    How to Fix Cisco VPN Client Error 51 – Unable to Communicate with the VPN Subsystem

    Apple Mac OS X users are frequently faced with the Cisco VPN Client Error 51 - Unable to Communicate with the VPN Subsystem as shown in the screenshot below:

    cisco-vpn-mac-error-51-1

    When this error is produced, users will no longer be able to connect to their VPN using the Cisco VPN client. It seems like Cisco’s VPN client often produces the error when network adaptors disappear and reappear – a common scenario when removing the Ethernet cable or reconnecting to your wireless network.

    The solution provided will force the Cisco VPN to re-initialize and continue working without a problem.

    To overcome the error, close the VPN Client, open a Terminal Window, (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) and type one of the following commands:

    For older OS versions:

    $ sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart
    For newer OS versions:
    $ sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext

    The above command(s) requires administrator rights, so the system might ask for the administrator password as shown below:

    cisco-vpn-mac-error-51-2

    Another command that can be used to re-initialize the Cisco VPN subsystem is the following:

    $ sudo SystemStarter restart CiscoVPN

    Again, the administrator password might be required.

    Should the Error 51 problem occur again, simply apply the same command that worked for you previously and you’ll be ready to connect to your VPN. It might also be a good idea to create a small script with the above commends so it can be executed every time the error occurs.

    49 4c18 error hp Looks like no one has spoken to him in a long time. To start a conversation, 51 error vpn, just ask a big new question.

    One of the most-used programs on my Mac is the Cisco VPN Client, which is what I use to connect to Macworld’s VPN when posting articles such as this 51 error vpn. (OS X’s built-in VPN client also works, but it also logs me out of and then back into iChat every time I connect or disconnect from the VPN. The Cisco VPN Client doesn’t have this annoying problem, so Daily terror - der countdown lauft use it instead.)

    While the Cisco VPN Client works well most of the time, sometimes when I try to launch the application, I’m greeted with this error message in place of the usual connection dialog:

    Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem. Please make sure that you have at least one network interface that is currently active and has an IP address and start this application again.

    The error is clearly incorrect, because my machine’s networking capabilities are otherwise fine—I can browse the net, send and receive e-mail, and connect to other machines in the house. I don’t get the error message all the time, and I don’t really know what causes it. It does seem to happen more often if I’ve slept and woke the machine, or moved it from one defined location internal error false samsung printer 4200 another, but even then, it’s not predictable, 51 error vpn. All I know for sure is that it’s annoying, because (until recently) the only fix I munin freebsd error code 1 aware of was to reboot the machine.

    One day, after probably the second or third time I’d restarted my machine, I decided there must be a better solution, so I went digging to see if anyone else had already found one—and they had. As detailed on the linked site, the solution is a relatively simple command that you execute in Terminal (found in Applications -> Utilities). After discussing the Terminal command with a friend, he came up with an even simpler version that works just as well:

    You’ll need to be an administrative user to run this command, 51 error vpn, and provide your admin password when asked. You won’t see any output from the command; the Terminal prompt will return when it’s done. After using the above command, the Cisco VPN Client should run without any problems—at least until motorola sig error next time the problem occurs.

    10 Common VPN Errors on Windows and How to Solve Them

    Virtual private networks (VPNs) are a great way to give yourself a significant edge in the battle against cyber-criminals as well as countries that wish to restrict what sites you can view.

    But while the concept of the VPN is a great one, they are not foolproof solutions. Even VPNs have obstacles and barriers that must be overcome in order to have them work correctly. Here are 10 script host error VPN errors and how to solve them to keep your connection running smoothly and securely.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error connecting to VPN test
    Description:The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server.

    Solution: Ostensibly one of the easiest errors to solve, it can develop from several different mistakes. The most obvious is a mistype by the user on the namer or the password, including leaving the caps lock on. The problem can be tougher to diagnose if you are using the incorrect domain or if you are attempting to use a public VPN for which your access has been revoked. In any case, 51 error vpn, make sure that what you are typing in 51 error vpn up with the correct protocol.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error 800
    Description:The VPN client cannot reach the server.

    Solution: This error code pops up when the client device has lost its connection to a local network; a network firewall is blocking VPN traffic; or the user has 51 error vpn an incorrect name/address for the VPN server. Make sure you have the VPN server information correct. If all is well, make sure your firewall isn’t configured to block VPN connections. A firewall upgrade to specify which port numbers your 51 error vpn users might be necessary.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error 619
    Description:A connection to the remote computer could not be established.

    Solution: This VPN error code occurs when a VPN session is suddenly disconnected or when the computer attempts to establish a new connection. The quickest resolution is to make sure only one VPN client is running at a time on the computer. If that doesn’t fix this common VPN error, try disabling your firewalls or antivirus programs temporarily to see if they are blocking it. This is an intermittent error code that can also be fixed by rebooting or reinstalling the client.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error 51
    Description:Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem.

    Solution: There are no tweaks or tricks for fixing this VPN error other than restarting the VPN service or running a troubleshoot diagnostic of your local network connection.

    Screenshot Microsoft Windows error 412
    Description: The remote peer is no longer responding.

    Solution: This can be a troublesome error because it will expose your network to outside viewers if you don’t have a VPN with a kill switch. This is almost always a network failure at your end, but if the network connection is strong, the problem is likely a firewall interfering. Do a quick reconnect with the firewall down. If it fixes the problem, disconnect and take a look at your firewall settings to find the glitch.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error 721
    Description:The remote computer did not respond.

    Solution: This error often occurs when your remote PPP peer is not responding. The two most common solutions for this VPN error are to check your router settings to make sure that TCP 51 error vpn 1723 and IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are both open. Also make sure that the PPTP is enabled on your router and that your firewall is not set up to block traffic.

    Screenshot of Microsoft Windows error 720
    Description:No PPP control protocols configured

    Solution: This VPN error occurs when there is no appropriate protocol to communicate with the server. The solution is a bit technical and involves figuring out which VPNs clearcommerror builder c++ server can support and installing one that fits the bill.

    Solution: This error screen is often found when you have the same VPN service on more than one Internet-capable device. While some VPN vendors allow for as many as ten simultaneous connections, putting multiple devices on the same server may generate this error. You can avoid this by either connecting the devices to different servers, or if you need to be connected to a specific server, changing the protocols so each device connects that server using a different protocol.

    Solution: This is one of the most vexing errors to see because viewing geo-blocked websites is one of the main reasons to use a VPN. Clearing your Internet cache is a good first step, and restarting the VPN client your device isn’t a bad thought either. The hidden culprit is often your DNS settings. Many VPNs will connect you on their own DNS servers, but if they don’t, you will have to do it yourself to keep from using the DNS of the country you’re connecting from.

    Solution: This is part of the trade-off of using VPN, 51 error vpn, things tend to slow down. The best solution is to try and use a server that is physically close to your location to reduce latency.

    If you aren’t 51 error vpn to solve these errors by yourself, there is no shame in contacting the customer support team of your VPN provider and having tech support walk you through the solutions.
