP/Analytic and choose Rename from the context menu.
  5. Rename this key as Microsoft-Windows-DXP/Analytics.
  6. Exit the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

Upon reboot, check if you can now transfer the files without any problem.

5. Perform a System Restore

Windows creates restore points of your system occasionally (typically before performing critical operations), which are basically snapshots of the working states of your system. These restore points come in handy when you are facing an issue within the system and want to revert to a previous point in time when the system was working perfectly fine.

You can try to restore your system to a previous working state if you have come this far without finding a solution. However, it is important to keep in mind that restoring the system to a previous point will make you lose all the changes that you made after the restore point was created. This can include changing system settings, installing new applications, etc.

Network errors can be frustrating, as the error codes do not give much information about what might be causing the issue. Hopefully, the methods mentioned above will help you get rid of the error for good. To stay away from such issues in the future, we highly recommend keeping your network drivers up-to-date at all times.

Resolution

Resolve network connection

  2. If the network connection hasn't recovered for while, check the connection & "Retry" image creation/ deployment. If it still doesn't work, create a new image and proceed with deployment.

I thought that I had replied with the information asked for My Fault

All Drivers have been verified as most recent on the machine. We do not block any of these necessary ports on our firewalls. This is the only user affected in the company. We have tested on multiple other machines on our network, and all work as they should. We have tested different user profiles/Office accounts on the machine and get the same issue.

Thanks for the reply. However, based on description issue is most likely to lie with specific client side. 

May I double confirm have you tried to check this affected user issue via using different PC (e.g. non-problematic a network error occurred skype PC) to see whether he can share desktop?

If the user have any antivirus software installed, please temporally disable it a network error occurred skype check this issue.

You may try to troubleshoot this issue, by performing a clean boot in Windows. (This will helps eliminate whether the issue is caused by software conflicts.)

Moreover, if he can share desktop via using different PC then please create a new Windows user account profile and performing a clean install the latest Skype for Business application program to see whether the problem still occurs.

Thanks for following up. We have logged in to another computer with this user's account and there are no issues. He is able to share his desktop on the different computer. We have logged into his machine with a different user account (new windows profile) and the issue persists with the new user account on the machine. The AV program that is installed on his machine is installed on all + machines on our network, none of which have the same issue.

What to Do When Skype Isn't Working

If you can't make Skype work, there bat echo errorlevel a number of troubleshooting steps you can follow to see what the problem is and to get things up and running again.

Causes of Skype Not Working

Maybe there's a microphone problem or an issue with your audio settings, and you can't hear the other person, or they can't hear you. Still, another reason could be that your external speakers or microphone are no longer working, and you need to get new hardware. Maybe Skype won't connect.

If you're having issues making HD video calls with Skype, there are a number of other factors that go into troubleshooting the reason.

Step 1: Reset Your Password

Reset your password if you can't log in to Skype. Visit Microsoft's Recover Your Account page to walk through resetting your Skype password.

Enter the email address you used when you first signed up, and then follow the directions there to learn how to get a new password and log back in to start making video and audio calls again.

If you need a new Skype account, you can make one through the Create account page.

Step 2: Check to See if It's Skype's Problem

See if others are having troubles with Skype, too. There isn't much you can do to fix it if it's not your problem to fix. Sometimes things go wrong on Skype's end and the only thing you can do is wait it out.

The best way to check if Skype is down or if it's experiencing some issues with its messaging service is to check Skype Status. If there's a problem with the service, it's going to be affecting all platforms, be it on the web, a network error occurred skype, your mobile device, your laptop, Xbox, etc.

You should definitely update to the latest version of Skype if you can use it through the web version normally but not the desktop version.
